Autorotating a BO105 Helicopter

I recently ferried a helicopter from San Francisco to Boston. Along the way, we watched this pilot practicing autorotations. An autorotation is when a pilot glides a helicopter without using the engine. In this case, the pilot is practicing, and uses the engine at the bottom of each one to terminate in a hover. In an actual engine failure, he would use the rotor inertia to land.

BO-105s are my favorite helicopter as well as the Agusta Westland AW 139s.

it's unique 54rigid rotor system makes the BO-105 a preferred platform for stunt pilots as it is capable of inverted flight for very short fun jjrhhx x

Must be hard to spool up those engines with the overhead throttles, we never practice auto's in our 105.

Put them at idle, and do touchdown autos. And if you have aspirations to "build some time" doing offshore work for example, you better teach/learn zero airspeed autos. Just sayin' 🚁🚁🚁

Power recovery autos are lame. Full down or bust.
