Dear Dr Paul, I’m so looking forward to CGC validating your grade estimates, especially, for Tales to Astonish book. You really have a nice lot there you’re submitting. Very exciting. I’m going to have to submit some of my work to CGC at some point. I did once on a Batman 222 book and it came back restored label (they say color touch which I don’t do but perhaps the previous owner - I’m going to crack the case and double check everything and resubmit it). It was my fault not to include a list of repair work. Hearing Erika say “we love that” gives me hope in future submissions!

Thanks! I’ll be getting them back in four shipments so I should have several unboxing videos. Yeah CGC are human, they make mistakes occasionally just like we do and sometimes you need to resubmit. 🤷‍♂️ I figure it’s just part of collecting in 2023.

What a submission! Every book has its own story to follow!

I’ve been working on creating a narrative with my content creation-hopefully that is coming through. A big part is being smart in selecting your projects I think. These will all be fun to unbox. Need to get started on the video series for that Hulk 180 while I wait for the rest of these to get graded.

Thanks for the video. Are you ever concerned that you'll lose your grade on REHOLDER which obviously would impact equity? Do you assess that risk and if so, how? I have a few 9.9s and other fairly highly graded books or rare books with lower grades, but all with cracked cases (slight) and the books seem quite unaffected by the cracks, and yet CGC has the right to and apparently will regrade REHOLDER submissions.

Great question STKA, with these books i was not worried. I actually discussed them with Matt Nelson and he re-affirmed CGC's written policy on the matter: "The grade assigned to the book should not change, unless any damage occurred post-encapsulation, in which case the grade will be adjusted accordingly."
This essentially means that unless it was run over by a car and they can see the inner well was bent in half, or the entire slab was immersed in water and you can see the water damage, or left on display in the sun and was bleached out, your book will not be re-graded. With these particular books, all of the labels and inner wells were in perfect shape, so i had zero concern that they would be re-graded.

@@DrPaulKosnik Thanks, again. Your language-- "unless it was run over by a car and they can see the inner well was bent in half .. . .," etc.--is far more helpful than the official line provided (to me on several occasions) by CGC, if that's how they proceed. The problem is that they have to review the book to see if "any damage occurred post-encapsulation." If they look for book damage caused ONLY by harm to the case or the inner well then I'm all in. My concern is that they will look for book damage, full stop, whether caused by harm to the case/or inner well or not. But how could they know whether that damage was already there and already assessed by the original grader or whether it was post-encapsulation damage? Given the subjectivity in grading, this is my concern--it's sort of an invitation for the new grader to re-do the original grader's work without necessarily knowing if the defects are post-encapsulation or not. (Maybe they should just give all reholders the original grades with a case note saying it has been reholdered. After all, CGC grades are never guaranteed, even by CGC!, once books leave their premises.) Oh well.
