I needed this! Great visual comparison to other sports. As a former tennis player I'm guilty of the exaggerated backswing, even at the net. Thank you!!👍👍

Thank you for making this video. I just started playing a month ago and one of my weakest skillsets is getting jammed up at the net, I'm going to play tomorrow, I'll keep the "fast hands" strategy in mind.

Thank you. This will help me in my progression in PB. I can't wait to try gripping the paddle harder when it's time to hit the ball. I just tried it without the ball and it really does make the paddle move much faster in a short amount of time.

Great tip. I also have seen one person talk about the paddle-free hand being behind you almost like you're placing that hand on a shelf. I see the player on the lower left hand side of the screen doing that move at 5:57.

I like your suggested technique as this is a weakness of my game. But agree with another comment that Ben Johns , footage, is contradictory and in keeping w Pickleball Pirates martial art reference of a relaxed stance over out front ready. Appreciate your effort and will give it a try.

Im not sure if you see this but every clip you show of ben Johns hitting the ball in a hands battle, shows him taking a back swing! Your video example literally contradicts what you are teaching. A compact back swing is the answer.

It's not even the same type of volley he's doing either. Ben is crushing those balls, while the guy in this is basically just deflecting. Makes it confusing.

Good video, I like the comparison to ping pong. one thing I wonder though is how does your back feel after a while of playing this way? Keeping that arm out in front sort of stuck/ready there seems to cause some of my olderish friends(who recommend this strategy) some back soreness + tightness after playing for 45 min or so.

    • @richardlively4087

That's a great question; yes, very important between points, and even during the point, to relax so that your body can recover from the intensity.

This is particularly correct. Yes, it is true you want a compact backswing. No it isn't true you want no backswing for anything other than a block and a reset.

Sorry, I only use one handed, but you can't go wrong just watching anything Anna Leigh does w her 2 hands!! However, I will say that if you are using 2 hands, get a paddle w a longer handle, like the gruvn raw 16H, and make sure your left hand (as a right hander) is dominant

    • @richardlively4087

Yes, I add a bit bc I like head heavy in my game, just like in tennis and golf, but no extra tape to cover it

    • @CurtPrice
      @CurtPrice 2 года назад +1

@@richardlively4087 I use lead tape on the end of my paddle too. I like a little more weight too. But it's still lead. I cover my lead tape with edge guard tape to avoid touching it. I don't want to touch it and then rub an eye or whatever. I always recommend people cover any exposed lead tape with edge guard tape, athletic tape, or whatever. Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but better safe than sorry. Don't wanna mess around with lead.

    Re: “Never ever do this”
Completely wrong about table tennis and backswing.
You do indeed have a backswing on loops. Most of the game is about setting up your forehand loop with a big backswing and tons of waste rotation.
For blocking, it is correct to say there is no backswing. But that is only part of the game.
