      PSH along with Willem Dafoe can be considered to be the greatest American thespians of all time, and it's not even a matter of doubt.

    • @colinwoods9601
      @colinwoods9601 4 года назад +7

      Your neighborhood friend I like Defoe, but he does not have near the range that PSH has. He’s great at a few things, but PSH can do it all. Imagine Defoe in all the roles featured in this video-he couldn’t do it.

    • @DC-zi6se
      @DC-zi6se 4 года назад +9

      @@colinwoods9601 Oh I think you haven't explored Dafoe's work enough. I think he's easily comparable to PSH. His emotional range and versatility is far greater than most people think. Mostly people just know from his villainous and maniacal roles. But, he's played everything to the point of being unrecognisable from one film to another.

    Part of what I think makes PSH such a notable presence on screen is despite the fact a he’s a master of the art of acting, he doesn’t look like an actor. He’s not particularly good looking like a young Al Pacino or seemingly experienced and mature like Clint Eastwood, he just looks like a guy. But he’s so talented and precise with all his inflections and expressions that he becomes a real person. He bridges the gap between what we see as an actor and what’s the reality of some guy who works down the hall at your job.

    He stole every scene he was in, including stealing scenes from The Dude. If you want to see unbelievable range follow him playing spoiled preppie in Scent of a Woman, to a gay, confused simpleton in Boogie Nights, to a been-there, done that music critic in Almost Famous, to a male nurse loving a flawed man in Magnolia, to a witty, sardonic playboy in The Talented Mr. Ripley, to playing a perfect, dry, vulnerable Truman Capote. His career was far more reaching than that, but those movies are all you need to realize he was the best actor we had. He was stolen from all of us.
