Your videos ring truer than 99% of the shit that out here. I’m from the Bronx so I know the struggle but I’m just inspired by the fact you still grinding out there in Queens. I bounced to FL and I myself been an artist for over a decade so much respect to you for what you do brotha. Keep going!
Peace my bro; appreciate the comment. Glad the journey could be of inspiration for you. That’s why we do this. Thank you my bro. Blessings! 💯🫡❤️🔥
In 2000 a friend bought an ASR 10, I was so fascinated by this machine I spent my whole time in front of it, a year after the ASR was mine. In 2004 I bought the MPC 2000. I love the MPC for his sequencer and of course the pads, but I was really getting busy on chopping samples on the ASR.
Long story short…
All I have left is my turntables and a tonne of floppy disks, watching your setup makes me emotional 🥲
That was a dope time to have owned those pieces. What happened to them? Do you still have them? thanks for rocking with the channel and vibing with me! 💯❤️🔥🫡
damn man, hopefully you get to load those disks back up and pull those gems off.
Broooo you dont understand how much inspiration your videos give me I’m an 17 year old kid who’s tryna make sum out of himself from the music he loves and ur videos give me motivation keep it up bro ❤❤❤❤
Yooooo! This really made my night bro; that’s the only goal with this; to inspire the youth to go after their dreams. If you never quit you will never fail. Keep going after your dreams and always seek more knowledge. I’m keep creating too; you inspire me with sharing this. Thank you bro ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Facts I’m 17 to so what are you tryna do music or producing
Keep going! 💯@@JoeMama-vt6pv
ASR has the better sound and the MPC has the better sequencer. Match made in Heaven. This was a dope video bro. Respect the process.
You hit the nail! 💯 thanks for rocking with me; appreciate you 🙏🏽❤️🔥
Absolutely beauty of a video. Well done!
Appreciate this; thank you for tuning in! 🙏🏽❤️🔥
The RC20 my guy!!!!
@@XMCNASTYXBEATSX 🙌🏽
Fire video! I don't people understand how hard this is, and the art and creativity that goes into tracks. ❤
Appreciate you 🤞🏽🙏🏽❤️🔥
We are definitely one family :)
For sure my bro 💯🫡
Hello Freeplay - new subscriber, Alfred (adiblasi) here. I watched your video last night. It struck a chord (no pun intended) and I really enjoyed your voiceover work relating to your creative process. Absolutely inspiring, and I'm very glad you created this video! A sincere 'thank you' and a wave hello from south Florida. Looking forward to watching more of your content and listening to your musical creations.
Hey Alfred thanks for this wholesome message. I appreciate you taking the time to write this and glad the video was of inspiration to you. 🙏🏽❤️🔥
@@freeplaysamples On a side note, I no longer feel guilty on taking multiple hits of coffee. Now, if I can just pull back a bit on those Vitamin B-12 gummies...
😅
Got a 3k ASR 950.
You making me wanna turn off the Mac.
Fania all stars owned Latin music in NYC .
Black radio played them heavy.
Back when Puerto Ricans lived in New York.
I’m from the Bronx.
Black Bronx but I miss Puerto Rican culture.
As a kid I used to walk by the park on my way somewhere.
You could hear the congas for blocks.
But when you stood right in front of them it was like thunder.
They’d be all calm.
Sweating heavy.
Drinking brew.
Red eyes.
No day job.
Living life slow.
They’d watch me as I watched them.
They could tell I was musical.
No mic pure acoustics.
I can still feel it when I remember.
Didn’t know a word they were saying but who cares. I got it.
Lyrics were secondary.
There was no singer they’d be singing with each other.
Your video hypnotized me.
It got me writing in your voice 😂
Damn dude, this gave me chills reading it! and that's your voice! pen go crazy my bro! Wow. Also, you got a beast set up there. I would love to own a 3000 one day and have never tried any of the AKAI rack samplers but that 950 is legendary for sure. Definitely keep cooking on those; you have every traditional Hip Hop producer's dream pieces! 🙏🏽💯❤️🔥
@@freeplaysamples
Thanks my dude!
Funny…
I been wanting a 2k XL.
It has this metallic sound that I like. Never touched one.
Biggest selling MPC EVER!
All the best bro!
Your video put me in a whole nother head space.
Had to pull over on 125st to hit you.
Sub you 4 sho!
If anyone's looking for a ASR-88 I have one in mint condition
@@kysheemremix 88 key ASR 10? I don’t remember those.
Really good format. Hope you keep on the grind.
Thanks for rocking with me; will try my best to continue adding value 🙏🏽💯
Loved the video dude, the vlog in itself i really beautiful too! Keep up the good work!
Yooo I appreciate that for real homie! 💯
Awesome man I appreciate you for sharing this. I am also on ASR10 + couple more samplers plus analog gear. Really inspiring, thank you
appreciate you for stopping by and checking out the channel. what other gear or samplers you rocking with your ASR? hope to see you around the channel 🙏🏽💯🫡
The original Kanye combination still works to this day. The ASR and ten on the 2KXL all going into an analogue mixer and that's a big sound. In my opinion it beats the sound of the new MPCs hands down
Word! Kanye was definitely my inspiration when I was searching for a set up to get and lock in with. Once I got these two samplers I’ve locked in and haven’t looked back ever since. Definitely feel like I found my “forever” instruments. Don’t even look at the newer stuff at all or miss having any of it.
@@freeplaysamples you have earned my subscription my friend as I agree with you full 💯. I'll be getting an ASR to go with my XL to give me that option but I currently use a 3000 and a Moog Sub37, Dre style, and a Korg Prologue along with a Rhodes mark I and a Yamaha SK30 for my own trademark sound. Keep up the great work. I'm really enjoying your channel. Onwards and upwards my friend. Bless
Thanks for the sub and welcome to the family 🙏🏽💯 you got some fire pieces; I dream of having a 3000 (maybe one day God willing). I had a subsequent 37 and unfortunately had to sell to
pay studio rent last year. I regret selling a lot of equipment trying to keep a studio running. Everything I have left I’m holding on tight too. You’re going to love the ASR when you get it. Keep creating and lmk where I can check your music. 🙏🏽❤️🔥💯
Yeah, I kind of understand that Ye still uses it today and all the time during Donda sessions, etc. Anyway, that machine has something special about it. I have been using ASR-10 for 4 years. Some time ago, I also bought an ASR-X, it's a beast. Better than ASR10 in many ways. But the workflow is better on 10. I sequence in ASR or directly record audio in Ableton and edit there. I don't save work on samplers at all, it forces me to finish the thing. No Save no Undo. The previous owner gave me a SCSI card for the ASR-10 and all the libraries that were produced for ensoniq, a small treasure. BTW. I also have gottek emulator there, but scsi is super fast for loading samples. Personally, I think the main advantage of a sampler like ASR is simplicity and limited options. All the best!
@@johnclawfinger You are what I would call a General in music. Your arsenal and your workflow is quality. I don't save my work on my samplers either. I have to finish the work and export it before I switch off so it has to be finished. Your pieces you have told me about are all quality and you record it to the most versatile DAW. I use Logic as my DAW is just a tape recorder to me but we share the same principles. All this means is the sound is great and we can finish an album project fast. No Save no Undo. Finish that now at this sitting. Storage memory doesn't mean anything to me. It has no advantage. It's actually a hinderance. So is too many sounds. I prefer to put in what I want to use and once it's finished and I switch off it's gone. Next, and no half finished projects or loops that need to be arranged.
Keep up the great work Bless and all the best to you too. One Love
Cool video concept!
Thank you. Appreciate it! 💯🫡
When you said the Fania All Stars and I heard the first sample you were playing I knew you had the joints love your choice of gear too I love ❤️ my 2KXLtoo.
Let’s go! Thanks for tuning in family. That 2kXL is like a lifelong best friend 💯

My old classic set-up in my parents crib. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Love these two samplers; you still got them? Thanks for checking out the video 🙏🏽
@@freeplaysamples Sold the ASR 10 years ago. Still got my trusty XL. Fully loaded with all the EFX board, 32mb ram, 8-Analog out and FMX008M Flash Rom.
@@ONEHENDRIX oh okay fire that you still got the XL; mine has the 8 outs and max memory. I just replaced a couple of tact switches this weekend. I been wanting that EFX board and you just put me onto the Flash ROM; that's dope. 3 of my 8 outs are a bit scratchy as well; might solder some new ones in if contact cleaner don't fix it. My MPC was a gift from another producer friend of mine; so I'm not complaining and been fixing it up throughout the years; I've had it for like 8-9 years now. Do you miss your ASR? I can't see myself ever getting rid of any of these samplers.
@@freeplaysamples The FMX008 board is a must have, since you work like you work.
I’m keep an eye out for it. They seem difficult to come across but definitely on my wish list now 💯
I feel you when you said going back to a sampler because it inspires alot, myself i've been working on beats since 2 years ago, still learning every day or with every beat i make, nice job man, keep it up ✌️ Grtz from a Belgian Hiphop Beatmaker
That’s dope bro. Do you also use samplers? 🏆
@@freeplaysamples Currently working alot on my MPC One , i posted a video of my work awhile ago on my channel, if you want, you can always check and let me know what you think of it :) it's also in the boom bap genre ✌️
Fire bro I’m going to check that out 💯
If You choose to go back I have a ASR 88 for sale
Love the process yo - great minds think alike 🫡💯💯💯
Peace my G! Appreciate you; saw your video on the 2500 and limitations. Great minds think alike for sure. Keep creating and striving for greatness 💯❤️🔥🙏🏽
@@freeplaysamples 💯💯💯
Yo Freesplay mad skills
What’s up Doc?! Keep killing it my bro! Appreciate you tuning in 💯
Lovin it bro keep da heat turnt up on em 😡😡😡🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪
Let’s get it bro! 🏆
Salute bruh, I be in the same ish. Copped a MPC live II and only used it a hand full of times. I Keep going back to the 2000xl. I can’t help myself it’s what I learned on and it’s painful dealing with the new MPC work flow. Keep grinding. 👊🏽
If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Premier still be on his 60ii; and Alchemist never really upgraded from a 2500 from what I can see. When you find what works; lock in and don’t look back. Remember, these companies want to make money off of our gear lust and making “retro” looking versions. Trying to learn the new workflow and spending hours downloading updates and plug ins can often kill your creative process and valuable time you could’ve been creating on a better sounding 2000XL. Thanks for rocking with me 💯🙌🏽
Damn G , clicked on this randomly, super dope video, extra points for the moka pot.
Thank you. This was very improvised and unplanned. I’m glad it has connected with a lot of people. That coffee pot is my mom’s and it’s the only way I know how to and like to have coffee. Appreciate the comment. ❤️🔥💯
I dig your process in this video
Thanks for rocking with me bro 💯

the kanye west special right there man. theres a reason he still uses one !
Legendary combo for sure 🙏🏽💯 thanks for tuning in 🫡
@@freeplaysamples oh yeah for sure bro ! Got a sub from me ! I seen on instagram timbaland has started using his some just for his drums pairing it with abelton. And jake one still on it as well ! Just has that special sound too it !
Yeah, there’s nothing like it in my opinion. It’s also a joy to use now that I’m more familiar with the workings of the sampler and an important part of my creative process. Thanks for the sub! 🙏🏽
Just got into hardware and hip hop, haven’t really done anything yet … so far have the mpc60, emax 1 rack, eps-m rack, s950 and a few outboard effects, trying to work out how I want to route things.. maybe record into the daw and then out to cassette or reel.. trying to work it out
Well you're off to an amazing start with those pieces you have; definitely don't need anything else. I would start by focusing on each one individually before thinking too much on how to put it all together. Sometimes I work on my XL by itself and other times the ASR by itself. When I had both in the beginning, I wasted a lot of energy trying to figure out how to make them work together. Later, I realized it's best to focus on each one individually and try to master them. Along the way, it will click on when to bring the other pieces into your process. Hope this helps somehow and thanks for checking out the channel. Personally, I would start on the 60 just to rock out with some drums on the pads and take it from there. Once you master those pieces your sonics are going to be crazy! 🤯💯❤️🔥
I GOT SAME THING ASR10 RACK AND MPC2000XL #DOPE #INSPIRATION
You got everything you need to make legendary music; salute homie 🫡💯
that boz scaggs record has that one mf doom loop
That’s a dope peep! 🫡 thanks for rocking with me! ❤️🔥💯
ASMR beatmaker , bro very nice vid !
😅 thanks for checking out the channel and rocking with me. Appreciate you 💯🙏🏽🫡❤️🔥
I have both of these ASR 88 and a mPC 2000 XL. I want to sell the ASR-88
Thanks for checking out the vid! 💯 That’s fire; the 88 is a beast with weighted keys I believe. Why do you want to sell it?
@@freeplaysamples I have multiple machines and I don't use it anymore.
It's pristine, No worn out letters or wear and tear on the keys It was basically being triggered by MPC 2000 XL
Word I hear that. I got rid of a lot of gear I wasn’t using but, mostly because I needed to financially. If you’re decided on selling it, try the Ensoniq Users group on facebook. I don’t think I would sell the XL or the ASR 10 even though I have gone long periods of time without using them. I always come back and find new reasons to appreciate them that I didn’t see before. If you can afford it financially and space-wise give it a chance but, you should be able to find an ASR 10 easily if you get rid of the 88. Appreciate you rocking with the channel 💯🙏🏽
shoot man if your up too selling it i really have been thinking about getting me one hit me if you see this. I would be super interested !@@kysheemremix
a young man tired and burned out ? ok lol
😂😂😂 this comment takes it; how old do you think I am? lol
i cant listen to the beat while you talking, this is annoying.
Thanks for the feedback. Will try to do better on the next video. 🙏🏽💯🫡
