I never rlly saw a movie like this but i do luv where it took a big turn on the end when the girl, morino was actually the younger sister and the OLDER sister was the one that got killed. But most importantly, I luv movies that have quality like this and pls tell me if there is any other movies like this !
You can try to find more movies by the same director, Gen Takahashi, and there are some other Japanese horror films that have a similar vibe, but I've really never found any other movie quite like this.
From India...I love reading Japanese literature and I read the original novel by Otsuichi and I learnt that there was a film adaptation of the novel as well...the film is decent but I would recommend you to read the novel and also the other books written by the author specially 'Zoo' and 'Summer fireworks and my corpse'

Hi! The way he figured out who the culprit was is mostly revealed in his discussion with the cafe owner. First, it was by process of elimination, from the people who were at the cafe the day they found the journal, then the fact that he went out in the rain looking for it, as he knew the ink was easily washed away with water. And about Morino, he guessed a switch happened due to the scars on her wrist from the suicide attempt. He correctly deduced that a cruel bully would not have the self-reflection and guilt to ever attempt suicide, so he guessed that Morino was in fact the more gentle sister, masquerading as the vicious one.
There are no other movies like this, at least none that I've found. If you're into Japanese horror, The Ring has somewhat of a similar vibe, but it's more action-oriented whereas Goth is a very calm film. Other calm-creepy movies might be The VVitch, The Lighthouse, Shadow of the Vampire, and The Ninth Gate.

When they were playing the hanging game Yoru's rope snapped. Yu panicked and tried to help but she really couldn't do anything. From then on Yu pretended to be Yoru but by doing so she lost her identity and couldn't find her place in her home. Overcome by grief or remorse she attempted suicide by cutting her wrist in middle school.Kamiyama deduced that a bully wouldn't try to kill one self due to guilt and came to the conclusion that Yu was the one that lived.
