  • This week's episode I'm joined by Haley Pullos. You may know Haley best from her roll as Molly Lansing on General Hospital.
I love talking with our younger generation about mental health because they’re our future in helping to erase the stigma.
Haley and I talk about anxiety, depression, ADHD, the good and bad of social media. We even touch on Britney Spears and our thoughts on what she’s been going through.
You can listen to Haley's podcast, Criminally Insane here: li.sten.to/aasQhFR

Maurice, people need to, have to stop being mean. Period. Building one another up is what we were created to do. Loving. Kind. Caring. Holding one another for a little while; literally and figuratively.
Imagine how, who and where we would be, if we did. God is love!!

This young woman (Haley) was so refreshing. I loved her temperament. Maurice, you are so relaxed in this "role" of interviewer. Your candor and ability to do these conversations on some really deep topics is appreciated. I look forward to seeing more of these interviews even post GH. It is nice to see the human, vulnerable, and personal side of your actor colleagues. It looks like everyone is relaxed and enjoying the format too. It is also nice to share your own stories and insights with others so openly. We don't often see this. Thank you!

I had to come back and rewatch this episode. I am so sad to read now about Haley's DUI arrest. After hearing what she said in this interview, obviously she was more deeply troubled than she revealed here. Too much sadness is swirling around the GH set. We need you more than ever now Maurice. Someone so young, talented and beautiful to end up this way is so awful. I really hope Haley gets the help she needs now...🙏💌

Most of the time, I'd agree, however, she hasn't taken any kind of responsibility.
She basically just said "I had an oopsy and I'm temporarily off the show. I'm okay, just need to heal."
She should have said "I made a lot of mistakes, I'm going into rehab. I'd like to make a public apology to the person I injured after I chose to drive after having a drink."
She then got violent with a firefighter saying "This is a f***ing $400 shirt!" Then got violent with hospital staff, having to be sedated.
Her ego is way too big and I unfortunately don't see her learning from it. It's really a shame because I always loved her.

    • @Spunky1991
      @Spunky1991 Год назад +1

@@TaraConway16 When a person is intoxicated they say a lot of things they don't mean/wouldn't say or do when sober. I don't hold that against her. Nobody is perfect we all make mistakes. I hope this one is a wakeup call for her. I'm sure once she's completed rehab and resolved the legal issues surrounding it she will speak more on it. None of us know her personally or what she's going through. She doesn't have a history of drunk driving so I'm not as judgemental as others are. I'm pulling for her to get the help she needs. And hope ABC stands by her side during this difficult time. Because support is what she needs.

Dear Maurice: This video changed my life. I watch your channel because I'm a huge GH fan, and I've battled depression most of my life, so mental illness is a subject near and dear to my heart. I had no idea when I started watching this interview that Haley would say something that would literally change my world. When she discussed her ADHD and the symptoms, I realized she was describing me. I looked into it, and went for testing with a psychologist, and sure enough, it was confirmed that I do have ADHD, in addition to Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, and Persistent Depressive Disorder. I am now 41 years old, and only just got this diagnosis...because of you and Haley (whom I've watched grow up on screen into a gorgeous young woman, inside and out). I can't tell you how grateful I am for what you're doing. I actually started crying when I thought, "Sonny Corinthos just changed my life." Thank you. And please, tell Haley thank you as well. I feel I owe you both a debt 🙂

General Hospital has been outstanding with the powerful storyline that crafted for their teen cast. It's a well balance i
Of teen angst and first relationships with some heavy duty stuff like the Oscsr and Joslin storyline or the work Elizabeth s kids put in when learning to trust Franco. This show never disappoints. And thanks most of all for Maurice and thus much needed platform.

I hope young women GH, none GH viewers and those who've followed you on here and are going through what Haley has will watch this. Behind that bubbly excited personality is a young woman with a sensitive soul. So true what she said about sticks and stones, some 30 years later and names I was called and the rejections and bullying I faced still leave psychological wounds. I am also Hyper sensitive.. so like Haley said we feel rejection more. There will always be cruel trolling bullies on SM. We know from Twitter how ugly it can get

Haley speaking out about her anxiety is so helpful to young ppl who suffer from it and also about social media of bullying. If someone can’t say something nice they shouldn’t say anything at all I 100% agree with we need to make ppl more aware of the suicide rate among the young people it’s devastatingly out of control they need a safe place to get help and understanding they are not alone. Thank you for bringing so much more awareness of mental health.

This was a great conversation, and I hope more young people step forward to open up. Growing up in I think the last generation before social media, I would have loved the ease of access to information we have now, but I couldn’t imagine navigating the mess of High School with the addition of social media pressures. It’s also great that she talked about women and girls being miss diagnosed. It’s quite common, and something that needs to be addressed more often. My best friend was 29 when she was diagnosed with autism. Thank you for continuing to bring awareness. Your conversations and ability to spread hope and understanding reaches so many, and is truly a blessing.

I’m really glad you had someone on that is talking about adhd in women. Although she touched on Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria there are so many other aspects to it and it often occurs with bipolar. (I am a licensed professional who works with this population) the lead research in this area actually shows the opposite about stimulant medications and addiction. It is a personal preference of course Properly treated early can actually reduce the incidence of developing an addiction partly because it helps with impulse control. Neurodevelopmental differences are a bit different that mental health although they co-occur often. Taking medication for adhd is like taking medication for diabetes. It is good to put the most accurately researched information out there otherwise it can perpetuate a narrative of fear that taking medication for adhd is bad instead of that it can also be life saving for many undiagnosed/diagnosed with adhd. It is often traumatic for women to go through the process of getting adhd medication because it has only previously recognized in boys and men. I have watched it personally and professionally. We need more advocates for women with adhd! Thank you for your service!

I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. When I am in an unfamiliar space or situation where I don't have control, I get triggered. My face gets hot, my heart starts pounding, my hands gets sweaty and shaky, my breathing gets fast and shallow, and I start to cry. I didn't get diagnosed until I was 46, ten years ago. I was in therapy, which helped, from age 26. GAD was not a legitimate diagnosis until the 1980s. Some medical professionals still don't acknowledge GAD as any different from panic attacks. The difference is the feeling of anxiety is present every minute of every day. It is its own distinct and separate mood disorder. Medication changed how I see myself. I am not my illness. I have an illness. When I take my meds, I am able to separate these two truths. Then I am able to name it and tame it. Part of GAD is constant negative self talk. Now I say to myself, " That's just my brain beaking off. An irrational message malfunction. I know who I am, and I can do this." Most days I can, some days I can't, and that's part of the GAD. This constant challenge of managing this nasty head talk is EXHAUSTING. I need a good sleep, 9 hours. And, I also nap most days. What else helps? Pets, exercise, good friends, talking to supportive people who love you. And knowing you're not alone. THANK YOU, MAURICE, for using your platform to share your story. We need you!

@mauriceBenard Thank you for another great interview!! Adhd is another one of those mental health issues with alot of stigma. There has been studies regarding boys who are put on adhd meds like adderall and riddelin who end up addicted to Street drugs like meth. NOT SAYING ALL KIDS END UP THIS WAY..... But opening up the important conversation is so important so Thank you!! My son was diagnosed with adhd and the meds(ritalin) made him like a zombie. They have come a long way since then. It's been 20 years. But I tapered him off the meds and didnt tell the teacher and she was so proud of herself for helping us get him on the medication. Because he was doing so much better in school. I was upfront with his dr. And I dont suggest parents do this. This was before we had the information highway at our fingertips like today. But my son developed anxiety and panic disorders and did have a problem with drugs later on. Luckily he is 3 years in recovery and got professional help. We need to talk more about mental health. Thank you!!❤

Bullying intervention starts at home and it starts when children are old enough to understand. Parents need to teach their children that they're going to meet people who aren't like them. They won't have the same skin color as them; they may not weigh the same as them; they may dress differently and be from a different social class as them; they may be a little slower at learning things or act differently in another way, but in the end, they're still human and it's okay for them to be different. They need to teach them that if they can't say anything nice, then, they shouldn't say anything at all.
However, some adults are bullies, themselves, unfortunately. They talk poorly of others at home and so their child(ren) pick up on this and then, start looking down on people who are different from themselves. So it's important for parents to stop and take a look at themselves and realize the very thing I just said in the above paragraph. This is the only way we're going to end bullying.

I loved the sharing you two did, with the experiences and differences in generations not a reason to fail to communicate with one another. I’m glad the subject of bullying came up. So many kids lives are hurt dramatically from their peers. I think it would be cool to have a few more younger actors on occasion for that perspective. My only problem was that you watch Geraldo, lol...but that’s your choice and not mine to tell you my political lean (bet you can guess!). Keep up the good work!

Getting help from wherever and however you can is absolutely critical. I think anxiety isn't taken seriously (along with some other mental health issues) by society in general. Usually because of all the misconceptions, misinformation and stigmas attached to it. This is why speaking out and doing the work to bring about change is so very important!
In regard to social media, if you are strong enough to monitor yourself and step back when it gets too toxic then it can be a useful thing. But when it starts to bury you (as it was doing to me) I had to cut it out. And what was surprising to me when I did that is, as time went on, I noticed that I really didn't miss it at all. I came to the realization that I had lived the majority of my life without it, so was it really that critical for my well being? The answer was no...💌💌

My 1st episode lasted months until I got help. Lost so much weight.
F.E.A.R. 'False Evidence Appearing Real' got the best of me. I literally could not stay still so I drove from place to place all night long. Like Haley Pullos said,
"she felt like she was dying" Exactly how I felt.

Haley has a beautiful soul. Maurice you have helped me so much and i thank you. People do not understand if they have not been through a traumatic thing in their lives i was diagnosed with P.T.S.D. D.I.D. and bipolar, anxiety depression. i have been on meds since1979. I was held against my will beaten, sexually assaulted for hrs. i was 20 weeks pregnant my injuries were so bad my unborn baby girl didn't make it she died 4 minutes after i got to the ER. in the palms of my hands. There is no expiration date on grief. I will never just get over it seems to me if i was going to just get over it i would of after 43 yrs. i will never ever get over my daughter's murder. And my son overdosed on fentanyl in 2017 we are not supposed to bury our children.

Maurice... When you and Hayley talked about her podcast, I immediately thought of a channel that I really enjoy. Grizzly True Crime on RUclips is hosted by a really classy lady named Gisela. She's from South Africa and now lives in the Netherlands.
She's written 5 books on serial killers including Bundy.
I think you will enjoy her work. She deep dives into these criminals minds and actions.
