Thank you man! Just dug out my 2006 wheels to get back into cycling and couldn't work out how to get into the free hub. Pull on the cap and pop! I can't thank you enough to saved me a trip to the shop. I owe you a beer!
Great video, just serviced my 2011 Ksyrium Elite (was getting skip under take up of load). For anyone else doing that particular model of wheel, to undo the axle end bolt you don't need to remove anything from the non-drive side and its a 5mm Allen key for BOTH sides. Also Mavic have now superseded the actual freehub body part itself and its now part no. 30871101 for Shimano (was M40592) which includes a special step shim that replaces the spacer and allows the pre 2013 axle width of 8mm to fit this new freehub body that is also for the 2013 onwards 9mm axle models. Its a snug fit but just place it carefully and it'll slide into position.
I found the answer to my question. The hubs will work on Aksiums. They just need a spanner rather than the 10mm hex on the non-drive train side. Thanks for this video is is really informative.
The front hub uses maintenance-free cartridge bearings. All that you can do is adjust bearing preload or replace the cartridge bearings (only should be done by your LBS)
There is no non-drive-side end-cap to pull off on my Aksium Race wheels. I cracked the free hub attempting to tighten the wobble out of the cassette. If I can't change the free hub then the wheel is dead. The amazon M10 freehub page says that it fits most wheels "save the Aksium." Does that mean there is no way of changing the free hub on Aksium's?
OK I have some ksirium sls --- the rims are pretty worn -- can I get them replaced ? Everything else is still good. No other problems, one spoke broke about 3 years ago but no more since.
Hello Ray, Yes, those rims are still available and can be replaced. You can order them from me or I also can install them for you. You can email me at roguemechanic at gmail dot com for more specifics. Thanks! John
RogueMechanic Hi I did get back to you --but as you are obviously across the pond I don't think you can do much for me -- thanks for the information though -- I'm going to contact Mavic and see if I can get some rims and then find someone to build them for me -- any model number I will need to order them (I recon they must be around the 2010 model ! which would make them the original Ones ???
Nylon bushing ahahahahahaha Sorry guys but buying hubs with nylon bushing is a waste of time. Spending time servicing them is an even largers waste of time. I take my mtb and road biking very serious when it comes to wheelsets. They must have sealed bearing hubs and hub bodies. Anything less is simply a waste of time and money. I prefere hadley hubs at the core of my wheelsets.

Hi. Is that nylon bushing replaceable? I'm having some insane buzzing/grinding at high speeds downhill and I think it may be the bushing.
Thanks Rogue mechanic, very helpful.
mavic elite wheels and most wheels have a bit of play in the cassette

Thank you for this informative

Thanks John!
used oil not grease. contaminating dust to grease become thicker that will destroy your gear
The mavic design (i think at least) is designed to be the weak point.

Very blurry 240 quality video.
It was recorded FOURTEEN years ago, that was an expensive camera at the time...
