Kuana Torres Kahele shares the history and mele of Kaulana Nā Pua on "1879 First Ukulele" - Jose do Espirito Santo Ukulele. No one knows who actually built the first ukulele but this instrument was regarded as the oldest known ukulele in existence by curators of the Honolulu Academy of Arts in 1941. It has since been coined, "1879 First Ukulele".
