You cannot ambush someone with the issues and emotional volatility of DMX in relation to his son without his foreknowledge and buy-in on such a deeply personal level and think it will turn out well?? All for entertainment or whatever the purpose... Why have the young man show up with a laundry list of complaints about his dad and inhibiting his (X's) ability to engage with his son. No ground rules, no mutual consent...no preservation of dignity... That's why this is a profession not a hobby. Respect for Iyanla's technique... ordinarily, but she could not possibly have thought this approach to have been a good idea (springing disgruntled child on a man who she describes as having cursed her for days, which I do not believe for a second, who may or mny not have been under the influence. Ambitious undertaking and pretty much arrogant, if not abusive of, all parties, including herself, to be packaged and presented to a worldwide audience -- abusing us all even further. Talk about your mess show.

@@jusrayne Its caĺled life experiences and learning from them though. I never noticed this lady pretend to be qualified for more than she is. One of my friends went through the same as her and also started life coaching for a couple years now. Its great if they can rise from their own pain and problems. If they learned a lot from their own past

I dealt w/ loved ones -lost due to drugs, I also had to cut off loved ones- their addiction became draining to me, it started to affect me negative, once we decided to have intervention- I will say I have seen & heard a lot worse DMX said, because they do not want the help. I pray from a distance, but it’s a lot different talking to someone high as opposed to sober.

I love how honest Iyanla is... She has no problem with telling it how it is. Her guests only get mad when she calls them on their s***. I wasn't even upset when she called Neffi a "gutter snipe" only because she made the distinction between Neffi and Nefeteria. She never disrespected Nefeteria.
So many, especially Black Women were mad at Iyanla Vanzant over that interview, including myself. It shows, how as Black Women, many of us love to enable Black Men who are addicts. etc.
Some of us really think we are their Saviors, and we are not. Iyanla Vanzant did the right thing, and it was done in Love. His Son Xavier stood up as a Man, in the face of his father. Iyanla Vanzant not deserve that disrespect, I did not know the disrespect went that far. Like she said though, she did not take it personally at all which is beautiful.

I'm so glad Iyanla revealed the truth...DMX struggled with a lot of demons, but he wasn't an angel. I pray he's finally at peace.

DMX never painted himself as an angel. He is where he need to be at peace. DMX saw her BS, you cannot force anyone to do what you want them to. DMX was on that show for his ex wife and family not because he wanted to be fixed or told what to do. That's why he flipped on her like others.

This woman was right on point. Now his wife and family finally got the call that he is dead. That series was intense, powerful and I really hope his son got clarity and healing. Life is short and not guaranteed to no one.
His ex and his son were wrong to treat him like they did. They wanted his help but were arrogant enough to place conditions and standards so unreasonably difficult for his poor frame mind to accept at the time, and in his smallest ways he opened a small window they could took if they had his best interests at heart "love me unconditionally like I love you all" their failure to remove the conditions is a clear message all they cared for was the wealth he would create them if he was clean, they did not love the man they loved his money. It is selfish and evil for them to wanted him clean but in his little failings they had nothing to do with him.

And people are addicted, traumatized, and in pain. They are very fragile so fragile that they don’t understand when they’re being taken advantage of, but as professionals, we have a code of ethics which guides are behavior and protects clients. Even as a practicing coach, you have a code of ethics to follow. If you get a chance, read the code of ethics for coaches, and then you’ll be able to answer the question for yourself was DMX exploited or not. Be well

I saw this episode and it was Very sad and hard to watch. I know DMX had a lot of demons he was fighting. I will never forget the way he treated his son. I'm sorry he lost his life and I hope there was a healing between them.

That’s love bc the way he was talking to her I would have left at day one. But her calling is to give people the tools to heal. His son wanted them but he didn’t so she had to focus on helping the son to heal. And what many people forget is that so much of the video was edited to protect Mr. Simmons and he put himself out there. Addiction is a monster which even Mr. Simmons admitted to himself.

The DMX expose needed support of a mental health expert and drug counselor backing Iyanla as she coached and ministered to DMX's spirit. This should have been a (special case edition.) No one is equipped to help an addict who isn’t ready to get clean. Iyanla could have had a licensed mental health and substance abuse counselor right there. The outcome would be the same

Watch his doc. DMX was deeply hunted and drugs fuel it and he probably never knew, that mental trauma from child hood or whenever, mix it with drugs it's a recipe for down fall. The enimie will fool you in thinking you can find peace when infact he should have been treated for depression, aniexty and abandonment. DMX I wish he could have had a spiritual advisor around him and productive team so he could lean on. Now everyone is there what if he had all of this support when he was he, all the compassion, understanding and love for him not DMX. Earl was so in mental pain and emotional tournment and everyone can see it here it and feel it all through his music. People if you have someone suffering quit waiting to it's to late. Iyanla was NOT mean to DMX. He was under the influence of crack. I can't believe she put up with him the way she did.

He was clearly not ready to be present. Continuing to push someone into a space that causes them clear discomfort is not ok. Especially in a setting where cameras and strangers are watching. The camera should have been cut long ago and if ge cursed her out and missed coming the first day, those are also indicators that the timing was off proceeding set him up as he was not open and the outcome reflects this. It doesn't mean he wasn't wrong. It means her as a coach choose to ignore the warning signs that DMX was not in the right space to do the work.

I'm glad I watched this because I felt the same way this host felt after watching that DMX episode but she really cleared it up for me , was always a fan of DMX, always believing he would conqueror his demons and watching that episode broke my 💙, that man has so much to share with the world, it is a shame that he can't break the chains that bind him, 🙏going up for him and his family, also to Iyanla for bringing people to their truth.
That's why I like it better when she works with non-celebrities, because the celebrities tend to be on the show to promote themselves, while with others it comes from a more real place. There's more willingness there.
I love me some DMX music, but DMX is a broken man. He has a long path to healing and hopefully he will find his way to stable sobriety. Addiction is unfortunately permanent, so permanent sobriety is nonexistent for an addict. I hope that he can maintain a healthy life path.

It focused too much on his drug use and not really what caused his PAIN. VH1 Couples Therapy you got to see some of his issues and where the pain stem FROM. DMX is in pain deeply, and the only channel he has to release it is through music and unfortunately drugs. But he is definitely not a bad person.

What you said doesn't make sense. He didn't lose "his footing as a competent human being", once he "lost" his ability to make money and news. He was battling addiction since he was a teen, way before fame. He has songs and a book about it. He didn't even like the fame much. He was dealing with what a lot of people deal with, but don't have cameras on them. Dealing with multiple traumas is no easy feat, adding addiction to it makes it even harder. His addiction was just easy to poke at and scrutinize. I'm pretty sure it was his family that reached out to her, not him specifically, but he agreed to do it out of love. The issue isn't always not wanting help, but not knowing how to RECEIVE it.
