What I really want to know is the Dolby Digital and the HDMI ARC etc. If I connect my TV HDMI ARC to it. Does the G8 process the signal or the TV and do you get full dolby Digital 5.1 surround using the headphones. This is the first DAC/sound card I've seen that make use of HDMI ARC and not just Optical. The HDMI ARC would provide better sound in surround. I think as a clean more full Dolby Digital signal instead of just PCM 5.1. I am not sure about that. But it could be a factor. The reason I want to know is because I would like to use it for watching movies via streaming on the TV for example the Dolby Digital from Netflix etc being sent as DD surround to be enjoyed via the headphones. I can do that for example with my big ole Receiver from Yamaha that just apply "silent cinema" to the headphones as in 5.1 DD surround. But that receiver is massive. This little device would be simpler and I could also just use it for PC gaming as well. I am also curious can it do this DD over HDMI ARC and using the "Direct mode". Since Direct mode removes processing, but the HDMI ARC and DD is just pure stream from the TV I wonder if that work and still produce or 'decode' the DD. That would be nice since Direct mode is higher resolution and cleanest.

Hi GadgetryTech, did you try to spin the knob from 40% to 0% while listening to music/game sound? With my G8 there is a huge decrease in volume when the knob is around 15% (100% windows volume). It is exactly the spot i need for my games/webbrower/apps to be, but man, it is either too loud or not loud enough. :(

How different is the sound quality with the GC7? The fact that everything needs to be done through PC is a deal breaker as a ps5 player. If there's no mobile app, I might as well stay on the GC7 which works on my phone.
@TheRealSupraVision I use the app all the time on my GC7. I will not accept a dac in 2024 (nearly 2025) that doesn't have an app. That's a downgrade imo.
@@TheQuickyouknow So you basically don't understand why you buy a dac. Having everything going through the board itself is way more quality than software way to manage the sound. So music oriented app are crazy with those filters into their dac.
@@humain_humain1465 No you missed the point. It's still going through the dac, the app only controls the dac in more detail than the onboard controls can (eg, adjusting the 125 hz frequency vs a singular bass knob on the dac). Every setting changed on the app saves directly to the dac, none of them runs through external software. It's basically like using your phone as a remote for a smart TV. The TV is not running through my phone, but the phone gives you more control. If you don't understand how this stuff works, then don't comment on it.
What would the best dac/amp be for sennheiser hd560s? I was going to order the g8 but not sure if theres something better. I'd be using on ps4/ps5 and pc.
Is there any possible way to be able to make it so when I turn the volume up/down its NOT windows volume and its seperate? I have the astro mixamp (trash I know) But I really like how the audio volume is seperate from windows
A bit confused about the mic connection situation: If I want to use the microphone, I have to use the second usb-c port together with whatever output port I choose (being the combo usb/dc or other line out)? Meaning that if I do not care about the chat mix feature but still want to use a microphone, I cannot just have 1 usb cable from the device connected to whatever source I want?
Im a pc user and use my sound card to connect an avr for 5.1. Could i use this instead of my graphics card thought arc. Just a thought. Or if you know a better way, let me know, lol great review 👍
I'm completely new to audio stuff. I just got the Hd560s for my ps5 pro and it's sound great, it only need something extra... I plug it directly into my ps5 with a small creative DAC I got. So I guess that one will make a great difference? I was looking for the gc7 but I need an HDMI extractor with it to get the best sound with an optical cord. With that one, I don't need one right?
I’ve got a question, I just got my G8 and it works great when USB 1 and 2 are both plugged into my PS5 but when I plug USB 1 to my PC, TV optical to G8 and USB 2, my mic will not work on the ps5, I was wondering if you had any idea? I reached out to creatives support to see if they can give me an answer but that’ll probably take days. Does the SBX profile carry over to the device from the PC to be used on the PS5? I use Dolby digital via optical over the TV, the decoder light comes on but it’s odd because I cannot switch it to direct mode while Dolby is enabled, only can use SBX, scout or the lights off. It’s probably for some growing pains since it’s new.
My game to voice knob doesn’t work. USB 1 USB 2 are both plugged into PC. Settings on pc and game ( WZ ) I think are set properly . I used Astro mixamp before G8 worked fine . Now when I plug Astro mixamp back in voice to chat don’t work either . Must be a setting I’m missing . Any help would be appreciated?
Can I replace USB1, USB2, or even both with USB-C to USB-A cables if I don’t have enough ports on my motherboard? The B650E Aorus Master has only one USB-C port. Thank you!
How dods this work with a Switch Lite? I have this with my Orchestra lite and just ordered the mmx 300 pro with Stella 45 driver for my pc and Series S👍
I watched the setup portion of the video and it left me wondering if I could use this DAC with both my ps5 (for sound only) and my pc (sound + mic) at the same time. Maybe this is a weird use case.
So it’s possible to get voice chat over mobile phone with the Xbox? The chart you show in the video, arc or optical from tv to g8 and usb from g8 to mobile phone for voice chat? How does that work? So you talk In to your phone and voice chat gets in my party? Or what? Can you explain?
How is the performance with mic input? I have AE-5 Plus, and the mic input is very low, and I had to crank up mic gain to +30dB, but then there's the hissing noise. If use noise suppression the noise is gone, but voice quality suffers. Does G8/G6 have same problem?

Hello ! Im actually with a xlr mic and iem kz but im looking for a dac which can accept the microphone xlr cable and headphones . Have you an Idea ? Thanks for all bro ❤
I'm liking the G8 so far but I just have one issue with it... If I want to use 'Optical In' (PC to AmpDac) for my headset and stereo speakers it only seems to work if I plug the USB1/DC into an outside power source (like my surge protector) instead of the PC, but this makes it so 'Device USB-1' is not available and so I have no Creative App options (physical buttons on the AmpDac still work though). If I plug the USB1/DC into the PC then of course I have 'Device USB-1' available and all my Creative App options are there, but then Optical doesn't work. I always have USB-2 plugged into the PC so that I can use my headset mic.
I can easily drive DT770 pro(80 ohm) with X3. You can easily drive it with G8. Creative makes good hardware but their software is bad. If you have any softwareless dacs available to you, buy them.
Hello,, Can somebody tell me ,why the Usb-c 2 at the G8 fells quiet then the Usb-c1 ,on Ps5 with VoiceMix ???The Soundsetup from Ps5 are on Max Level!!is it a Softwareproblem?
Watching now as I have had this DAC for about a week now, but have been having trouble with the mic monitoring being slightly delayed. When using the GC7 I have no delay at all. The G8 in direct mode has no delay, but then users in games and such cannot hear me (Which I believe is to be expected).
I have tested the device. There was a noise at my iems. Did anyone else notice that? I have now bought a 2 and will still test it. It can't be because of my pc, because I have an expensive dac and there is no noise

It is exactly the spot i need for my games/webbrower/apps to be, but man, it is either too loud or not loud enough. :(
Hey man, thanks for the review as always! I know you said it's a performance upgrade to the G6/ GC7, I'm curious how the audio performance is vs the X5's single ended jack?
Commenting to also get the answer
Does the mic input work while being in direct mode? I would really love an answer please and thank you. As the G6 mic input don't work while being in direct mode.
Can these gaming DACs work well too for just plain music listening?
Why not.
Its just dac. I use for gaming FIIO K9 AKM model and make for music and use for gaming with 660s2 and dolby atmos headphones.
@robinenbernhard oh cool. Why do they market these as gaming DACs?
Can you make a updated review of the Mayflower Arc Mk2?
@gadgetryTech liking amp but i am having a strange issue. I was wondering if you saw it when testing? When i enable the SPDIF it will play for about 4 minutes then will automatically mute itself under monitoring and then i will have to re enable it. I also am not sure how to get the Dolby Digital to work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
How different is the sound quality with the GC7? The fact that everything needs to be done through PC is a deal breaker as a ps5 player. If there's no mobile app, I might as well stay on the GC7 which works on my phone.
I mean if you need to EQ, but if you’re using it in direct mode, you probably won’t need to use the app on PC to change anything.
@@TheQuickyouknow lmao XD I love you kid.
Will you recommend Creative G8 Gaming DAC over Topping DX3 Pro+ or is Topping DX3 Pro+ still best ?
It was never the best
What do you think about this vs the creative x4?
What would the best dac/amp be for sennheiser hd560s? I was going to order the g8 but not sure if theres something better. I'd be using on ps4/ps5 and pc.
Is there any possible way to be able to make it so when I turn the volume up/down its NOT windows volume and its seperate? I have the astro mixamp (trash I know) But I really like how the audio volume is seperate from windows
How does this compare to BTA30 PRO, in regards to sound quality?
How does this stack up against something like the Elgato Wave XLR? Thanks
Hello what do you think about Astro a40 DAC? Is it good?
A bit confused about the mic connection situation:
If I want to use the microphone, I have to use the second usb-c port together with whatever output port I choose (being the combo usb/dc or other line out)?
Meaning that if I do not care about the chat mix feature but still want to use a microphone, I cannot just have 1 usb cable from the device connected to whatever source I want?
Im a pc user and use my sound card to connect an avr for 5.1. Could i use this instead of my graphics card thought arc. Just a thought. Or if you know a better way, let me know, lol great review 👍
Would you get the g8 or the gsx 1000
Are you asking which is better in his opinion? The EPOS GSX 1000 is no longer available as EPOS have moved away from the gaming segment.
Good morning, I have the G6 and I play Black Ops 6 with Orchestra Lite IEM. Do you think it's worth upgrading to G8 ? Thanks
GC7 is better then g6 for me
I watched the setup portion of the video and it left me wondering if I could use this DAC with both my ps5 (for sound only) and my pc (sound + mic) at the same time. Maybe this is a weird use case.
Thank you for the TLDW!
Does G8/G6 have same problem?
excellent work big thanks tell me pls
in G8 only scout mod and XAMP but in GC7 scout mod and SXFI mod
can you advice me whish is best for gaming FPS call of duty warzone, pubg, battlefield, battle royal games
thanks for any info
Just got this today and for the life of me, cannot get any audio from the optical out to my AV receiver. As for headphones, I tried it with a HyperX Cloud 2 and a pair of IEMs and all audio, regardless of setting is in stereo. Sucks for gaming then.
The side tone issue I have in my X4 with a modmic! also the x4 just doesn't get loud enough for that modmic
Anything like this with a connection for XLR mics that can balance chat audio on the fly like that?
Hello ! Im actually with a xlr mic and iem kz but im looking for a dac which can accept the microphone xlr cable and headphones .
Have you an Idea ?
Thanks for all bro ❤
what’s a good DAC for xbox?
I play on a pc monitor with ps5. Is there a way to get chat/game mix working for me? Some way to get optical out from the ps5?
I'm liking the G8 so far but I just have one issue with it...
If I want to use 'Optical In' (PC to AmpDac) for my headset and stereo speakers it only seems to work if I plug the USB1/DC into an outside power source (like my surge protector) instead of the PC, but this makes it so 'Device USB-1' is not available and so I have no Creative App options (physical buttons on the AmpDac still work though).
If I plug the USB1/DC into the PC then of course I have 'Device USB-1' available and all my Creative App options are there, but then Optical doesn't work. I always have USB-2 plugged into the PC so that I can use my headset mic.
will you be releasing a video about the yanyin canon 2 soon ?
SB G8 with Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro x good for gaming or do you recommend another dac for 900 pro x?
I can easily drive DT770 pro(80 ohm) with X3.
You can easily drive it with G8.
Creative makes good hardware but their software is bad. If you have any softwareless dacs available to you, buy them.
Hello,,
Can somebody tell me ,why the Usb-c 2 at the G8 fells quiet then the Usb-c1 ,on Ps5 with VoiceMix ???The Soundsetup from Ps5 are on Max Level!!is it a Softwareproblem?
Can you tell me your headphones settings for ps5
Will the G8 work with Xbox Series X? Currently using the PC38X and an Astro Pro Amp…… Looking for an upgrade. Thoughts anyone?
It should work if you use the HDMI Arc from your tv to the DAC.
Can you set up chat mixing on pc for discord and whatever game you are playing like the x4 and gc7?
Watching now as I have had this DAC for about a week now, but have been having trouble with the mic monitoring being slightly delayed. When using the GC7 I have no delay at all. The G8 in direct mode has no delay, but then users in games and such cannot hear me (Which I believe is to be expected).
Ok looks like I just need to use both/two USB Cables for direct mode to work...which is definitely different than the GC7. Kind of bizarre.
I have tested the device. There was a noise at my iems. Did anyone else notice that? I have now bought a 2 and will still test it. It can't be because of my pc, because I have an expensive dac and there is no noise
What's a good mixamp and headphones for xbox im sick of steel series crap I've spent over 350 on them they are terrible.
a bit of help please - i am thinking of buying a vzr model one headphone for my son and need to find a great DAC/amp that is a plug and play combo for his gaming. His rig is Alienware 4090 etc. its pretty jacked up. I grabbed a wooting keyboard yesterday and since he is now a pro gamer i need to upgrade his audio. His B day in jan 18th so can anyone help and make any suggestions please - a bit of time sensitivity. Happy New Year and TY in advance
I have FX v2 , there is s big différence with this ???
I didn't understand if I can connect a USB microphone... if I can connect the USB microphone, can I make a direct monitor to hear my voice in real time?
so for kiwi orchestra lite iems, would your recommend this or the fiio k11
I have the same question.
Fun video!
I hate that all these DAC/headphone amps don’t work with Xbox usb. You always have to extract audio.
What do you think is the best setup for Xbox? It’d be fun to see console specific videos.
Thank you very much for the review! Really appreciate your content. I am torn between the G8 and Gunnr and also not sure what would be best to power the ATH-R70x Refine headphones I have on pre-order
Gunnr easily. Google both. This is underpowered compared to it. And it’s not that much more.
@@drittz5470 It is in europe. G8 150€ and gunnr 329€
@@drittz5470It is in europe. G8 150€ and gunnr 329€
It's a bummer that the device doesn't have a mic mute... Can this be solved with an Y splitter, so i can just plug it out when i want to be mute myself? Will i loose mic/sound quality by doing this?
PS5 controller has a mute button for mic. If you’re holding the controller, nothing easier than pressing a button.
@@TheRealSupraVision Thats nice but i'm on pc bro
Is there a good DAC to use with XBOX X ?
can i plug my usb c mic in to this
