  • This video shares the first 33km of my 75km ride at the Ride for Heart 2019 event. During this event, the city closes the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway, and people who are registered get to ride their bikes on either a 25km, 50km or 75km route. Later in the day there is also a 5km walking event. This event is the only opportunity in the year when you are allowed to ride your bike or walk on these restricted highways.
The bike I was riding is a non-folding Linear Limo Recumbent Bike. I filmed this using my new Yi 4K+ action camera mounted to the main frame tube of the bike at the front using a custom 3d printed plastic bracket. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone.

Those seat welds should have been welded front and back of that thin.... I'm guessing 1/8th thick aluminum plating where it met the tubing and flared out for strength, when you get someone to re-weld your seat tell them that you want them harder alloy mig wire or tig filler rod that has a higher tensile strength. nice to see the Don Valley from a cyclist perspective.

Thank you CJ. Do you usually ride in a lot of these bike events?

This is the only event of this kind that I do each year. Most other events I participate in are in support of bike advocacy efforts.

This was awesome, I'm an avid cyclist i live in a small town in york region and and cycle about 100k a week, wish I knew more about upcoming events like this. I definitely would love it. I always seem to find out about these events when it's too late.

Ride for Heart is an annual event and the date for next year is Sunday June 7th, 2020. During the month of June there are lots of cycling events that go on because it's Bike Month. The bike month website had events listed all across the GTA so I would check that out next year. Another great resource (though specific to Toronto) is the Cycle Toronto mailing it. I would recommend signing up (it's free).

How about a cane seat or find someone who makes snowshoes? They could weave you a solution. Canoe seats and snowshoes can last many years without fail...

Wouldn't it be amazing if there's a elevated bikeway like elevated highway? Would be great if TO could just implement the embarrassingly long 10-year bike lane plan.

I thought it was a race. It looked like that with all those helmets and race clothing.
Here as there is a bike tour, you see city bikes with people on it in their daily clothing without helmets. You see many groups of people that ride togheter.
There where you ride, I see a lit of solo cyclists.
I see that the roads are placed higher. I thought it was a bridge, but it kept staying high.

If I'm not mistaken, helmets are mandatory for this event. Did you listen to the audio? The road at the beginning is the Gardiner Expressway which is an elevated highway.

That looks like fun but that climb up the DVP scares me.
