  • A walk around of the way I use and set up my Topper EZ Lift for my needs. Had a full season of use and it performed well. The velcro glue had some issues in hot weather tugging free, collecting dust, and no more stick, but easily fixed if you are handy.
I saw heat, cold, rain , nice weather and all in all did what I wanted it to do. So far I like it. If I change my mind on using this set up, I'll use the lifter in my camper for the roof on that. But for turning my Ram into a light stealth backcountry rig, that can have added space at the push of a button, it fits the bill for now. I like the concept.

Love it! It's amazing to me how much some people are spending on rig setup when most of it can be done economically with a little ingenuity a simple material. Nice work!

In the late 50's my uncle had this on back of 1950 internatioal pickup. Used battery power to go up and down. Lots of things have been around for 100 years are more.

it's an ARE aluminum topper. Nothing special. Got it used for 100 bucks on craigslist.

Fantastic video. How long did it take you to install the EZ Lift actuators?

The install was pretty quick (relatively). An afternoon, after deciding where best to place them. The kit was pretty well stocked with mounting hardware that can be configured different ways to meet your needs, as well as a color coded wiring harness. You have to run wires for the lifts, to a power source (my system has it's own dedicated deep cycle in the truck bed), and the control box.
That being said.....as we off roaders often do.....change our minds on priorities and set ups.... I knew the possibility existed I may fall out of favor of the topper lift set up for something more substantial, and not want the lift system to have been a waste of money. Deciding to keep my Hallmark pop-up camper on for the last few years with my lifts just sitting in storage, I was able to retro fit them into the camper to raise the top - most of the way - and just the last couple inches with the camper lift bars. It actually worked awesome.
So, you have versatile lifts if you change your mind down the road too. I'll eventually do a short video about that.

Great set up! How does this perform in rain? Does water get inside? How does this due in high winds?

Thanks. Wind and rain are ok. Pretty stable in wind. In rain the sides work well. A small amount of dribble in along the velcro side attachment. The canopy over the tailgate can gain some water weight and drip in along the zipper a bit. But over all, I stay dry in the interior. I have been in a few good downpours with the topper raised. I think I would rather have "the contractor" rear door than the tent style. But over all it made for a light package as opposed to a traditional camper for spring-summer-fall, and kept the truck dimensions down for tighter trails.

    How much headroom is there?

    • @backcountryoverland103

When it's raised you can stand but need to crouch (in my roof line height topper). When sitting its roomy. The lifters pick up the topper about 14 inches. So depending on the topper height it can be different topper to topper.

What camper shell is that you have on the back of your truck. Not the lift.

When the top is down does it leak any, or do you need to clamp it down.
    Thanks Sid

When it is down, the EZ Lift system holds it tight to the bed rails. The bed perimeter has standard topper tape around it and that seals it fine.
