WABC!!!!!!!!! The 4:30 Movie had just ended its stellar 13-year run on channel 7 the day before this commercial set on November 26,1981 (Thanksgiving), to be replaced by the same programs this promo set advertised, The People's Court and a 5:00 edition of Eyewitness news. It was a sad day in New York TV history. Planet of the Apes (shown later on here) was a huge deal on there! Our interpid WABC voiceover guy sure had a lot of work on this set of commercials. I wish I knew his name. Finally, a special treat with the WABC Late Movie intro. The music was by Alan Parker entitled Unlimited Love, from the KPM production music library. This intro was only used on weeknights.
The Queen's Museum-think i'll check out those exist-exhibits What's Up Doc-guess that was his best Bugs Bunny impression The Edge Of Night-good pimpslap that was Absence Of Malice-liked this film Making A Living-a.k.a It's A Living Fantasy Island-that game shouldve been rigged K-TEL Dancer-my mom still has that album Code Red-instead of just standing there watching, shouldnt he be trying to rescue his brother Danny? Coca Cola-and then when the cameras were off,Cosby had a talk with her.. Halston-looks like a nice party.. Lifesavers-sure he wasn't he only one watching her figure Missile Command-Michael Bay's next movie possibly Crazy Eddie-too much caffeine JouJou-try saying Pants Place Plus ten times fast lol Battle for the POA-that final shot was haunting..
The "Absence of Malice" trailer in this volume seems WAY better than the trailer posted in a recent set of commercials. I want to watch it as soon as I can. Bill Cosby was one of THE best spokespersons ever...this Coca Cola ad just shows him doing his selling thing. I think you are onto something with the "key party" vibe in the Halston spot -- makes sense. By the mid 1980s the "nightlife" vibe of his lifestyle brand was basically kaput. 22:09 I live for these local movie of the week/ late movie graphics....**sigh**
I swear the guy who throws the newspapers out of the van in the Absence of Malice commercial looks like Richard Dean Anderson. And hell, so does it in the Today's FBI preview.
He was in that episode of "Today's FBI": www.imdb.com/title/tt0725960/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_i7 I really doubt it was him (or anyone famous) throwing the newspapers, though.
17:10 - That's Chip Zien, the voice of Howard the Duck in the 1986 George Lucas-produced film! He's also an accomplished Broadway actor, best known for originating the role of the Baker in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.
That is way too many canned peaches! 😹
I was thinking the same! I could see if they added other fruits with it to make a fruit salad for the party. Lol !!

That K-TEL Dancer album had a bunch of the first songs I can remember singing the words to!
That Calibri Beam Sensor Lighter means trouble if kids are around.
I love how Fred Thaler always has a tight band for Fridays.

People rented phones??
This was in the days of the Bell System monopoly. You had to either rent a phone from them or pay a monthly fee to use your own phone.
80sCommercialVault You're correct. We had a South Central Bell store at our mall and you could rent a phone, or buy one.
K-Tel, the original That's what I call music.
my mom had quite a few k-tel records

In the "Fridays" end credits, one of the writers is Larry David the same guy famous for "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm".
He wasn't just a writer, he was a cast member.
you can also see Michael Richards 2 seconds later in that cast scene.
The apes have taken over, in the far distant future...but WAIT! Suddenly, there's Superman!
Save us from the apes, Superman!!
