- My first ride on the Cherohala Skyway. Riding my 2021 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT.
This is an awesome route....one of my top two rides on the East Coast. The skyway is a 43-mile National Scenic Byway from Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to Robbinsville, North Carolina. It is featured as one of Discovery Channel’s Top 10 Motorcycle Rides in North America; some call it the “best kept secret. It winds up and over 5,400 foot mountains for 18 miles in North Carolina and descends another 23 miles into the deeply forested back country of Tennessee. The road crosses through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests thus the name “Chero…hala”. The Skyway is becoming well known in motorcycling and sportscar circles for it’s long, sweeping corners, scenic views and cool summer breezes.
It can be desolate at night and extremely dangerous in the winter months. There are no facilities other than a couple of restrooms for the entire 41 miles so make sure you have enough gas to make the crossing. There is little evidence of civilization from views that rival or surpass any from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

1h10min37sec should have overtake the white pick up truck while you had a chance . Anyway, loved the video, epic ride!! Keep riding!!
From a quick look at that segment, he was moving at a nice speed. I normally pass if the vehicle is slowing me down.....I was enjoying the views. That was my first time on the skyway....have rode it two times since then.

Mike thanks. Control is easy after many miles on the road with both bikes (Stage 3 Road Glide and this one). Also spend a lot of time practing slow speed drills (U-turns, emergency braking, swerves, and etc.) and riding any twisty road I can find. Additionally, I watch a lot of motorcycle crash videos and try to learn from the mistakes other riders make.
You have aftermarket bars?
Yes...those are the Horizon SST bars. Installed them myself. I'm 6'4" and couldn't ride this bike long distances without these bars and my Corbin seat.
