Man, I haven't seen this in forever. My dad had a couple of VHS tapes he recorded old cartoons onto that I would watch a thousand times when I was a kid in the 90s. This was one of my favorites.
This cartoon was one of the earliest I can recall watching when I was little. Now I look back on my youth years as a teen this reminds me so much of myself in my past 10 years ago it was my goal to be a big shot and yeah I truly was just a baby inside. That's okay everything worked out now. It's rediculas how so many people put me down in the past for watching cartoons they didn't realize I also wanted to be a cartoonist in reality. Well I am going places in life and this cartoon touches me somehow lol I can see myself in it and I am still a small fry of a character in life.🤗👍
Tooter Turtle (about twenty years later) is to me, a great cartoon that taught kids about not doing dangerous/adult things before they are old enough. I loved your comment
I remember watching a cartoon like this when I was a kid with a story so sad that I cried a lot afterwards. It was a New Year's Eve party and a little girl was crying trying to sell boxes of matches without attracting anyone's attention. Tired and sad the girl leaned against a place, it was winter and it was snowing a lot, she woke up in a very beautiful place full of children just like her playing happily. lots and lots of dancing when little angels came to play with her, it was clear in that moment that she had fought the cold and died and gone to heaven... I cried a lot that day. Never forget this cartoon . 😔😔😔😔😔😭😭😭😢😢😢
Kudos to the elderly fishes cause they taught him that he needs to learn more. The older generation are wiser in terms of life experiences yet here we have youngsters talk as if they know better. We should all listen and learn properly not making ourselves grow quick always room for new knowledge
When I watched this as a kid I thought the adults were torturing Junior. But I now know they were simply teaching him a lesson on being naughty and that he is still too young to things grown ups do.
To me it could've been either way. Surely they do see he's too young for what's considered "adult business", and they could've tried to show him what's considered too big for him, yet it could've also been just a test to see if he'd capably tackle this.
Yes lol this is amazing because I'm 41 and I always would sing this jiggle in my head and sometimes out loud playfully nobody knows where I got it from but here it is Ole small fry
very creative for that era even the pool parlor concept ,thats why i love old animations even without sound ,shows they have good thinkin processes ,just like scientific explorations/ inventions, advancements then amazing
Bikini Bottom in the 1930's be like, "welcome to the Salty Spittoon, how tough are ya?" Small Fry: How tough am I? Got a new bottle of ketchup? Big Fry: Sure! Small Fry: It's on! Big Fry: Get outta here kid, this place is too tough for you.
The humanizing of fish is funny. Walking on their fins. Cigarettes. Turning on a faucet under water. "Sole of my shoe." "You got your feet all soaking wet." What would soaking wet be to a fish? The list goes on. The liberties with science are humorous.
I’m young only 20 years old but I have seen the when I was a little boy with my grandpa he would show me all his collection of old movies tv shows etc and fun times with him his very old now and hard for him to move around it’s sad but love him and may god keep him healthy
There's always a bigger fish, those guys were trying to teach him that he was trying to be a man before his time, so they gave him a scared straight experience
I wonder if that sequence in the dark cave was the inspiration behind the monsters seen during the “Now That We’re Men” song of the first Spongebob film. It seems to have a similar art style and aesthetic.
He estado buscando esta caricatura y al fin la encuentro 😭❤️🩹 no me sabía el nombre así que fue difícil. Recuerdo que la tenía en un DVD de caricaturas clásicas (nací en el 2006, así que no tengo una gran historia 😅)
Well, I'm 19, so im still waaaayy past the generations who saw those cartoons when they came out. However, i was lucky enough to grow up in canada when the tv channel "teletoon retro" existed and ran really old warner bros and anna barbara cartoons in the evening. I would religiously watch the looney tunes after dinner. If i ever have to babysit or become a kid's uncle or something, I'll show them old cartoons like this.
1:57 you can hear the Popeye voice actor in the pool hall. It must have been Jack Mercer based on the year. Popeye cartoons were also originally made by the Fleischer studios
I had a VHS of this in the 90s and it’s so crazy how I still remember the lyrics 🥹 probably gonna get small fry tattooed on me because of how early of a memory this was for me 😭🥹❤️
Some of the younger viewers may look at this and wonder, "We're 1930's children really this awful?" Let's just say that, back in those days, children were exposed to a lot more lead.
I don't really see these kids as awful. If anything, kids back then we're at least interacting with each other. These days, kids are becoming more a-social and ultimately Anti-social thanks to video games and "social" media. That's why we have these school shootings now even though gun control is far strict than it was in the 1930's.
This is super crazy how this cartoon is almost 100 years old! I used to have this on VHS back in the 80s!
We did too. I was very small, and this one always scared me. Looking back on it, I can see why!
I still have it! My mom kept it all these years. I was born in 84 and this was my favorite as a little girl
Me too! I used to watch this on vhs in 1989. I miss the quality of cartoon
@@lilbaby-moomomyess! I have mine - born 85 - watched a his sooo many times 🚬🐟

The Little Matchgirl?
The Disney version is really depressing as well
@@Fangirl-Nerd12a lot of the older films are really depressing honestly, :(

Those elderly fishes were just a bunch of bullies abusing a kid for shits and giggles. Which ironically ended up teaching him a valuable lesson.
Never heard of a pick me kid before but there's always a first time for everything. I guess
When I watched this as a kid I thought the adults were torturing Junior.

I have not seen this since elementary school, which I hated, so I can still relate to "small fry"!!! I now have four Masters Degrees!
That's like 6 years per masters. You've spent 24 years on them? Yikes
One of my favorite cartoons watching on TV in the 1950s!
Another great cartoon from the Fleischer Studios!
This is so nostalgic, man I didn't even know I remember everything the characters says lol

Classic Cartoons are Cool New Cartoon Reboots are Fools
This is what children's entertainment used to be. To teach a moral lesson.
Back then TV shows & cartoons had morals
ha most of the cartoons by this studio are children dreaming of not being in poverty or birds eating candy.
Idk if you guys have watched any cartoons lately but they still do that...
7:19 This fish actually inspired the design for Captain Brineybeard’s ship in the Cuphead game
Childhood Memory.🙂
I'm 69. I remember this cartoon and the song.
These little old shows remind me of my older sister who showed us these old shows. Miss her❤ and haven't seen this in ages lol

"Is your son playing hooky or dead?"
Hooky
