As a young child growing up there when going out to play in the bushes we always had to bring a 5ft long stick that had a noose at the end which is used to strangle snakes just incase we ran into something dangerous...

It belongs to a different genus within Elapidae called Ophiophagus while true cobras belong to the genus Naja. Based on a 2016 study of the phylogeny of extant snakes based on DNA both genuses are offshoots from the same common lineage however the Naja offshoots 6 levels down the line while Ophiophagus only 2, and Ophiophagus' parent also offshooted into the Mambas (which can also flatten their head into a hood, albeit not as distinctive) essentially making them closest living relatives.

@@TrippyOriginals Depends on the size of the snakes. Also, king snakes have no resistance against the venom of elapids like cobras and mambas so they would be screwed. Let's say a king snake and king cobra of the same size would attack each other for the sole purpose of eating, the winner would most likely be the one that manages the bite the neck/head of the other one first.
