He may not be known as "The Pirate King", but I think a man who can go from hostage to Captain within 6 weeks, take 400 ships and make navies around the world think he's invincible is worthy of the title.
Accurate until the game goes back to its mystic prophetic roots from the previous games. Black Flag in most people’s opinions is the best AC game to date.
"You couldn't just walk up to a pirate and say 'Parlay' and not be killed." Well, that's because, "You have to be a pirate for the Pirate's Code to apply, and you're not!" -Captain Hector Barbossa to Elizabeth Swan aboard the cursed Pirate Ship: Black Pearl.
Although not the most famous he was the only real pirate mentioned in the book, Treasure island. That said, he made the other pirates look like weekend offenders.
The outlaw Cullen Baker would be an interesting bio to do. He was unique among desperadoes in his temperament and choice of weapons as well as his choice of a mount. A very interesting character of which few have heard.
Awesome thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. I have been waiting on this one and one on "black bart the gentleman bandit" I wanted to add on this, that it is good to know that you and/or your team actually reads these comments. I appreciate it that immensely.
I will not stop asking. Please make more videos covering the people in the American Civil War, for example; Thomas Jackson, better known as Stonewall General William T. I haven't seen that movie since i was a kid with my sister. Had it on vhs. Ive been hearing people reference it alot recently by pure coincidence... i wonder if it holds up in 2020.
I love that he bacame a pirate from finding another Welshman in the middle of nowhere, which as a Welshman i can beleive as I can go anywhere in the world and I always run into another one.
So glad YT recommended this channel a few months ago. Totally a fan of of learning + all things Simon Whistler 😍 Keep up the great job Biographics! My suggestion: Thomas Thistlewood and/or Jamaican Maroons
Have a suggestion for Biographics, John B. Goodenough. He should be held in similar regard to Norman Borlaug. The man help develope RAM, Lithium Ion batteries and and now in his 90s is helping to develop Solid State Batteries.
Simon! You should most definitely do a Geographic episode on Hurricane Laura. Strongest wind speed at landfall since 1856. As someone who lives in the area hit by both Laura and Delta, and with Zeta still undetermined at this point, I feel like this snippet of the overwhelming year of 2020 would be a great topic.
Bravo! I adore your channel, especially when you do bios of pirate-era figures. Making a historical boardgame about the age of piracy, I found it challenging to convey the topic. I've got some great notions and good ideas for the early-stage prototypes, but I'm still out at sea with no shore in sight. I hope you write biographies of some of the Spanish governors who dealt with piracy at the time, particularly one with a humorous Alonso de Sotomayor against Francis Drake incident or Blas de Lezo against Edward Vernon.
Great video! I love the one's about pirates, Roman Emperors, and ancient warriors. As usual, I am here to request a video on Ip Man, martial arts mentor to Bruce Lee. Sure, he's got movies about him, but I don't think they quite touched on his real life like you guys could. Thank you in advance! -A Loyal Subscriber
watching Biographics , today i found out', highlight history and geographics episodes made me curious about history more than any school I've been in ;-) and Simon W. also has channel's called mega projects , side projects , top tenz , VisualPolitik EN . I think they're all great channels !!
there are still more pirate stories to explore. how about checking out Ching Shih - also known as Cheng I Sao - who commanded over 80000 pirates, and eventually forced the chinese government to cut a deal (on her terms no less) that allowed her to retire with the bulk of her personal fortune. which is an astounding accomplishment for any pirate, let alone a woman.
I would love to see a Biographics on Geroge Lincoln Rockwell. I believe it's appropriate given the current political climate in the United States. Not many people know about him despite a large amount of info is out there about him. I feel it's good to learn from history no matter who the subject is and make our soon to be history better.
Through all of my days at sea, I've never dreaded the pirate, Roberts.....those shrieking eels, though..... Fricking nasty....Ta hell with some shrieking eels.
While we are on the subject of pirates I think women ought to be mentioned as well. What ab't highlighting the stories of, ANNE BONNIE, and MARY REED? I think one was imprisoned or (later) hung for piracy. Both were imprisoned and put to trial for their crimes and debauchery while on the high seas. One of the women gained a lucky reprieve (as she was pregnant at the time of her imprisonment) when she was bailed out by a rich relative never to be seen or heard from again. This owed in part to the 'promise' of abandoning the piracy life in exchange for, the agreement of (quiet) reintegration back into respectable society. Thanks for the consideration.

There really was a Dread Pirate Roberts? Inconceivable.

I liked "The Princess Bride" too!

The epic story of an epic pirate, Black Bart's death really did signal the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.

This must be how William Goldman got the title "The Dread Pirate Roberts" for the Princess Bride.

By watching a RUclips video made close to 49 years later?
Ive been waiting for this video for a very long time. Thanks Simon "The Magnificent Beard" Wistler

The name’s Bart. Black Bart. I’ll have a rum, shivered, not stirred.

And will that be a
a yo-ho-ho and in a bottle, sir?
He was a tee-totaller. He never drank rum or any other alcohol.

Don't forget his other 10 or so channels
I just get hypnotised by his eye brows
“No one would answer to the Dread Pirate Westley...”
I learn more by watching videos from Simon's crew, (on any of his channels) than I ever learned in the American education system.
No kidding, right?!?!

I completely agree with the Pirate Code that anyone who makes noise below decks after 8pm should walk the plank.
Excellent content. I am loving your channels! Thank you for the supplemental education. Cheers
Absolutely loved that sell for Morning Brew, Simon!!! Never thought I'd enjoy an ad LOL
These real life pirate stories are just amazing!
