Wasp protection with a trimmer - that's a video I'd like to see. :D Thank you for your video - clear concise and covers all the essentials. I've been strimming for a while, but never thought to see if I was doing it correctly until now; thankfully I don't seem to have fallen into any bad habits. Here in France, I'd say most lawns are about 50% grass, and 50% 'weeds', we don't have quite the same approach to lawn care, but once cut and trimmed, it still looks pretty good!
um been doing lawns for a while, couple of suggestions when your edging walk back words instead of the way your going, you should get a better result. when going around your pine needle bed slightly turn your trimmer head in towards the bed and walk back words so that you get a better groomed look and the trimmer will blow the clippings out into the lawn instead of into the needles. after a while it will build up and look bad. while edging also walk back words it will give you a cleaner look. good video for the most part. also when trimming the long grass start at the edge and weed whip sso that the grass is being blown out at you to clear a path for the next swipe and allow the grass somewhere to go.

idk about the last one. I use the weed wacker in a different angle to not only get it done, but to prevent rocks from from f me up. I learned the hard way lol

I think down south where you are, the grass doesn’t grow quite as thick and tall as the best you up here, and the trimmings aren’t quite so extensive. I watched your video yesterday about the client that ran you around town for $44, and I absolutely loved it. Please make more videos like that. I really love your channel. I got out of the lawn care, I have a handful of fertilization clients that I keep because their old school, I only do landscaping now. But, there are so many similarities with what we do, I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks
I just commented this…that little stuff like tossing the clippings the right direction saves on clean up time. And when your at the max customers you can take the only thing you can do is become more efficient with your time.
Removing the guard and extending the trimmer line (from 7" to 8-11") reduces the RPM's and increases the engine heat. You'll shorten the life of your trimmer. Not to mention a lot more grass & debris flying.
I don't totally agree with removing the guard especially with someone trying to learn. With the guard and cutter on the string will remain the same length all the time or at least 95% of the time so you know where the end of the string is and you become more efficient. If it is removed the string can keep going out whenever somebody accidentally hits a root or the ground then it spools more string out and you don't know where the end is. Plus those are designed to cut a certain amount with the horsepower you have. An extra two inches on your line bogs the motor down significantly. Once you become a seasoned professional I can see maybe taking it off if you want to but I've tried it and I don't like it it doesn't save any time for me and it does prevent some pebbles when you're you are edging from nailing you in the forehead or the eyes. Just my opinions.
I love weed whacking but I sometimes wonder if a good sharp scyth would work better, I operate my whacker with no gaurd thing on it with about 10" - 1' of line out. Works well. Now Im trying to learn how to use thick wire instead of plastic string
My trimmer has the kind of head where I have to cut 2 pieces of string and insert them into the head, and every time a string snaps or wears down, I have to cut a new piece and replace it. Not a super fan of that, but at least the strings never jam inside the head?
My customers hate when I trim because I always trim much lower than the grass is mowed. Is there anything I can do??? it's probably because im only like 5'6 so I naturally hold it lower to the ground.
how do y'all trim around small drains in a lawn? i have french drains that have 6 inch drains in my yard and they are hard to trim around. they are a few inches below the level of the lawn. you can't use a string trimmer to trim around them because they are round and too small.

I’ve been trimming for approx 28 years, same no guard but new to the speed feed heads with 2 strings. We used to use the echos (lasted 2 seasons) and just the standard bump head one string. I’m enjoying the two string 450 speed feed on my Honda.
I noticed your gas eater bogging in the thick grass, I’ve got a 40v battery powered Ryobi that would tear thru that like it was a fluffy cloud… well, okay, maybe not exactly like that but you get it. The only downside is the battery, if your mobbing deep it only lasts 10-15 min or so and extra batteries are 45$ each. Surprised the hell outta me for a battery powered weed whackeroff.
I never take my guard off mainly because I don’t like my string too long and plus it prevents debree from flying into my face especially if the guard is large like On the Husqvarna, Stihl and Maruyama trimmers and also question, why is it that the engine sounds quieter when they don’t have the guard on because that’s one of the main things that Iv noticed when a string trimmer doesn’t have the guard on

Man, I don't know how you can stand to use those D handle strimmers. I have one and absolutely hate it. I've cannibalised an old strimer with bull horns and fit them to it. It's my back up but man I couldn't for the life of me get it adjusted to be comfortable. 10 mins was the most I could do with it. So.e of my strimmer jobs are 3 hour stints.
Another pro tip. Never remove the guard. If you want the line a little bit longer (I do), just remove the little cutting blade. Then there's no need to remove the guard. Yes, perhaps a little extra junk flies around because the line tip is past the edge of the guard, but it still stops most of it.
Be careful when you extend your line past the cut off point. If your 2 stroke line trimmer is Labouring you will burn out your clutch. This happened to me .
@@davidbonwick5103 That's true, but I think 2cm past the guard is still ok. It's only a small amount but it makes a big difference. Any longer than that though and you can really hear the strain. I've seen RUclips videos of "pros" with the line about 30-40cm long. Besides the clutch issues you talk about, it doesn't even cut well when the line is that long.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
Guard keeps line at the correct length so you don't stress your little engine. Amateurs everywhere. You keep strimming around trees and smashing the cambium layer not me.
Skill #1 getting the bitch to run right! (pro tip buy the carb tuning tools off amazon) Skill #2 dont try and mix your fuel (buy the mix for newer trimmers)

When I do a flat trim around the bed are usually go to my left to avoid throwing the clippings in the bed. Love the video
I can see that as a good strategy. Sometimes I throw the mulch or pine straw out of the bed that way. I guess there are pros and cons to each method

Level the trimmer at the same height of the grass. You need to also blend the the trimmed grass to the mowed grass.

That is the main reason. Also, it helps me to see better when edging. The cons are it may void your warranty and put more strain on the trimmer

10-15 minutes? How long does a charge take? Not sure it's worth it for the extra risk from having a lithium ion battery that could go Krakatoa

Probably part of the noise from the head of the trimmer echoes off the guard making it louder. That's Just my guess

How can you be a pro with out the guard on. Protects the operator. Helps as a cutting guide around trees and keeps line at correct length.
