    Never underestimate the importance of 'winning' so-called Friendly matches against top English clubs in a foreign land, especially in a country that is almost exclusively dominated by the EPL coverage. We have just earned ourselves so many new fans and grew our brand.
    Futhermore, the confidence and belief this will give the Bhoys is huge and will serve as great momentum to take in to Europe, that we are showing signs of improvement against serious opposition. I made this point after the City result and got shot down for it.

      The huns beat Real Madrid this time last year. Two months later, they were looking for another manager!
      These are not "so called" friendly matches, they are literal friendly matches with absolutely nothing at stake. Yes it is preferable to win them than not. But the EPL doesn't start for another fortnight and as such Chelsea are a week or so behind Celtic in pre-season. That extra week of training (and three extra preseason games) makes a big difference at this level.
      It's always nice to see Celtic beating English opposition BUT people are reading way too much in to this. The Kilmarnock game is the game that counts

      @@Mantis_Toboggan_MD. Incorrect. They beat Real in July 2021, 3 years ago, hardly last season! Gerrard was still the Manager ffs! 🤣 There is absolutely zero parallel between that victory over a depleted Real side (they had a man sent off too) in front of a full Ibrox, and us going to the US and winning all three games comfortably in the sweltering heat; beating two top English sides back to back for the first time ever.
      As stated last week, the importance of building momentum and confidence in our play again, after how poorly we performed last season, is everything. As also demonstrated with Scotland’s pre Euros friendlies, all matches do in fact matter, especially when we are (over the last 20 years) pretty poor at beating teams outside of Scotland.
      There is no such thing as a conventional ‘Friendly’ anymore, they are all competitive games, hence flying half way around the world to play the matches, in our case. Yes, there is no extrinsic reward; 3 points or big prize money, but the intrinsic desire to go out and not only compete with far better opposition, but to beat them comfortably is a major psychological boast for the players, as Rodgers touched on.
      Had we lost these games, you would likely be whining; calling out the players and Rodgers and dreading the season starting etc. Therefore, it’s pretty bizarre for any Celtic fan to try and take the gloss off what was a fantastic tour full of optimism and clear progression.

Ah but she has a perfectly legitimate point too & I would completely make NO comparisons from way back in the day, 1966 to be precise, when we also had a ''fantastic'' pre-season tour of the USA & it certainly wouldn't have been anywhere near the ''competitive & quality'' level of this one in 2024 & Stein & the players ALWAYS said just how crucial & pivotal their 1966 pre-season American tour was as to what followed in May 1967 & although a similar outcome is NEVER EVER going to occur in May 2025, how EXACTLY are Kuhn, Palma & others I still completely don't rate, going to perform over eight games at the very highest level in Europe after the excitement of USA 2024?

    Holm is not as good in preseason as you think. If your only talking about the US games maybe. If you can't bring it against Queens PArk you need to go out on loan and show yourself, he didn't even look interested in the game against QP. I really think there is a great player in there, but way too green for first team, some of the Academy players are technically better, that's a difference in development. Celtic need to send him to a team with a manager who can develop him, might be different now if we brought him into the Academy at 17 or 18 but basically because of his youth development he kind of needs to be kept back a year in school. If O'Riley does go, I think the best replacement we have for him is Calum McGregor, I'd like to see Iwata start and let Cal play the way he plays best, attacking midfielder. Remember Calmac when Broon was still captain? I'd much rather see him in that position.

      The time to judge Holm is in competitive games. A bounce game vs Queens Park is an irrelevance.
      He needs to play first team football and if he's not going to get it regularly with us this season, then I agree he should be loaned out.

    • @KevingrahamCCC
      @KevingrahamCCC Месяц назад +1

      that's the problem with pre-season. the games can become shapeless messes when changes are made and it depends when the player gets on the park or the reasoning for him being on the park

      @@Mantis_Toboggan_MD. Holm is 22 years of age in a few months time & Lawal is also in his 22nd year & so these guys are just NOT wee 17 year old kids anymore & so when Rodgers was basically questioning their attitude & application with some of his recent public statements about them, it is now ALL down to these two to completely prove Rodgers wrong, but if they're walking aboot Lennoxtown with that ''poor attitude'' that Rodgers most rightly detests, or some completely misplaced sense of entitlement & they actually believe they are far better than they actually are, it just isn't going to happen for them & the blame for that will ALL be on their moody & sulky shoulders....

    • @frankbrennan1619
      @frankbrennan1619 Месяц назад +1

      O'Riley just has to go in this transfer window so we get the best possible price for him, but of course he can ONLY go if there is a Club oot there who will actually pay the £25 million or so that Celtic want for him & to date, there's been no big queue forming in Kerrydale Street desperate to buy him, with only wee Southampton from the multi - billion EPL & Atalanta reported to have expressed some kind of ''serious'' interest, so we wait & watch on that particular one & as for now in his 32nd year Wee Callum, his very best days are now completely behind him apart from an isolated exception or two at a wee SPFL level, but forget it when it comes to playing at the very highest level in Europe as we will see yet again in the Champions League...
