    3:56 - ...work of art.” The 126 Is altogether a work of art. We own a V140, which I think is “stately”, but the 126 is “better looking.” That it was produced so many years (late ‘79 - late ‘91) confirms this. Either that, or they kept making them because the 140’s intro kept being delayed. Kind of funny they made both models simultaneously for a few months in 1991.

    Nice job Kent. Here in ireland a beast like that is seldom seen due to the price of gas here and the cost of road tax on big engines. It would be almost 2000 dollars to tax it for the year. I just have to make do with my CLK 200 from 2003. 80k miles and I love it. Do you ever do any work on any of those?

      We don't have the CLK200 in the U.S., but I do own a 2006 CLK 500 AMG. Might be a little faster than your 200 :-). I named the car "Giggles," because every time I punch the throttle I find myself giggling. LOL

      @@Mercedessource Lol i can understand that. Most of the Mercedes you see here are Diesel motors. Diesel is king here in terms of fuel economy, although they are trying to force everyone into electric cars now.
      They'll have a job getting me into one. My CLK 200 I bought for the equivalent of 700 dollars and previous to that, I had a 2004 C180 coupe for 2 and a half years but I got hit with the oil migration into the engine loom via the cam magnet connectors.
      On the CLK (same M271 motor) the first thing I did was fit new magnets and the oil blocking pigtails. I really like fooling around with old Mercs and a lot more since I came across your channel.
      I have made a few videos on the C180 I had on some of the jobs I did. Anyway, keep up the good work and warm regards from Central Ireland.

    3:47 It is too pretty to get all full of road grime again. lol
    Is there a way to do a custom shroud that would protect it better without sacrificing whatever safety from the original design was? Maybe a deflector ahead of it? That is a special piece of art, and having it endure any extra road grime should just be more preventable. So many small places for excessive dirt and water to sit and corrode.
    Fantastic reveal!

    This video was GREAT !!!! I have a 1990 Mercedes 560 SEL that I've owned for 20 years. It has under 90.000 miles and it's in mint condition. I put it away in December on a trickle charger. It's now April and I tried to start it up with a half tank of gas. It only cranked but would not start. I heard the sender kick in but I couldn't smell gas at all near the intake. I haven't checked for a spark yet but as an educated guess,...does it sound like I need a new fuel delivery system? ? ?

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  2 года назад +1

      It is always best to troubleshoot the problem before buying parts. It could be more than one thing or even multiple issues that could be causing your problem ( just due to the age of the car ). If you have owned the car for 20 years it has never been replaced the back end fuel delivery system most likely should be replaced for safety and reliability. Here is the link to the kit. Thank you so much for your videos! They are priceless. My dad gave me his 1986 560SEC which I'm attempting to restore. She's been sitting for around 8 years or so. I rebuilt the fuel assembly with 2 new pumps, filter, accumulator, hoses and screen. I have also put in new plugs and wires, and naturally changed the oil. Now she starts so strong and dies over a 8 second period. If I hit the gas, she just quits. I've replaced the relay which is what got me started. A few weeks ago when I got it started I ran a seafoam cleaner through the tank. It ran for about an hour or so smoothly. Now she just starts and dies. What do you think I'm missing?

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  2 года назад +1

      What you are experiencing is quite common on these old K-Jet engines that have sat for long periods of time - ethanol in our gas raises havoc inside the fuel distributor. It deteriorates the seals and gums up the passages. Google for more info. You might try adjusting the fuel mixture to get the engine to run well enough to run fuel injector cleaner through the system. There is lots of info online about mixture adjustment.

    Hi ken! I have a 1988 420SEL W126 and I put a fuel additive called fuel doctor and after it ran for a few days now the car won’t start and I am thinking I may have ruined my fuel system. Would a kit such as yours fix my problem? I don’t know the history of the car and it’s done just over 324k km. Would this fix my problem or would it be a different problem that’s causing my car not to start? I am located in Australia. Any advice please would be welcomed

    • @Mercedessource

      There are so many things it could be. Probably not even related to the fuel additive. You need to do a complete diagnosis BEFORE ordering any parts. May not even be fuel related. Compression? Fuel pressure? Ignition spark? etc.

New pressure regulator.Apon starting the car it ran very rough and black smoke out the exhaust.smelt like excessive fuel. I then started messing with the c/o screw. I suspect your fuel distributor has gone bad from sitting with old fuel in it. You will need to get a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the system to help diagnose what is going on.

    How long would it take an experienced MB mechanic to install this kit on my 560SL? I am not handy and would like to order this kit and give it to my local Indy MB shop to install. However first I'd prefer to have some idea of how long this takes to install so I can plan for the labor cost. 30 minutes, 2 hours, 4 hours? I have no clue and would appreciate any guidance. Thank you

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  3 года назад +1

      My kit is really designed for the DIY owner. If you can do oil changes and have some car ramps you can do this yourself. My lengthy video instructions will walk your through the process step by step and you will know it gets done right. If you feel a mechanic must do it I would check with him before you order my kit. Many shops do not like it if you supply the parts - it can create a warrantee problem for them. Time of install depends a lot on the condition of the car. If there is rust on the fittings, brackets and fuel lines that car really add to the time. If they know your car they can give you a better estimate.
