  • This is an INCREDIBLY rare pick up! Mambo A Go Go is mostly known from the songs in DDR Extreme, but not many people have ever gotten the chance to touch/play one, much less buy one. I've had this cab on my radar for a long time, and I'm incredibly excited to have it in the collection finally!
This came up at Captain's Auction Warehouse. You used to be able to swoop incredible deals all the time there, back when the auctions were in-person only. For a while even after breaking into the online market, you could still get deals at the end of the auction, when it runs until 1-2am and nobody is sticking around. All that has become really few and far between for really good deals.
This one was one of those lucky once every few auctions deals for us. It was at the end of the auction, the top marquee is completely gone/shattered (normally one VERY large piece of molded plastic), and the PCB doesn't boot. All not a problem for me, getting this cab for around $250!! While I may never manage to replace the marquee, an RTC era is VERY easy to fix on a System 573. Taking the ease further, someone already socketed the RTC, meaning all it needed was to be replaced! No soldering required! You really can't do better than this!
The drum pads are pretty jank. They just used Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons in an array under the pad as sensors, instead of using piezo sensors like most other drum games. I guess it makes sense, since there are multiple "sensors" in each drum, so it makes it easier to differentiate hitting different spots on the pad. We didn't end up changing them all out for this video, but I'd bet it'd feel pretty good once done.
The monitor for this cab was in excellent shape! That alone is worth the $250 on the cab.
Last interesting feature of the cab is the fire streamers/blowers on top of the cab. We looked over it, but didn't really get it working in good order. Long-term, we'll probably have to replace the blowers and streamers entirely if we want it to work as intended.
All in all, interesting cab! We'll be picking up and hunting for other incredibly rare BEMANI cabs in the future, so stay tuned for that! As rare as Mambo A Go Go is, it's nowhere close to the rarity of some of the other things we are hunting for or have already picked up. You'll just have to wait and see what we have for you :)

$250 for that is an insane deal even with the rough shape it's in. I've paid more than that just for controllers!

Congrats on this awesome pickup. Makes me super jealous, especially for such a good price. You better give it the time it deserves someday though!

To help make gameplay a bit easier may I recommend cranking up the note speed to 2x to do that all you have to do is at the music select screen hold the center of the first drum and tap the center of the 2nd drum then in the upper right hand corner you will see a 2x icon followed with a sound if entered correctly

Congratulations on the rare pick up! I was fortunate enough to try one of these cabs at my local nickel arcade way back then. I only played it a few times but it was interesting (I was still fixated on DDR at the time.) I don't think they kept the cab for very long sadly.

So cool! Congrats on getting this! I remember a while back you had mentioned you were able to find a Toys March. Did you ever make a video on that?

Yes, but it'll probably be a long time for it to come up in the video queue

I used to play it in a local arcade and I always wanted to replicate the controller. I am shocked that it uses buttons instead of piezos, I was wondering how hard would it be to make it work with piezos since the top of the drums are small por, let's say, 3 piezos.
    Thanks for sharing!

Neat game but I can see why it never became a series. The grading system I did not like however 😂
