I believe you got several things wrong; 1) The camera won't meter until you have taken at least 3 shots after changing film. 2) The contact on the front I believe is flash synch. 3) There are no red light indicator inside the viewfinder, just a LCD which displays shutter speed etc.
The FA is a forgotten camera I own one it’s metering is good every one goes for FE or FM they are great value for money I definitely recommend one to anyone
I'm pretty sure the new lenses without aperature rings will also get stuck at their max-aperature with the FA, and that they revert it to center-metering instead of matrix.

My FA doesn't have any colored lights to determine under, over, or corrected exposure. Its a plus or neg symbol. Could you please clarify? Thanks
