@@ghas4151 it's recessed in though. The lens mounts on the front. There should be no worries or issues at all. Unless you stick your fingers in there for no reason at all. If they had hit 2000$ the camera will be a hit, good enough to increase market share a little. As is it's just a pretty nice camera, fantastic in the video side of the fence, but $500 more expensive than the Canon and Sony competitors. Nikon as the underdog can't go out charging more. On the other hand, they depend on Sony so maybe Sony is charging them an arm and a leg for it.

Excellent camera indeed - pulling ahead of the ZF which is superb retro camera for same space and at moment bit cheaper < £/$1999, my only grumble with this camera and others (mid-term space) Z6 II - III, Z7 and Z8 is the restriction that Nikon put on in the additional grips punter can buy for these cameras (same as Canon) that you can only use the EN-EL15's batteries and not the higher capacity D4-D6/Z9 EN-EL18* that last much longer and punters may have lying around with their D4-D6/Z9 cameras. Nikon did offer this functionality with the MB-D12 (D800-D810) and MB-D18 (D850) - extremely handy indeed with my D800 ; could get between 4500 - 5500 shots on one battery.

Are you asking about in stills? Or in video? Gerald Undone did test dynamic range of the common video codecs and found it to be behind some other cameras. Part of this is because Nikon applies less noise reduction than some other cameras (like Sony and Panasonic), However, if one is able and willing to do some noise reudction in post, one can get a bit more dynamic range from the footage coming out of the Z6 III. I have heard a few people state that stacked sensors tend to have an adverse affect on dynamic range. (I know that is why Panasonic is proud to state that the G9 II and the GH7 have faster sensor readout WITHOUT using a stacked sensor).
@marinrealestatephotography I'm referring to the video. It's a shame because the dynamic range is quite low compared to the competition and this particular camera seems to have solved many problems. Like AF. But not the ibis either...
They both have their pros and cons. Yes, the construction of the Z8's and Z9's screen is better. But this simpler mechanism probably saves some money and possibly even weight. Though my guess is they also needed something regarding the screen to differentiate it from the flagships 🤪
@@MattisProbably Some people cannot understand that the world can change. People want flippy screen for many reasons, even for photos. Would have appreciated a $2k camera without all the high end video specs & best evf in history… literally just wanted the expeed7 for better af tracking in photo… maybe if it were 33 megapixels but $2.5k is too much for just 24 and precapture jpeg only. Perhaps if they made 2 versions at a $500 difference like Fuji & Sony did they could have owned this space in the market but at this price point more people will buy a7iv or s5ii instead…
Oh, it will sell very well, don't you worry. 33mpx makes no sense if you have Z7 and Z8. It's good to have a low light king in your line. As for price, it's basically the same as A7iv at launch and 33mpx is actually a negative for me as I have Z7 ready and many professionals have two bodies as well and they need a body for good low light performance.
@@andrzejjaniak6849 nobody’s worried my guy lol, just expressing my opinion… but congrats on speaking for professionals and sharing your thoughts on a prosumer camera. Most of us who don’t make money from this can only justify one body. The only benefits I can see are improved focusing and frame rate over the z6ii Minus points -10 EV focus - F1.2 lens (not for the majority of people) 👎 Pre burst - jpg only👎 Pixel shift - useless for movement in landscapes 👎
Tough choice. The S5IIX was a blast to work with, so its gonna depend heavily on your work flow and preferred colour space. Both are really great options for the price- For me, the S5IIX was easier to pick up and run just cause I've run the GH5, GH6 for years. But I could absolutely see using the Z6III if Nikon if I had been using Nikon cameras for a while, and that lack of rolling shutter is killer.
Hmm... the A7IV released at the same price back in 2021. So counting inflation the price for the Nikon is actually less. Also, a7IV doesn't do 4k60 full frame or RAW video and doesn't have a fast read out sensor. I'm no Nikon stan but this clearly outclasses the A7IV for the same cost.
A lower MP count then the Z8 yet sill Pre Capture in Jpeg. A 24MP partially stacked FF Camera when the 45MP Fully Stacked Z8 is currently only $1000 more. Also, I have yet to hear ANYONE talk about the Video Files sizes. Not one person.
Buys $2.5k on a camera and $2k on a lens and can't afford a laptop or pc that can process or store those videos. Z6iii is meant for professionals who can fully utilize its capabilities.
Video file sizes are so insanely different depending on which codec, color space, and frame rate you select, we would have to list about a dozen to even come close to giving a relatively good spread given all the different options. For example, N-raw 6k60 got about 8.5min on a 128gb card, apple ProRes Raw was 6.7min, and h.265 4k60 was just over 3hrs on a 128gb. Most Apple ProRes Raw and N-Raw formats are huge, like 1.4 gigs per second. So they are massive files no matter what. H.265 you can get down to 150-200mbps depending on if you need 4k 10bit or if 8bit is fine.
As a pro photographer for nearly 20 years now, whose work has shifted a lot towards video, you just have to live in another mindset. That hardrive you used to buy every other year, now now have to buy multiple during the year. This is what it is, no one forces you to press that little red button, and you can also choose from 1080p 8bit h265 or 6 k raw, no one forces you to shoot 6k raw if the file size is too big. I would say that log 10 bit is already very very good.
Great review guys a massive improvement and amazing camera , but $3700CAD, 3000 euros ,$4500 AUD, $4900NZD , isn't this too much ?. All good if you have USD $2500 happy days. Makes a bit of sense as Z6II launch was $2000 USD four years ago all good .But due to fluctuations and massive currency disparities in the exchange rates in 2024. Nikon has priced it for strongest global currency right now being USD, we are also seeing a new normal from Japan , Japanese camera shops and companies are not doing business any more in their own weak Japanese YEN. They all like the strength of the USD this has become their de facto currency , just like how South Americans have always used it. Nikon priced and bench marked it up against USD , so for everybody else in the world it's going to be too expensive, so you end up over paying due to terrible exchange rates. This is really disappointing and annoying outside USA as you will get penalised with USD being stronger. So wait 12 months when it goes on sale like the Z8 is now. We see Nikon does lower prices randomly in different markets around world by way of offers and discounts, once the hype goes away as we are not all on the same playing field when it comes to buying capacity.
Pre-capture jpeg only no thanks, I have Z9 and Z8 and am waiting for hopefully firmware that adds Pre-capture RAW if not (as I also have R6II) I will switch to mostly Canon gear.
So pre capture jpeg is a dealbreaker despite of the rest a camera has to offer, on a mirrorless that gives a good preview of the result exposure before you actually take it?
@@shadow479 Let me put it like this, I own a Z7 II and I would have considered the Z6 III if it did come with RAW pre-capture. My current camera doesn't have the best AF system for shooting animals but it works well enough. The better AF system of the Z6 III just isn't enough for me to justify getting a camera with a smaller resolution. When you shoot animals proper pre-capture is an amazing feature to have. Animals can be very jumpy and unpredictable, given the average human reaction time that turns capturing certain moments into a guessing game... Pre-capture basically cancels out that disadvantage. If you shoot JPEG only then I guess it's no issue for you that Nikon does JPEG pre-capture only right now. But I don't.
Please, all these cameras are way overpriced, most people only need enough resolution for an 8X10 at most and just the basic features to take a well exposed picture.

In the Z8/Z9 there is an actual sensor shield, but that’s because they did away with the mechanical shutter.
@@ghas4151 it's recessed in though. The lens mounts on the front. There should be no worries or issues at all. Unless you stick your fingers in there for no reason at all.
I think there's a far greater risk of damaging the sensor/sensor glass from having to clean it a lot more often than having the shutter down when changing a lens.
Each to their own though
so how about landscape? i am not a professional, but would love to use it for landscape. i am not a video guy, so.... z8 or save the money and keep the z6iii?
You can certainly use the Z6III for landscape. The deciding factor is if you require the extra resolution of the Z8 for your needs?
If they had hit 2000$ the camera will be a hit, good enough to increase market share a little. As is it's just a pretty nice camera, fantastic in the video side of the fence, but $500 more expensive than the Canon and Sony competitors. Nikon as the underdog can't go out charging more. On the other hand, they depend on Sony so maybe Sony is charging them an arm and a leg for it.
This outperforms the Canon and Sony, which were both $2500 on release. This will also be going on sales in a few months.
I have owned the "competitors". They are MORE expensive for what you get. I have paid $500 for filters.
An important release by Nikon. This will appeal to the middle income folks who can't afford the two big brothers. For it offers, I think Nikon has nail this Z6III to perfection! Expect the waiting period to be loooong...coz this beauty will sell by the truck loads. I anticipate the sales for this new body wil eclipse the Z8 & Z9
I'm sorry to bother but i have a question. Did you have to do anything to your computer in order for lightroom to open up the raw files on the Z6 III?
Hi, no bother at all. As long as you are running the latest LR updates you should be just fine for working with the RAW files off of the Z6 III. Thanks
How does the Z6III auto focus performance compare to my D750? Night and day difference or a modest improvement? I shoot mostly sports.
Night and day. 100%
@@drewcrawford3211 Thanks!
It's a huge improvement! Once you try the latest AF performance tracking and subject recognition, you won't want to go back. It's quite something!
@@TheCameraStoreTV Thanks.
@@drewcrawford3211I'd be interested in your percentage after you'd tried an afc,(button hold) single point focus background/foreground transition in different lights and indoors/outdoors.
I love my Z5 and yes AF is not super good 😂 but I like that is not that heavy ! So I think if I want to upgrade it’d be to this nice and not so heavy Z6iii 😊
I ordered two!
Nice! Out of curiosity, what kind of photography/video will you do with the 2 bodies?
@@TheCameraStoreTV Astrophotography and Low light situation that would perform better than the Z8.

Yay, someone liked my dorky-refernece! ;)
Bit video heavy..
I'm more interested in taking photos..
Looks like a nice camera. 👍
Sorry, I detest the flippy screen, so I didn't buy the ZF! The only reason I will consider the Z6lll is the availability of a vertical-release grip.
It is like saying I don't want a touch screen on my smart phone today. You will have to stick with older cameras or buy a z8.
if only i could afford it it would be life changing , have fun with it !
No detailed information on the new flexible color picture control. This review is incomplete
For me it just got 1 issues
Its 4k 120 fps croping to aps c
Justt why ? 😭
Just take 6k feature , not everyone need that 6k shoott
Just give us 4k 120 fps full without cropping then take my money 😭😭
They have to leave something for the Z8. 😁
It’s honestly just a more expensive s5ii, the S5ii still the king of sub 2000 and even better than z6ii which is 2500
Not really, the Z6 iii is clearly the better camera in most aspects
Can I use my XQD cards on this camera?
Yes
What about the DYNAMIC RANGE?
@marinrealestatephotography
I'm referring to the video. It's a shame because the dynamic range is quite low compared to the competition and this particular camera seems to have solved many problems. Like AF. But not the ibis either...
Take a look at Gerald Undone's video. He went into that in depth.
I don't like the flippy screen. I would prefer the same one as the z8
Guess what, the invisible Man I was on family of friends photos is no more. I was not particularly fond of selfies, but now t least sometimes I can have some souvenirs with friends and family.
Maybe if you actually read my comment you could agree or disagree that having 2 versions would have been ideal so people can choose instead of waiting 1-2 years for the z7iii which will no doubt be priced almost the same as z8 and makes absolutely zero sense…
The only benefits I can see are improved focusing and frame rate over the z6ii
Minus points
-10 EV focus - F1.2 lens (not for the majority of people) 👎
Pre burst - jpg only👎
Pixel shift - useless for movement in landscapes 👎
You forget at what price this is selling for? For price against features ration, its fair
So you mention the price, how about the Canon r6ii with high FPS, Raw burst etc. for less than 2k
Nikon Z6 III is 50% better than Sony a7 IV. Only megapixel beat by Sony a7iv. I am selling Sony gears now for Nikon
You may change your mind when you've compared the focusing to Sony.
@@davida6520 the focus doesn't give 40 or 30 fps. 6k60p, 4k120p, raw video. The focus on Sony is not everything
I should have asked you to explain the '50% better' statement. I now understand you're interested in shooting jpg and video.
Which camera was moore fun to use for Your operator to shoot review and which camera is moore complete for video work -S5IIX or Z6iii?
Tough choice. The S5IIX was a blast to work with, so its gonna depend heavily on your work flow and preferred colour space. Both are really great options for the price- For me, the S5IIX was easier to pick up and run just cause I've run the GH5, GH6 for years. But I could absolutely see using the Z6III if Nikon if I had been using Nikon cameras for a while, and that lack of rolling shutter is killer.
@@drewcrawford7812 And how is hi ISO noise and highlight recovey in Z 6iii in comaprision with S5Xii?
@@paravisual No idea. Recovered detail in shadows pretty damn well, but didn't have much footage to recover highlights with.
Didn't know Keir Starmer was into photography 😮
It's a lower resolution Sony A7 IV - at about 1/3 higher price. What's the plan, Nikon?
Hmm... the A7IV released at the same price back in 2021. So counting inflation the price for the Nikon is actually less. Also, a7IV doesn't do 4k60 full frame or RAW video and doesn't have a fast read out sensor. I'm no Nikon stan but this clearly outclasses the A7IV for the same cost.
The plan seems to be smashing the A7M4's video specs XD
It’s four times the speed of the A7IV at full bit depth readout . Resolution is not the end all metric of a camera
ISO is native 64,000 great for astronomy or astrophotography.

Nikon z6III, Neekon zed6III, Neekon z6III, Nikon zed6III.
If you didn't talk so fast, Man, then perhaps we would be able to take in the actual performance of the camera.
Ok then just wait until this camera goes on sale for $2000…or wait until these are selling on the used market
"Only" $1000 more. I've got that in the couch cushions.
There is NO Ý' in NIKON , at least learn to ptonounce it properly if you dont believe ask NIKON its their company !!
I asked my Canadian coach did you guys ever say Zed for Z. He laughed and said what? You posers. 😜🤓
Pre-capture jpeg only no thanks, I have Z9 and Z8 and am waiting for hopefully firmware that adds Pre-capture RAW if not (as I also have R6II) I will switch to mostly Canon gear.
Don't wait switch now, you you got the money.
@@davecrissinger8967 lol I already have canon too.
Why switch to Canon gear when Nikon have the best glass out there? You have to admit the Canon offerings are lackluster compared to Nikon.
Please, all these cameras are way overpriced, most people only need enough resolution for an 8X10 at most and just the basic features to take a well exposed picture.
If you don’t know what a partially stacked sensor is, just say that. Dahell is a sandwich of circuitry?
