Very good movie. Interesting concept and well acted mostly. Odd choice for Oliver Reed, before he became really well known I suppose. I think Georgy Girl gave him his first well known part.

I would think, being highly radioactive, the children would have been extremely warm to the touch. Radioactive elements are warm to the touch, emitting a constant stream of particles as they try to stabilize. It would have been more accurate, and interesting from a scientific perspective, if the children were so warm they radiated a field of warmth, like a space heater.
