That's kind of disturbing that the wrong one was sent. Many people wouldn't know the difference. Hopefully Gotway has labeling on the box that indicates it's the high-speed version. When he gets the new wheel, let me (us) know if the box labeling says anything. A high-torque wheel requires a different motor configuration (magnets) that get in the way of high-speed. You can't have it all :-) Those are Nikola pedals, not ACM pedals. And if you buy the wheel from any company other than EWheels, it ships with the standard MSuper pedal (with the rubber inserts). EWheels has Gotway put the Nikola pedals on the wheels that Jason sells. So Gotway would never change the shell just to accommodate EWheels.
Yeah, tricky to know which model you really got I think, which is one of the reasons I think GotWay should make less modesl, but more polished ones. Good to know about the pedals. I guess the pedal magnet thing will just be feedback for Jason then :) Nice seeing you Marty.
I completely agree: Gotway needs to streamline their menu. Having a huge selection is great but it can get too confusing and overwhelming for simple minded people like me.
Hah, we're all simple minded people, no smart person would do what we do on EVs 😁 But yeah, hoping they have less wheels, that are more polished in the future.
Nice! So excited for my torque edition MSP! Here in Portland I think the torque model is more useful. I did lose sleep over which version to get though.
How to "deliver torque and speed in a single package" increase the voltage. They're not there yet. Also regarding your pedals not properly fitting on the shell; that's an eWheels custom addition, the actual factory units come with the original Msuper pedals.
Gotcha, I wasn't sure about the ewheels custom addition there, but hopefully that's good feedback for them. My hunch is that they order them that way customized from GotWay, instead of doing the swaps themselves? Definitely would love to see increased voltage and watts to the motors for torque and speed.
Alien Rides Issue is the motors can be wound for high kv (higher top speed less torque) or low kv (lower top speed, more torque) both with their own set of pros and cons. At the 100V level there isn’t much more you can do on either side so it’ll come down to higher voltage to deliver both at speeds above 50 mph. Pedals not being a little loose folded up isn’t much of a problem but the foot space and full grip tape is more secure while riding, so it’s a fair trade off.
themystx2 yeah that makes sense. I also think about how a Rion runs around 96 volts but can reach 100mph. The motors are smaller, and I think they draw a lot more amps out of the battery.
Alien Rides scooters have amp limits on the controller side, gotways dont; they simply cutout when they can’t deliver the current requested. Notice some of the compromises on the Rion; there are holes in the motor cover for airflow to prevent those things from instantly burning. They basically use a Lacroix controller to deliver those 400A.
That’s actually a pretty good idea, I think it is very similar to ice/snow spots. It feels very similar to skiing for me actually as far as leg stance and carving goes.
Great video. I just got my torque edition back from eWheels after it caught fire in my garage. Flames aside, once I got used to the angle of the pedals (other wheels are 18XL and V10) I’ve found the Gotway to be the easiest to turn on a dime.
