If I was an American I would feel such a strong sense of patriotism every time I heard Elvis sing that. I am Australian, but it still brings a lump to my throat to listen to it. I don't think any other singer has ever sung it, have they? You wouldn't be game to, because you could never match Elvis' standard.

Many fans only look at the production and suits with Elvis. He was so intelligent in picking musicians and singers. He felt the band and music and had such a powerful voice. Raw talent is rare. Hard to believe 5 years later he was gone. Grateful to see him live 2 months before he passed. He was not well but his voice was golden. Peace to you John from the USA.

There will never be another Elvis.... My most favorite version of American trilogy is the one from his aloha from Hawaii concert.
There are no words to describe Elvis. Words like amazing, incredible and wonderful still fall short. The Lord was showing off when He made Elvis, and He just wanted that beautiful man to be with Him in Heaven!!👍❤️👍
There simply are no words to explain Elvis! He was/is the Best of all worlds. I truly Thank God for bringing Vernon and Gladys together was the perfect match, to produce such a Phenomenal, incredible, amazing human with such a gift to us all. I like to talk about them, because without them. There wouldn't be Elvis Presley "The King of Rock n Roll" who will live on forever! There is no one ever like him. It's impossible! Like John Lennon said "before Elvis there was nothing" he's right. Elvis opened doors for the entertainers to be heard. He had the kindest of all hearts. He'd give his shirt off his back for anyone. He's bought Cadillac, and handed the keys to a complete stranger. Because, he new how it was to have nothing, and to appreciate everything. He never let his fame change who he is on the inside, and I can't Leave without saying his looks, his moves, his voice always draws you in like no one else is in the room. I've never felt such a wonderful emotion from another Performer. He's truly a Gift!!

Elvis was the epitome of what someone can be in America, and he loved America and just knew how to use his band and back-up singers and the whole arrangement to drive the emotion of America's best. Hallelujah indeed. Beautiful song, incredible voice, powerful ending. I might like the Aloha from Hawaii performance a little more (although I can't articulate why) but they're both wonderful. I've been a huge Elvis fan for many years. Someone once asked me which of his songs was my favorite and I had to say honestly, "whichever one I'm listening to."
Wonderful version, which I hadn't seen before. Elvis' singing sounds fresh, because he's into the moment, even when he's done the same song many times. He uses his voice to add so much more than just hitting the right notes.

@@derickcooper3321 Elvis' music has been part of my life for 66 years, ever since Heartbreak Hotel came out and I remember reading that 'every 14-year-old girl in the country was in love with him. Well, I was 14.
I also remember reading that Elvis would be forgotten in 6 months, like so many passing fads. Personally, I think Col. Parker gets significant credit for the longevity of Elvis' popularity, regardless of Col. being demonized in the recent movie.

@@derickcooper3321 Quite a few favorites - ballads: Without Love, If I Can Dream, Love Me Love the Life I Lead, First In Line, A Fool Such As I, Starting Today, Just Pretend. You Gave Me a Mountain, and his Bridge Over Troubled Water is perfection.

Incredible emotional and powerful performance , Elvis just gives in all his songs sung but this one is special, a live on stage what you see and what you hear performance with the band the backing group and orchestra all make this one of the best live performances back in the day and am so fortunate to have seen this stage performance on TV back in that time , live music and stage shows were the best then in my opinion because it was real and raw and we took it for granted , so it`s great to watch again and again thanks so much John for your reaction I can see you were moved bless you x

@@johngibsonmusictotally agree, that rhythm section of Tutt and Scheff is very underrated, Scheff can go from slower notes but then into some funky riffs like in Polk Salad Annie. I know people may not agree with this but I always thought best drummers Ronnie Tutt and Charlie Watts were the underrated drummers. Charlie could easily slip genres with drums, great jazz drummer, never overwhelming but could fly with those hard rock notes. Ronnie was more heavy, hit the crap out of drums but could tone it down too. Ronnie and Elvis always eye contact, Ronnie anticipated what Elvis wanted with a simple look. What I love with Trilogy is how Ronnie goes from the military tap tap and then going hard again, then soft and then really heavy at the end, he does those fills so great. You are right about The Sweets, JD Sumner and the Stamps and also Kathy Westmoreland. You had the deepest notes with JD, the sweets had the soul part and then Kathy with the high soprano notes plus Stamps. All different...JD Sumner/Stamps religious background, the Sweets with the soul/Stax/Motown and then Kathy who was a opera singer, different cultures and you would think it would be a mash of voices, but for all that, they sound so flawless and in tune. Sorry I'm rambling but I love not just the performer but the band, backup singers etc

This rendition is another masterpiece and very similar to the Hawaii version. Those outfits were about 70 lbs a piece. His voice is beyond beautiful. Thanks 🙏

Karen, I have always thought it must make you immensely proud to be American when you hear Elvis sing that song. But it affects people around the whole world; some of my friends who are not even fans of Elvis, all say this is a fantastic song, and we are Australian.

From the spring of '72. Elvis is noticeably heavier here than in the Aloha concert in '73 but still looks regal in his blue cape (only superheroes wear capes, rt?). His powerful voice still brought fans to tears as we saw here.

Of course I am biased I have been an Elvis fanatic for the past 62 years, but arguably I know no other solo recording artist that sounded the same live on stage than they did on a vinyl record, you just have to search You Tube to reach the comments of other performers to see how admired and inspired they were by Elvis Presley, my favorite quote is from Bruce Spingsteen who said with Elvis you could not put the genie back in the bottle, it says it all, keep well and safe John, always love your comments on Elvis, and I have posted this before but you look like an early Elvis.

@@fionagold7257 Ever since I was maybe five yrs old. I have a saying that I might be Minnesota's biggest ELVIS fan. I'm a vocalist, but lately I've only been singing for Church functions. I've also been an imitator ever since I was a little tyke. While at University, I participated in Barbershop quartet, along with my music instructor and my voice teacher. I sang lead in our quartet.

When my Mother died, I never planned on singing for her funeral, since we'd already planned on a lady friend who I'd sang duets together with for special Church services before. All of a sudden she cancelled, so I had an hour to prepare. I sang ELVIS'S "Stand By Me", taken from ELVIS'S Songs of Inspiration...a songbook with his own arrangements. Another song I love to sing along, is "Where Did They Go, Lord"...check that one out if you're unfamiliar.

@@fionagold7257 I'm from Minnesota, not that far from the Canadian border. I grew up watching a television station from Winnipeg, since that had the most reliable signal. So when I went to University, my two roommates were Hockey players from Saskatchewan. I fit right in.

Elvis live, on this form, unbeatable. As you say, «oceans of emotion», seeing him live must have been something that you treasured for life. His doctor, Dr. Nick, said that «his kicker, his turn-on, was crowds. People would carry away something that would them last for days, weeks, for a lifetime».
I saw him live in San Francisco in 1976. Flew across the world from Australia to see him and never regretted it. The atmosphere was electrifying, it felt like the air had been sucked out of the arena when he came on stage, his charisma just shone like the sun.
