What's the time? Let's learn how to tell time in Dutch. One tricky thing is to tell half and the hour.

This channel is made to learn Dutch for English speakers. By learning Dutch with videos, you'll learn basic Dutch pronunciation, by learning it online with many Dutch phrases and Dutch words. We'll also see basic Dutch grammar as well as tips on how to speak Dutch. The accent used is from Belgium, so it's Belgian Dutch, which is also understood in the Netherlands.

How very pleasant your voice is.
Thanks!
Thank you Alain ❤️
I know you're teaching Belgian Dutch. In NL, 10:31 would be "een over half elf" (one over half eleven) similar to the way you said "een na half elf" (one after half eleven) - it's the most common way to say it, even though you said it's not common. People do not say it's tien uur eenendertig (10:31) ... AT ALL, at least not in the Holland region of the Netherlands. If you say it people will understand, but if you ask them the time ... they will never say the "digital time", as you call it. Just in case people are learning "standaard Nederlands" they probably should know this. I've found time-telling to be one of the more complicated things about Dutch (at least standard Dutch) because they tell the time in terms of mathematical calculations ... and there's very little information about it online.
U bent de beste docent in de wereld , bedankt voor alles 🙏🙏🙏.
groetjes
En bedankt voor je commentaar!
erg bedankt 🌹🌹
Oh mijn schatje leraar! Dankuwel 😍
I’ve been learning for 2 weeks. Best I can do is tell you the exact hour. I can tell you if it’s 11 I can’t tell you if it’s 11 03 and definitely can’t tell you if it’s 11 18
i really like Your classes. Good Job
Glad to hear that
Dit is heel goed! Dank u wel, dit heb mij heel veel geholpen.
Graag gedaan!
Bedankt
16:10 tien over zestien
8:45 kwart voor negen
11:10 tien over elf
18:08 acht over achttien
6:40 tien over half zeven
22:32 twee over half dierentwintig
Dankjewel. Je bent erg duidelijk. Wanneer moet ik over en na gebruiken? Of kan ik ze door elkaar gebruiken? Dankjewel! 😊
In België wel, in Nederland gebruiken ze 'over'. Meer info: taaladvies.net/taal/advies/vraag/564/

Thanks! I'm Belgian - the Netherlands isn't the only country in which people officially speak Dutch :)

No, you have to drop the 'uur'.

Here's a good overview: www.babbel.com/en/magazine/telling-time-in-dutch
I’ve been learning for almost 2 weeks. I can only tell you the exact hour. I can tell you if it’s 11 o’clock but I can’t tell you if it’s 11 33 nor what part of the day.
