The level of musicianship in Japan is next level. You need to see the bassist Wakazaemon in East of Eden. How good is she? she tours with Marty Friedman. Hazuki & Lisa-X stellar as always.
The more I listen to them, the more I think this is just a mind-blowing band. What an insane concentration of talent, and then the great writing. Thanks for checking them out.
It's great that they got Wakazaemon as a guest bassist for this one. What a great fit with their new (and amazing) drummer Kanade Sato. I love hearing Kanade play metal stuff like this since I am mainly used to her Jazz Fusion with Ear Candy Jazz Factory and Muses (which are both great as well). I am not surprised she kills it though, she is really good. I just received my copy of the Blu-ray today, this makes me hyped to watch it (I do prefer this over the other track to be fair).
@@maximushaughton2404 Strange, they aren't mentioned on her website while Muses, Ear Candy Jazz Factory and Koiai are front and center on the homepage. It might just be a support job she did or something, but I am curious to check that out. No disrespect to Sae and Chika, I actually think both of them are the most technically gifted instrumentalists that have been in Hanabie, but a band like that with a very technical drummer sounds like it can be really cool. EDIT: ALMONDot might be a 2-piece project, if you look at their yt page, the old videos have 2 of them and the banner has 2 faces "cut-off", so she is probably a live support drummer. That said, she did that for Koiai as well and turned into a fulltime member, so who knows. I am for sure going to watch that live video though. Edit 2: Kanade Sato also plays live and on most of the newer solo albums from Rie a.k.a Suzaku, although the new livestreamed show Rie is going to do (today I believe) is with Mimi from Tokyo Groove Jyoshi on drums.
@@MaartenT I think it's one of those ones that it's hard to get your head around. Kanade has posted she was support for the band on their 1st live show. The ALMOUNDot webpage list her as a member, but not on YT, also Kanade has been in all their videos. I know Rie a.k.a Suzaku sometimes uses Haruka, from Fate Gear as well as a drummer sometimes.
@@maximushaughton2404 If the ALMOUNDot webpage lists her as a member, it's probably up to Kanade if she has time to be a fulltime member or not. I assume she at least is going to support them in the forseable future then. They are a really new band from what I can see, so things can change quickly. I am really curious about this, though. I will try to keep my eye on it. And yes, Rie seemingly loves to collab with a lot of different people. Senri Kawaguchi also recorded drums for her on at least one album back in the day and has played with her live. I have also seen her use 2 or 3 different keyboard players over the years. In that sense Juna Serita is a great fit because she is basically the same. Haruka seems to be similar as well, she does her Haruka Super Sessions every once in a while which hve a lot of different people on stage from all kinds of bands, some of them pretty big ones like Loudness.
Awesome song, I have been enjoying this Blu Ray they put out all weekend, it sold out for the overseas audience in less than 24 hours. Hazuki & Lisa-x are great together, I keep forgetting they have known each other since 2017 before nemophila.
I wouldn't say that not having a defining sound or style is a problem. Just look at Gacharic Spin a band that refuses to be pigeonholed, and talking of pigeon's you could throw Band Maid in there, yes they are both rockish bands. Hell you could throw Babymetal in there as well, they are metal + j pop + something else + a different thing. I know in the west we do like bands to stick to a defining sound or style, as we like to pigeonhole bands, But to me KOIAI are a new rock band, with some of the best in Japan as members. Whereas Gacharic Spin & Band Maid had a back catalog, so we could accept them being over the place with a sound and style.
I have the Blu-ray and it is an amazing show. I'm so into this band right now. Hazuki does a great instrumental version of Iron Maidens "The Trooper". There's also a Babymetal back up dancer reunion with Kotono and Saya Hirai who do a couple dance routines together to background music. I definitely look forward to future work from these ladies!
Glad to hear you weigh in on this. My sense is that KOIAI (ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME!!) is first and foremost a Lisa-X driven thing, and she seems to want to reach a broad audience. All of which is fine with me - I like the more melodic song-structure style as well. Would like to see them succeed.
That bit has been ringing a bell for me, and I know that song of yours! Anyway, this song is genius. It's easily my favourite of theirs too, but more generally I think it's cool that they're doing something novel, blending prog-metal style technicality with pop-rock (it's just that pop-rock isn't usually my thing unless it has a lot of passion in it). So I'd support them in continuing on the path they're on.
I really like them. Hope they stay tohgether for a long time. Kotono is such an amazing professional dancer, I kinda expected her to have more of a stage presence that she does in the two they realased. Seemed alomst a little shy to me.
@RobinC63 Agreed on this one, but I was meaning overall on the two that have been released. She is an excellent performer. Hope to see more of that side in future live releases. Like lots of great dancing in Twice "Better".
KOIAI, and NEMOPHILA too for that matter, dont seem to want to be boxed into genre styles. Seeing more and more bands mix matching genre styles and doing cross genre collabs.
Well if bandmaid are anything to go by, having such a varied but masterful catalogue just keeps us from straying too far. There is such a tradition in the best Japanese rock in switching styles several times in a song - maximum the Hormone, or every bar - sokoninaru, and making it totally work. In all cases for some reason a really great drummer helps it work.
Penny Black This is why I call Hazuki... "Penny Black": a variant of Nemophila Menziesii "baby blue eyes" flower with a distinct... KOIAI "dark indigo" color!
That drummer is putting on a clinic as well. Now, I'm just gonna put this out there: Imagine Nemophila with Lisa-X as the second guitarist. Don't hate me. I'm just dreaming.
To be honest, I'd like to see them use Sally as a 2nd guitarist ギター使いSally ruclips.net/video/z3yB0J5ebQw/видео.html It's also some one Mayu knows and has worked with, when she used to help out Lipstick.
Get over yourself. I have watched you since you started turning your Band Maid reactions into 30 minute personal promo horror shows. Nothings changed Bye
Brilliant!
Hope they do more like this!

You don’t see her much in this video because it’s dark and she’s not in it much, but Wakazaemon is the bassist in this performance!
Wow Hazuki is super bad ass and cute as hell!!!! She is also kicking ass in Nemophila!!!😊❤❤

Kanade Sato is also in ALMONDot. They are a bit crazy like Hanabie, but without the growls.

just two words: true masterpiece

This is the year of Hazuki.
I was at this show. Was lucky enough to meet Li-sa, Hazuki and Kotono afterwards. It was a fantastic evening.
This is completely mind-blowing.
Lisa-xの成長を応援しよう! 😊
The Dream Theater and Polyphia influences are pretty evident in Lisa's stuff.
They're a great band, and Kotono hits her cues spot on.

Yes, I noticed that about Kotono as well.
I think her reserved style in this song fits the vocal part completely.

ドラムの調音がパーカッション並で良い。
乾いた音が好み!
paka paka🎵🥁
Yeah, this song is so prog!
dream theater with Lenka on vocals😁
Hazukiiii
If you want a great example of those sections you described as circus like go and listen to Kaizers Orchestra. It’s more of a cabaret feel.

Has Hazuki been holding back on Nemophila?? damn!! I kinda like her.. just a bit...she is amazing
Think I have seen that bassplayer with Marty Friedman at Wacken.
Great reaction. Was hoping to catch this.!. so good live!!. that little circus part reminds me of Lizz Robinett ,hide and seek
Thanks Wave!

Wave you forgot to mention Hazuki from Nemophil playing second guitar on this song " A New Picture ". How could youi?
I figured I didn’t need to state the obvious.. 😂

BLU RAY SOLD OUT!!!
Damm !!!!!!
@@DJAYPAZ DAMN CRAY, CRAY!!!
I just wish they finished it off with a short solos or a nasty riffages, that would been cool.
Damm Cool.
How many Japanese players are just in multiple groups. Hard to keep up with individual players like Kanade Soto.
They need to drop the bubblegum and focus on this kind of music.
トーマスハーケが叩いてんのか?
