@@GadgetryTech Guys does anyone know about this: I have Audeze Maxwell Headset connected to my old PC. I want to connect my Tv using optical out or HDMI ARC into the PC. So that Audeze headset can get the best sound to work with. There on i can dabble with Dolby audio app etc. Problem is: my old PC does not have a Optical IN port or ofc HDMI ARC port, so I was thinking what if i Buy this creative G8, send Optical OUT or HDMI ARC from the Tv to the G8, from there G8 has a USB cable connected to the PC. With this connection I imagine I would be able to send whatever I play on the Tv ( games, youtube or movies etc.) the sound part of it ( which is often 5.1 or above ) will be carried to my PC, where in Audeze Headset is connected. Can anyone confirm this ?
How different is the sound quality with the GC7? The fact that everything needs to be done through PC is a deal breaker as a ps5 player. If there's no mobile app, I might as well stay on the GC7 which works on my phone.
Haha, sorry for the delay! I had a bug with bass being boosted/stuck on and was working with engineers on a solution. I think it was a pre-launch firmware bug because I could never replicate the issue and it's been great since.
Thanks so much for this comprehensive and detailed review. I didn't mean to pressure you, but really appreciate your, time, efforts and content. Stay well, Sir.
Wait what was the firmware issue you mentioned weeks ago in one post or was it a wrong alarm? Sorry if you talked about in this review and I missed it, rather late here. And thanks for the review.
All good! So it was a pre-release bug, and it seems that since the reset, I've never been able to replicate the problem. I've tried everything I could to have the same bass issue bit it's been flawless on that regard since. It could be one of those by products of getting a sample pre-launch and them ironing it out in production firmware.
When I saw 2usb C ports at the back I initially thought I maybe able to connect my fifine external mic directly through dac via usb c but then I won’t be able to connect to pc and benefit from game chat mix ?
Hey man, thanks for the review as always! I know you said it's a performance upgrade to the G6/ GC7, I'm curious how the audio performance is vs the X5's single ended jack?
getting the gunnr just for the sole reason of being driverless. Seems like peripherals being driverless these days is usually what sways me towards one product over another.
I have the Gunnr and it's pretty great. Actually sound pretty close to my Jotunheim 2. The Jotunheim edges it out a little, but at double the price unless you need a nuclear reactor to power your headphones the gunnr is a real winner. I don't really use the width and presence unless I'm just messing around. The Jotunheim can double as a space heater though...
I have the GC7 and I'm very happy with it... but I didn't understand one thing, but it doesn't have a mute button for the microphone... so there isn't a method for muting it.
Thank you very much for the review! Really appreciate your content. I am torn between the G8 and Gunnr and also not sure what would be best to power the ATH-R70x Refine headphones I have on pre-order
Have had a G8 for a few weeks. Lack of mobile app access (for console gamers) is a disappointment as is the significant Volume reduction if using PS5 via USB2 and power via USB1 in a multi system setup. Need Creative to launch a proper multi purpose replacement to the X7 - with more to support console gamers.
If you don't need any of the special features this has, the K11 R2R is fantastic. This has less power but a lot more customization, so it depends what's important to you
Fun video! I hate that all these DAC/headphone amps don’t work with Xbox usb. You always have to extract audio. What do you think is the best setup for Xbox? It’d be fun to see console specific videos.
I have the Sound Blasterx G6 and the Gel and they work great for me, but do you think it would be necessary to upgrade them to the G8 if what I'm looking for is power?
Im a pc user and use my sound card to connect an avr for 5.1. Could i use this instead of my graphics card thought arc. Just a thought. Or if you know a better way, let me know, lol great review 👍
Hi GadgetryTech, did you try to spin the knob from 40% to 0% while listening to music/game sound? With my G8 there is a huge decrease in volume when the knob is around 15% (100% windows volume). It is exactly the spot i need for my games/webbrower/apps to be, but man, it is either too loud or not loud enough. :(
So it’s possible to get voice chat over mobile phone with the Xbox? The chart you show in the video, arc or optical from tv to g8 and usb from g8 to mobile phone for voice chat? How does that work? So you talk In to your phone and voice chat gets in my party? Or what? Can you explain?
Please please give us an eq video for the Maxwell! I’ve literally been going back to my pc38x on ps5 controller an it sounds night and day better for bo6! Help my guy!! Love the vids!
Sidetone is great if you don't use any mic enhancements. The noise cancellation one isn't as bad of a delay, but the others are worse. Almost no other amp/dac has all of these mic enhancements, so they don't have a delay either. Kind of levels the playing field a bit. Schiit Gunnr is stripped of features but sounds fantastic and has a ton of power. That and the G8 are the best DAC/amps for the money right now for headsets.
I'm completely new to audio stuff. I just got the Hd560s for my ps5 pro and it's sound great, it only need something extra... I plug it directly into my ps5 with a small creative DAC I got. So I guess that one will make a great difference? I was looking for the gc7 but I need an HDMI extractor with it to get the best sound with an optical cord. With that one, I don't need one right?
Watching now as I have had this DAC for about a week now, but have been having trouble with the mic monitoring being slightly delayed. When using the GC7 I have no delay at all. The G8 in direct mode has no delay, but then users in games and such cannot hear me (Which I believe is to be expected).
I used the g6 for years, it was like a secret weapon. When all the popular gaming brands were on muddy sounding 16/44.1 or worse, the g6 had me at 32/384 or 32/192 if 384 wasn’t supported. Crystal clear audio way before the popular gaming brands.
Considering this has a multi-input mixer, HDMI ARC, optical audio, GOOD sound quality, a good mic preamp, etc., I'd argue that this is a much better value than many audio products on the market right now

@@Silver_Joystix It matches or exceeds the Hel in pretty much every way. Unless you got a defective one.
Can these gaming DACs work well too for just plain music listening?
Why not.
Its just dac. I use for gaming FIIO K9 AKM model and make for music and use for gaming with 660s2 and dolby atmos headphones.
My main issue with soundblaster products is poor software, hardware is solid but software is there weak point. Is this an issue with this unit?

Ok looks like I just need to use both/two USB Cables for direct mode to work...which is definitely different than the GC7. Kind of bizarre.
TLDW chapter is great!
I'll stick with my Schiit gunnr or Jotunheim. I was a creative user for years and have an AE-9 but it's currently living in my closet.
Any Schiit Gunnr comparison
Yup, in the beginning, at the end of the mic test, and in final thoughts.
@GadgetryTech the TLDW is actually a great touch man, appreciate it
The mic quality literally didn’t change at all when you swapped between presets.
I thought so too. I think some of the mic control bugs are the biggest issue with it atm. Aside from that it's pretty solid
what’s a good DAC for xbox?
Not using the microphone presets seems best
Yeah if you don't need noise cancellation, all off sounds great.

Creative has been a popular audio and gaming brand for like 30yrs. Idk what you’re smoking
@ yea? Go ahead and ask a bunch of console gamers if they know about creative… see how that turns out. put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I have always hated creative’s software, click on one thing and it turns on things you don’t want on.
No mute button and no power button are major f***-ups, and a hard pass for me.
requiring two usb cable for game voice chating.....not for me

Does it work on xbox? I want headphones/mic, dac/amp on my xbox!!!! hahahah
Got balance?
It’s a gaming dac, no gaming headset is even going to have a 4.4mm or xlr so it’s pointless to have balanced, plus like he stated the X5 has balanced.
👍👍👍
why do dac amps cost so much, does the quality of a dac even matter?
