Do you use rEFIt for the boot loader / menu? I thought it was necessary. I have a 27 inch mid 2011 iMac by the way. I've already installed Windows 7 with the Bootcamp Assistant. Mountain Lion is the main OS.
got a question.... um after you make the partition.... you put the disk in first then restart rite?... and when u boot up into the partition, the disk is immdiately read, and Ubuntu will allow you to put it side by side automatically?
Hi, cool video, but I have two questions, after I've done the partition and installed UBUNTU can I remove it completely? and I have UBUNTU such an .iso file, can I install it too? Thanks
Hi, Installation can you do it in easy way, but the problem is, after using ubuntu for a while you getting noisy Graphic screen, and that's from Apple to force you back! dsn't matter which Graphicdriver is preinstalled, mac do the same for BOOTCAMP/Windows 7,xp ..etc. Regards
and what about trackpad and keyboard functions? does they work? i know you have an imac and you probably dont use trackpad, but for me would be nice to know if at least 2 finger scrolling and 2 finger right click works fine. sorry if im not using the correct words, english is not my primary language xD
@OmRiWoLF Thanks for that. I can't seem to get Bootcamp to set up though. When I start the assistant it asks me to either download extra software or load my OSX startup disk but then tells me "The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.". My Macbook Pro has a single disk with two Mac partitions and nothing else. Do you know how I get it to allow me to adjust/create the partition for linux?
@garmit61 You can create another partition manually too... insert your Mac OS X disc, restart your computer, while in the white screen press option and choose the disc. then open disk utility and create another partition...
I think it'll work but i'm not too sure, bootcamp only let's you make two partitions, but you can make more using Disk Utility (built-in app). And how about minecraft download for a come-back for me?
@DJExelBee Sorry I don't know :/ Did you back up your Mac before that happend? And if your warranty is still on you can visit the Apple store and ask there...
@garmit61 I don't. after I create the partition with Boot Camp I just quit Boot Camp (cmd+q), restart the computer and hold option (alt) and the boot loader will open...
@exeonarch I assume because mac hardware is more likely to work with a linux distro then lets say acer hardware. If I had a mac I run linux or freebsd on it because it would be cool.
ok so i tried to install ubuntu on my partition, but when i choose "install alongside mac" and i slide it all the way to to the right, it crashes on install because there wasn't enough memory. Have you used 12.04? Do i have to slide it to the left?
Yes Please!! it seems that the new ubuntu 12.04 has a little different way to install on mac. Can you please make a detail but short step by step install from CD to a mac, having both OS's? Thanks!!
hey, i tried following your steps here but an error came up saying : Could not modify partition map because system verification failed. what do u think im doing wrong? great video btw
oye que bobo. haha i loved the music at the begining hahah nice..and i love ubuntu, kubuntu, and mac os x...byt the way cool video man..haha i loved the part when u did like..forget about bootcamp hehe awasome.
Thanks dude. but, what is the format of the bootcamp partition anyway? OS Extended (Journaled)? Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)? or what? thanks
@FreddyFreeds Go into the manual partitioning options, select the windows partition and click modify, check the format box for the WINDOWS partition and set the mounting point to / and that's all there is to it. it WILL complain about there being no swap space but just don't care...
@Martinezjoelbachmann Sure, you need to insert your Mac OS X Installation Disk, restart, press option (alt) during the white screen when you start your computer, and then press on the disk. Then use disk utility to delete the linux partitation. maybe i'll do a tutrial of how to do this.
I did everything in this video but damn when I restart my computer I can't choose the usual "Macintosh HD". All I see is the "Windows" where is located Ubuntu. so... I think I lost all my files... oh and I don't have my version of snow Leopard with me and I don't know how to recover my files under Ubuntu. I think I'm screwed...Anyone know what to do?
@danielmbcutler Its the version that was released in september 2010... i'm sure Ubuntu was updated few times since then. so yes, maybe the installation is different. type in youtube "How to install linux"... and use my video to create the partition to install Linux on.
Video is good one but my mouse n keyboard are not working while installing but if I start with mac its working..? Why it is not working while installing ubuntu..?welcome screen appears and I cant type or select any option by using mouse neither by keyboard..? Plz give me the solution
+sourabh vibhute Unplug your mac then lay it on the nearest roadway then find the nearest fuel-can then pour the fuel onto the mac then go and search for method of ignition preferably a cigarette lighter then light the lighter move it close to the mac until it ignites(or you get burnt) then stand approximately 10-20 meters(safety first) away from where the mac is placed. THEN WATCH IT BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!
would like to say that you CAN do this on lion. everything works for me and my 2011 white macbook. to do it i went into disk utility and created a partition which was "free space" and then i booted from the linux cd (hold "option" while rebooting at the blue screen and select windows) and chose the option "install side by side with os x" or something along those lines. :D
Yes it is posible just don't partition the hardrive and when you are in the process of installing ubuntu or any other linux distro choose the option of entire hard drive. I hope that help and have fun.
i have a huge problem. i have already partition my hard drive, install ubuntu but after restarting the install, ubuntu disappear. i keep re-installing ubuntu but when i boot up my macbook, theres no ubuntu
not such a great idea now since 10.7 and 10.8 are distributed via the app store. you'd better have a Snow Leopard disk handy in case you change your mind
This video is supposed to be helpful but the camera quality completely defearts rhe purpose. After a while it gets to be super ennoying. You are doing a good job buddy but need to work a little bit more on your production quality. :-)
Thanks Alot ive been searching how to do this for 3 days! THANK YOU YOU ARE THE COMPUTER GODS
Do you use rEFIt for the boot loader / menu? I thought it was necessary. I have a 27 inch mid 2011 iMac by the way. I've already installed Windows 7 with the Bootcamp Assistant. Mountain Lion is the main OS.
Thank you for making this easy to fallow video guide way better then reading instructions lol I'm lazy this video was sweet thanks for the help !
got a question.... um after you make the partition.... you put the disk in first then restart rite?... and when u boot up into the partition, the disk is immdiately read, and Ubuntu will allow you to put it side by side automatically?
if only all tutorials came this way ) thanks!
Thanks! I had some problems in the burning but it worked at the end.
What version do you have in mind? any version is quite a lot of different computers
Love the music, and great video.
Love it !! What is the name of the second song ? awesome !!
Hi, cool video, but I have two questions, after I've done the partition and installed UBUNTU can I remove it completely? and I have UBUNTU such an .iso file, can I install it too?
Thanks
Hi there, I didn't spot where you decided to put the Boot Loader. Where do you put it so it doesn't interfere with bootCamp?
@OutlawLovesNewVegas Yes. Boot Camp does not affect the OSX partition (except its size).
Thanks, very helpful tutorial. I will be installing Pear OS 8 on my Polycarbonate iMac from 2006.
u have one too!? That's awesome, i do too
do you have to boot from the disk or can you do it on external hd or mem stick ???
Hi,
Installation can you do it in easy way, but the problem is, after using ubuntu for a while you getting noisy Graphic screen, and that's from Apple to force you back!
dsn't matter which Graphicdriver is preinstalled, mac do the same for BOOTCAMP/Windows 7,xp ..etc.

I ahve a 2010 macbook pro, should I install the 32 bit or 64 bit version?
Is it possible to use the whole hard disk for the Ubuntu installation, completely wiping OSX? Thanks in advance!
@garmit61 You can create another partition manually too... insert your Mac OS X disc, restart your computer, while in the white screen press option and choose the disc. then open disk utility and create another partition...

this is so cool, by the way why is the disk drive displayed as "Windows" Instead of "Linux"?
@DJExelBee Sorry I don't know :/
Did you back up your Mac before that happend?

@garmit61 I don't. after I create the partition with Boot Camp I just quit Boot Camp (cmd+q), restart the computer and hold option (alt) and the boot loader will open...
could you partition the disk in disk utility? and how would you do that?
@whiffing1 depends of the version. check system requirements to know how much.
@exeonarch I assume because mac hardware is more likely to work with a linux distro then lets say acer hardware. If I had a mac I run linux or freebsd on it because it would be cool.

what is the minimum amount of space needed for linux when partitioning the disk?
what is your video editor please answer me
Yes Please!! it seems that the new ubuntu 12.04 has a little different way to install on mac. Can you please make a detail but short step by step install from CD to a mac, having both OS's? Thanks!!

Hey how do you do this for ubuntu 10.10? because they completely changed the layout of the install window
Why did you choose "Windows" for type of partition instead of Mac to install on a Mac?
do you know how to install ubuntu 10.10 like this? because they have a completely different install interface.
Would this be too much for a macbook air?
i have a blank 700mb disc but my ubuntu download is 750mb is there anyway i can make the file smaller or anything?
macbook air doesnt have a cd drive. is usb good?
Thanks dude. but, what is the format of the bootcamp partition anyway? OS Extended (Journaled)? Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)? or what? thanks
It is FAT32, I think, because in Windows installer it named BOOTCAMP. If it was Mac OS Extended (Journaled), it was not named by name in Windows
does this work with any version of Mac OS or any version of Ubuntu
does the airport wifi work?? for packet injection :P
Will this make me able to run games trough Wine?
@Stuff4YourMac Yes. More complicated than CD burning but easily done with terminal commands. Go on the ubuntu website to find out how
I tried and the boot camp assistant says that I can't divide the disc because there are some documents that can't be removed. What should I do?
Whats the song? Its pretty awesome!
Thumbs up to find out!
@romshua actually its like 4 songs... the first one is a Remix of Bowl Beat, yea.
@ZetaSimsoy You can make like 16 partitions using Disk Utility.
when i try to open the ubuntu file, it says it cant open because there is "no mountable file systems." Can you tell me what this means?
Does this work with Fedora 16 as well?
@FreddyFreeds Go into the manual partitioning options, select the windows partition and click modify, check the format box for the WINDOWS partition and set the mounting point to / and that's all there is to it.
it WILL complain about there being no swap space but just don't care...
Hi.....is it possible for Mountain Lion?
And how about uninstalling ubuntu
How did you get the drivers for Ubuntu??
Whenever I try this instead of giving me a start up screen ubuntu loads then goes straight to a command line screen. What can I do?
@boogiebuddy01 sure, you can. i don't think that its makes the computer slow, you should try
about how long does the partion
take
@Martinezjoelbachmann Sure, you need to insert your Mac OS X Installation Disk, restart, press option (alt) during the white screen when you start your computer, and then press on the disk.
Then use disk utility to delete the linux partitation.
maybe i'll do a tutrial of how to do this.
What button i should use to boot the cd , please help ;)
off course it does just that the method is different go to disk utilities and do the partition there and the rest is the same
when i partition my drive, i can't boot into the windows partition by holding option. it just doesn't show up
will this remove the windows partition i have?
I did everything in this video but damn when I restart my computer I can't choose the usual "Macintosh HD". All I see is the "Windows" where is located Ubuntu. so... I think I lost all my files... oh and I don't have my version of snow Leopard with me and I don't know how to recover my files under Ubuntu. I think I'm screwed...Anyone know what to do?
@wdrpsp19 There is no Mac optimized Ubuntu version (as far as I know). Just use the normal version, you can download it from their site.
@Martinezjoelbachmann Every time you want to switch between Mac and Linux OSes.
And if I want Windows too (Triple Boot)? Another Boot Camp partition?
PS: Nice vid
@DrHookManagerMan No, Ubuntu is a very light operating system. You can also try the Notebook Ubuntu version
how do i replace os x 100% an have only ubuntu i just got a 5 year old mac book and dont want to buy a os x cd but i need to wipe the hard drive
i have a problem here the boot camp assistant says that i don't have enough space "10 gb" on my hard disk
but i have 50 gb free space !!!
When i do the thing in boot camp it doesnt allow me to it says i need to do some other things
when i want to create a partition my bootcamp doesn't allow and say "insert your windows installer disc" !!
use a larger disc , a DVD would do cz ubuntu must be 723 something MBs and its larger than the CD's quota. so yea a DVD would do the job
Thanks! So helpful!
@thieson08 try with usb flash drive.
@remolanoa I don't own Lion so I don't know, but i'm pretty sure it should work.
would this work on a 2005 powermac g5
Maybe if it has bootcamp
@FAKEBC I don't remember that i had problem with it... the keyboard defiantly worked but i don't remember if i switched to normal mouse or not...
@danielmbcutler Its the version that was released in september 2010... i'm sure Ubuntu was updated few times since then. so yes, maybe the installation is different.
type in youtube "How to install linux"... and use my video to create the partition to install Linux on.
Can i also install arch linux ?
does this work on all macs?
Video is good one but my mouse n keyboard are not working while installing but if I start with mac its working..?
Why it is not working while installing ubuntu..?welcome screen appears and I cant type or select any option by using mouse neither by keyboard..?

Jason Gill if you can't yhen just shut ur **** mouth...!
Can't do the partinioning
"An error occurred while downloading Windows support software."
@WakkoXtreme i don't know because i don't own Apple Airport, but if Magic Mouse worked perfectly i guess Airport should too.
@exeonarch Maybe you want to use it for Android Development
This really helped!
@bullettotheboard No, you can install all Linux versions.
(sorry im late commenting on this, I was on vacation)
@exeonarch Because Ubuntu is much more customizable if you know how to use it. I use Mac OS X, Fedora, and Windows 7. I prefer Fedora over Mac OS X.
Thanks, very helpful :)
thanks bro that worked great.
would like to say that you CAN do this on lion. everything works for me and my 2011 white macbook. to do it i went into disk utility and created a partition which was "free space" and then i booted from the linux cd (hold "option" while rebooting at the blue screen and select windows) and chose the option "install side by side with os x" or something along those lines.

Yes it is posible just don't partition the hardrive and when you are in the process of installing ubuntu or any other linux distro choose the option of entire hard drive. I hope that help and have fun.
can i do it without windows cd?
Hold alt(or option whatever you want to call it) on white startup screen and select Macintosh HD
@OmRiWoLF y would u make this if u didnt use lunix
i have a huge problem. i have already partition my hard drive, install ubuntu but after restarting the install, ubuntu disappear. i keep re-installing ubuntu but when i boot up my macbook, theres no ubuntu
