One aspect to remember is that Jesus is a follower of the laws established by his father. And the commandment to honor your father and your mother is paramount in his life …. The father being his father placed his father in a place of honor.
Note this also applies to his mother which is why when he first asked what business the wine is to him and that his time has not yet come, at the wedding of Cana that he actually makes the wine because it is Mary’s will to have the wine for the wedding …

Is Jesus' human part serving his God part in heaven currently? No of course not. Jesus is serving "the ONLY True God" in heaven now and forever. He and I serve the same God. Do you know where in the Bible verse Jesus called himself "God"

[6] and saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. [7] Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Who did Satan tempt, is Jesus
Then Jesus said you should not tempt the Lord your God it is written
    Luke 24:44
[44] And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
    John 5:46 KJV
[46] For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
    Matthew 22:32 KJV
[32] I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
Here Jesus clearly said "I am God"

But then the Athanasius creed says “And in this Trinity none is before or after other; none is greater or less than another;”

The three persons of the trinity are all God or of the same substance of God, not created entities. It is my understanding that this was one of the main reasons St. John the Evangelist wrote his Gospel the way he did. Christians were struggling with this understanding even then. This is why John 1 and the rest of Jesus's prayer in John 17 are so important. See John 17:5, 21, 23. 17:3, if read by itself seems like Jesus was a prophet or something, but I don't believe there are any contradictions in the Bible. Where it looks like one exists, I take the "yes, and" approach. They are mysteries which are hard for humans to understand. And that's ok. That's why Jesus founded his Church. Contemplation of these things bring us closer to Him.
Unitarian theology is seen as simpler, but that doesn't make it true. His ways are not our ways.

    I found it somewhat ironic that the answer is explained through the works of Church Councils centuries later and the writings of later theologians and philosophers. Clearly, this verse has posed a problem for certain Christians right from the beginning as Jesus clearly stated that his Father was greater than him. (No equality=No trinity). To make matters worse, throughout he gospel of John, the Son is subordinate to The Father ; is differentiiated from God and even claims to have a God. (John 1 :18; John14 :1; John 17 :3;
    John 5 :19; John 5 :26,27, 30,36,37; John 20 :17).
Apparently, we cannot possibly take the words of Jesus at face value:
The Father is greater (John 14:28)
The Father is the one true God(John 17:3)
God is someone else (John14 :1)
Jesus does not have life in himself (John 5 :26)
    Jesus has a God(John 20 :17)
Indeed, the entire purpose of John's gospel is not to tell us that Jesus is God Almighty or the Lord God, but that he is the messiah(Christ) th Son of God. (John 20 :31). This claim in itself makes him one other than God! Indeed, in no gospel is Jesus ever called God Almighty or Lord God, titles for YHWH alone.
So why can we not just accept what the gospel of John says or even the words of Jesus himself as recorded in the gospel ? Becaus clearly, these veses undermine completely the cherished doctrine of the Trinity which was not even developed until later centuries according to standard reference works.
But what about the scriptures used as supporting evidence.
    - John 1 :1- This cannot be used as evidence of the Trinity, like all the rest, as no third person is mentioned. In fact, we note that Jesus /Christ is not even mentioned in the verse, but the title, the 'Word'. If this title is for the Son of God, who is the God he is WITH in verses 1 &2?
-John 1 :3 - all things were made through him (ASV) ; by his agency(Byington); One can be the agent of creation without being the creator. The Son can be the agent without being God Almighty.
    - John 1:14- It is the word of God that becaame flesh, not God. God sent is son, not himself. (John 3 :16)
-John 10 :30- Jesus himself explains in what sense he is one with the Father in John 17:21-23. The disciples are also one with each other and him and God. It is a oneness of purpose.
-John14 :6,9- In verse 6, Jesus distinguishes himself from the Father explaining that now he is the only way to the Father. As the Son of God, the appointed messiah, the image of God(Col 1 :15), he perfectly reflects his Father's qualities and so seeing Jesus literally is like seeing the Father figuratively. No man can see God. (John 1 :18). Jesus was certainly not claiming to be the Father as this is heretical in the doctrine of the Trinity. Indeed, 1300 times the Father is presented as God in the NT. We should, therefore, read any ambiguous statements through the lenses of the rest of he NT and not force a preconceived idea or anachronistic presupposition on the text.
In view of the above, I cannot agree with the claims of the ontent creator.

It has always been difficult to place into words the eternal realities which are beyond words, particularly as our knowledge is always partial.
However, that which has been revealed to us regarding this created realm and God's plan of salvation are sufficient for us here and now.
This finite creation was brought into existence by processions of the divine Word and divine Breath (Genesis chapter one). The created realm is sustained moment by moment by the same Mind and power, "...in him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28; Colossians 1:17). At the appointed time, the Word became flesh, conceived by the divine Breath, and we have seen his glory, that of a Son sent forth from a loving Father (Gospel of John, chapter one).

@ If Jesus is G-d, then who is G-d’s Anointed One-G-d wouldn’t need to Anoint Himself? Scripture tells us that G-d is not a man that He lies, but Jesus said he was not “given to know the day or hour”-he surely didn’t lie?
Also, Paul and John both state, “no man has seen G-d” and Paul takes this farther in 1st Timothy ch6 that “no man has, or will see”. Both had encountered Jesus after his resurrection?
The Trinity was a product of Rome to patronize the former worshippers of Zeus / Jupiter, and the Jewish Messiah was turned into a man-god that the Greeks and Romans were familiar with worshipping. Also, the classical image of Jesus, existed on Greek and Roman coins as Zeus / Jupiter, long before Jesus. So every Christian who says “Jesus is G-d” has an image burned into their consciousness that was formerly Zeus’s-and G-d warned of making “images of things in heaven, or in the seas, or on the earth below…” read about the Greek Hypsistarians, who related every other nations god with their own Zeus.
Jesus / Yeshua said to Repent, and this must happen before we can be Born Again, or have Christ’s Anointing in Us. Its a real change, and G-d will reveal His Word, and what he wants us to do, and know about His character. A lot of times we hold on to doctrine thinking our traditions will save us, and these can also be a very real stumbling block to actually Repenting, and seeing what G-d actually wants to reveal and implement in our lives. I can tell you, He has a far better plan for each of us, than anything we can make up for ourselves!

@@maxprescott9371 You better study John 10 carefully, because Jesus refers to Psalms 82:6 and the alternate Hebrew usage of the word Elohim, frequently translated by Greeks as simply G-d / Theo, but in this case it is used as a Holy One, Divine One, same as Samuel is called an Elohim, and David says “we are all Elohim, Sons of the Most High.” This is what some call a “little cap god” and David says we are all suppose to be. Jesus, when falsely accused of making himself out to be G-d, refers to this very usage of the Word Elohim / אלהימ, and then states clearly, he is a son of G-d, basically declaring his Messiahship.
He does not know the “day or hour.” He was seen by everyone, when John and Paul are clear, “no man has seen G-d,” and Paul says “or will see G-d” in 1 Timothy 6. Also, if you are saying G-d Himself came in the flesh, and not His Anointed Servant, or have to modify the Test of the Spirit in First John, you’re kind of failing the parameters given in the Test!
Also, read the dialogue John has with the Divine Being / Elohim in the last chapter of Revelation, remember it is the message G-d gave Jesus / Yeshua to give to his disciple. The Divine one goes on to declare the Divine Name, and states “he is Jesus the Messiah, the Root and Seed of David,” and he’d just stopped John from bowing to him, and told him to worship G-d. This Servant / Divine One is the same as the Angel of Exodus 23 who can pronounce judgement, because “My Name is in Him-this is a Sheliach in Hebrew, a Messenger / Makakha / Angel / G-d’s sent one!

I disagree with the humanity argument. The church is great at contriving word salad to arrive at conclusions consistent with doctrine. Let’s just accept both of our Lord’s statements that “the Father and I are one”, and “the Father is greater than I” and be content that we don’t get it all. In John, our Lord speaks of “the Father” dozens of times in the few short chapters beginning with Judas’ departure and up to his arrest, so clearly Jesus is NOT the Father, yet is one with the Father. It is a communion into which we are also invited. Or try this, a better approach: Christ is the Word. Well my words are preceded by my thoughts. My thoughts create, my words (and deeds) manifest, yet I am one. If the thought creates and precedes the word then isn’t the thought 1st (or greater) than the 2nd, the word.

  • @derekdavis3004

Of course Jesus would say the Father is greater. As a man Jesus had to fulfill the Law and part of fulfilling the Law would need to bow before God. As an aside we humans cannot truly understand the Trinity. Being different beings while also being the same is beyond earthly understanding. But, you and I both understand it as much as is possible. That is because God has revealed these things to us. Many things seem obvious to us because we are blessed with divine wisdom. I think that this point is important because we need to appreciate that others don't see spiritual things as clearly. We really need to be patient and kind with others when it comes to spiritual matters. We should understand why someone might say it is all foolishness. 1 Corinthians 2:14 tells us as much. Even fellow believers fit into this, I think. God's wisdom is vast and he shares it as he pleases. Not everyone who says they believe understands the truth of the gospel the same way, for example. So, I think we should be very careful about becoming arrogant in thinking we are so much more knowledgeable than others. Yes, we can boast in the Lord but that is only when God's receives all the credit.

No offense is meant in this comment, but this is simply not true. If this were true, then once Christ was resurrected then he would again be equal to the Father and be God, and yet we repeatedly find references that show that the Father was still Jesus’ God (John 20:17; 2 Corinthians 1:3 and Jesus himself stating it in Revelation 3:14). If the Trinity was such an essential Christian doctrine, necessary for a person’s salvation, then why did it take nearly 500 years and numerous church councils to adopt and express it? I understand that there are many Scriptures that blur the line between Father and Son, and I gladly accept them all. However, you can’t ignore or explain away verses that contradict your doctrine. If this doctrine had not been labeled “orthodox” and dissenters labeled as “heretics” we might have come to a more accurate understanding of the Father and Son’s true relationship.

Was Jesus a spirit? Was he in human form, in the Heavens? If he was a spirit, with the Father, then that innately makes two spirits - The Father (God’s ineffable, ethereal spirit) and the Son (Jesus’s ineffable, ethereal spirit?).. Then add the Holy Spirit in there as the third - That being the case, how can this still be called a monotheistic religion, when it’s quite literally three different spirits that a person would be worshipping/calling God?
Honestly, I’ve earnestly tried to wrap my head around this, and it still doesn’t make sense to me.

It takes “mind bending” to believe in any god as does any intellectual pursuit. There is 1 God and 3 persons. This is hard to understand since we can’t be 3 people at the same time with the same identity. That’s why there is a difference between God and man

Hope this helps to be honest your objections are straw Manning our position
      1. The Trinity: One Essence, Three Persons
We as Christian affirm that God is one in essence (ousia) and three in persons (hypostases): the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is not three gods or three separate spirits, but one God who exists eternally in three distinct, yet inseparable persons.
      • John 10:30: Jesus says, “I and the Father are one,” emphasizing the unity of the divine essence.
      • Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” These passages affirm monotheism by worshiping the one God in Trinity.
Orthodox theology distinguishes between essence (what God is) and personhood (how God exists relationally). The Father, Son, and Spirit are not three “different spirits” but one essence shared fully and equally by all three persons.
      2. Pre-Incarnate Christ
The comment asks about Jesus’ pre-incarnate form. Orthodox Christianity teaches:
      • Before the Incarnation, the Son (Logos) was not human but fully divine, co-eternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
      • The Son existed as pure spirit, not as a human being, as humanity was taken on only in the Incarnation (John 1:14: “The Word became flesh”).
      • This does not imply “two spirits” because the Son’s divine essence is the same as the Father’s essence. The distinction between Father and Son lies in their personhood, not in having separate essences or “spirits.”
      3. The Incarnation and Christ’s Two Natures
When the Son became incarnate, He took on a human nature without ceasing to be divine. This is the doctrine of the hypostatic union:
      • Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, one person with two natures (divine and human), without confusion or division.
      • His humanity is unique to His Incarnation and does not alter the eternal unity of the Trinity.
The reason why we as Christians ate monotheistic is because:
      • The Trinity is not three separate beings but one God in three persons.
      • Worship is directed toward the one God, who reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
      • The Nicene Creed clarifies this: “We believe in one God, the Father Almighty… and in one Lord Jesus Christ… and in the Holy Spirit.”
The misunderstanding of “three spirits” arises from conflating the distinct persons of the Trinity with separateness in essence, which Orthodox theology rejects.
The reason the trinity trips people up is because they have a false preposition which they unknowingly linking man mode of existence to God’s
Humans exist as singular persons, but the Trinity reveals that God exists as one being in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This unity in diversity reflects a higher mode of existence that is incomprehensible to human beings.
Human nature is confined to a single person per being.
      • Divine transcendence: God’s nature is not limited in this way. God’s existence as three persons within one essence shows a relational richness that far exceeds human existence.
      So I’m conclusion
      1. Jesus Christ existed eternally as the divine Son, sharing the same essence with the Father and the Spirit, not as a separate “spirit” or human form.
      2. The Trinity is one God in three persons, not three gods or spirits, preserving monotheism.
      3. Christianity affirms the Incarnation as the Son taking on human nature without altering His divine essence or the unity of the Trinity.
The confusion in the comment stems from misunderstanding the distinction between essence and personhood in Trinitarian theology. Orthodox Christianity resolves these issues by maintaining the unity of God and the relational distinctions within the Trinity.
Hope this helps I sent time with this response

You confuse spirits with persons. God is 3 persons one God, (same essence). Just like any human has a soul a spirit and a body. The body isn't the spirit, the spirit isn't the soul and the soul isn't the body, yet all three made a human being, take the soul out of the body or separe the spirit from the soul and you have a cadaver, not a human being. Why do you think God said; "Let US make man to OUR likeness" is it because God has a nose and two hands like us? No, in us live an image of the Godness. A human trinity that reflects God's trinity.

    Things Biblical Unitarians believe
God the Father is the only true God according to John's account
Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God according to the Apostle Peter
The dead are truly dead and are not floating spirits or in heaven but awaiting the trumpet call whne the dead will rise at the voice of the Christ
Hell is not eternal torment but the wicked and sinful will be destroyed in the lake of fire. God doesn't torture human beings day and night.
I hope you all reading this will have a heart of wisdom and be the bereans we Christians are all called to be. Test everything and be found in good favor in the sight of the one who can bring the dead to life. Take care friends.

      Unitarians beliefs are not biblical.
The same John’s account explicitly explained the divinity of Christ.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but was to give testimony of the light. 9 That was the true light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, he gave them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in his name. 13 Who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15 John beareth witness of him, and crieth out, saying: This was he of whom I spoke: He that shall come after me, is preferred before me: because he was before me.

The other arguments are not related to unitarianism but for salvation.
      Yes, hell is eternal.
      GOSPEL OF MATTHEW
41 Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink. 43 I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? 45 Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.
46 And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.
