I remember John Olerud with the Blue Jays. He was fantansic man. That 1993 season! Hitting .363? Wow! Finishing with a World Series ring! Rickey was also on that Blue jays team as well.

Glad Olerud told the Helmet Story
With Olerud it wasn't about the money on him leaving the Mets He just wanted to be close to his family in The Pacific Northwest
Olerud was a great hitter and should be given Consideration for Cooperstown he was a 2 time World Champion with Toronto
Jay as a lifelong Mets and as a 2nd Generation of a 4 Generation Family of Mets fans these are great presentations and hopefully this will teach the younger Mets fans about the great history of the Mets franchise
    Happy Holidays to all
Rickeys passing is still shocking everyone
    Condolences to the Henderson family

I've been crying off and on all afternoon. We lost a real life legend. Rickey was my favorite player of all time, from a list of all time Mets, George Brett, Nolan Ryan, and Bo Jackson. Rickey was the reason I decided to play the sport as a kid. I'm so glad everyone has nothing but good stories to tell about him. Rest in Power, Rickey!

He put in the work to be a versatile player which helped his longevity too. His .401OBP + 1400+SB & 2295 runs scored (an all time record as well) makes him one of the first players you draft on an all-time greats team (keeping in mind you draft to WIN not to express favorites).

Im 45 and I grew up watching Rickey in his prime during the 80's and 90s. Being born and raised in Baltimore I got to see Rickey play many times when the As, yankees came to play the Orioles. He was the first player that I remember having real swagger. I remember hearing that he never lifted a weight in his life..... only did pushups and calisthenics

I always suspected that rickey/olerud story was more apocryphal than accurate cuz everyone says what a great and caring guy/teammate rickey was - well if that’s the case then how would he forget one of his teammates who had such a unique circumstance like olerud? So I kinda suspected it was more urban legend than fact

Turk and Henderson had a beef in 1999. Turk then had to aplogize. I remember Henderson was dominant in the 1999 NLDS against Arizona. Rickey also was a major impact on Roger Cedeno. The 1999 Mets was a really good team.

In 2008, I went to AZ spring training and visited several camps including the A's. It was February so there were no games yet. We got to watch coaching drills which I enjoyed because I was an athlete too. I was sitting on some benches close to the field listening to Rickey talking to players about how to takeca lead off a base, how to get a jump to steal. He was pretty technical with his instruction. This reporter saw me listening intently and asked me who was that guy. I looked at him shocked, because there was no mistaken Rickey Henderson. His body was ondeed chiseled like Turk said. He wore his uniform tight and truly was a specimen of athletic perfection.
Pneumonia is not a simple illness. Anyone can get it because it's an infection and once you get it, you're always susceptible. Be very careful to follow doctor's orders and definitely get proper medication to kill that infection because it doesn't go away on its own. I know, I've had Pneumonia twice.

'99 METS, a great bunch of Guys, the last three with Pittsburgh, Game 163, TANK'S DINGER, and then almost upsetting MADDUX, GLAVINE and SMOLTZ to make it to the Fall Classic. Still the 99 METS softened ATL up for the JANKEES because after the METS wore out the Braves in Games 5 and 6, ATL promptly got swept in four Games and looked extremely meek and weak in doing so. That 99 NLCS GAME GIVE 5 at SHEA in a constant drizzle at the end with Dunston fouling pitch after pitch until getting a hit to start the Grand Slam Single Rally. I can still hear Costa saying "Back to GEORGIA" as Ventura's ball sailed over the RF Fence. And we got to hear Rickey's name over the PA at Shea for the home team, wearing #24. Amazin.

I had heard that the Olerud helmet story was made up. I suspect, like Yogi stories, that Rickey stories are either made up or embellished. I believe both Yogi and Rickey liked those stories as they just add to their legend.

It's obvious what you're alluding to, and perhaps understandably, but Ricky was always a specimen his entire career and a relentless worker. His physique didn't suddenly explode in an off season, his head didn't grow 3 hat sizes in a year. In all the usage of steroids of that era, I never heard one person accuse Ricky of being on PED's.. We've all met people in our lives who were natural freaks of nature. Ricky was one of those people.

I would like to know what caused the lackadaisical, absence of hustling for catchable < average fly balls while playing for The NY Mets. It was like a passive aggressive "protest" against the team. He had a bad experience with the Yankees Front Office or Coaches. Reggie Jackson was badly disrespected on so many levels, and though Billy Martin and "Herr" Steinbrenner had their publicity stunt "Hire,Fire,re Hire and Refire , 'Abbott and Costello ' game with The New York City "Rags"/Tabloids, With the "Columnists" (The Sports Newly created "Sportsman Gossip ") especially devoted the Back Page as Full of Manutre as the front page was reserved as a Woman's Rumor mill "I told you so." The Sports World, where the men would talk shop and smack and The Women didn't understand what was so important about winning "That dreadful pennant." and on to The ChiSox, then The BoSox, after The Marlins won, and Diamondbacks beat Goliath and Finally "Dem CUBS" 🐻... ANYWAY RIP "Ricky Henderson " . You were misunderstood. Fast on your feet, bat, could swipe a base with the though *Lou Brock held the record on a higher level + Civil rights violations, ask Jackie, Hank, Curt Flood, Reggie Jackson, and The Big Man HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JACK JOHNSON 🥊💪🏿👑...
