GoPro Labs is such a great initiative. So many useful features!
This is so cool, at least i know my Gopro lens wouldnt spoil after executing this
Wow... so much to learn 🫠
I got this to work, thanks GoPro team! The set up was very wonky, but I figured it out. I want to give some advice to the team for the future:
1. First, in order for the GoPro to recognize the QR code, I had to remove the Max Lens 2.0 and turn off Max Lens mode, then reinstall it after the QR code was scanned.
2. There was no warning that after scanning the QR code, the GoPro would turn off after about 7 seconds and stay off until eclipse time. I thought the software update bricked my GoPro at first. This should have been made more clear.
3. It wanted to start the eclipse time lapse within the next 24 hours of scanning the QR code and there was no mention of this. I had done this two days before the eclipse, so when I checked my battery the day before, it had done the sequence and gone from 100% to 29%! I'm so glad I checked because this would have completely ruined the experience on eclipse day if my battery was only 29%.
4. I'm happy with the overall result, but I'm a bit disappointed that it had to be broken up into 3 distinct videos (before, during, and after totality). This means I can't watch a continuous time lapse of the full eclipse like the Moon's shadow moving across the sky. I really wish it could have captured that.
Thank you for your feedback. GoPro Labs is rather experimental and not focused on a polished user experience. So we definitely should have encouraged more practice, as there were so many new Labs users as a result of the eclipse. 1) Our error, we should have included a script with Max Len Mod 2.0 support. 2) Agreed, Labs does shutdown fast, as it does a lot of battery extension optimization. 3) Agreed, your practice, and checking the results, saved your capture. 4) They needed to be separate clips that you edit together, as the dynamic range for solar eclipse going into totality is massive, there is no single mode on the camera support it. On the GoPro Labs discussion forum, data is being collection to improve for future eclipse timelapses.
@@0dan0 Thanks for the reply! Overall, it was awesome. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, the dynamic range of totality is massive so I totally get that. And looking back through my footage, I should be able to make it a bit more seamless with a cross dissolve effect. I'm really happy to have had anything from the GoPro that could have captured this, so thank you!
hello, great video, I have a strange problem with the gopro 12, when it is in 4k 60 f HDR, the stabilization stops and after that the image freezes and the seconds still go by and the latest version is 2.20
How do you prevent the GoPro from overheating if it has to be in the sunlight?
You can't gopros r a pos
You are outside, and time-lapse or night-lapse captures are low energy modes, they will run as long as you have power.
Do you have to press record or it starts by itself ? (Assuming you have scanned the QR code)
Have a bunch of spare batteries on hand, lol! It is the GoPro way :P
Or a power bank... Much easier!
Whit hero 9 Blacky ?
So why does my samsung note20 ultra need a lens protection but the gopro lens doesn't? Curious
Cuz go pro is better in video
Now that's what I wanted answers on too
I couldn't get it to work so I manually did it. Now every time I turn it on, I get a message about that firmware. How do I get rid of it?
Does gopro 8 have these options
All gopros r the same pos don't let them fool u. Buy dji
6 has them
So what is the best time to set up and start recording ?🤔
After the eclipse has passed
@@orlandovega6958 LOL
Looks like a lot of work, but worth it. So no need for a solar filter?
Correct, no solar filter required for the GoPro (but for you, yes.)
@@0dan0 Agreed. I need my eyes.
En español?
and for go pro 8? xD
This bricked my Hero 8. 🤬 Now it wont stay on. It only attempts to start up and then turns off right away. I cant even install the original firmware. WTF!!!!
wouldnt the sun fry the lens pointing it at the sun
What about Hero 9
HERO9 has Night Lapse, so you can use the same settings, just with a resolution your camera supports.
@@0dan0 photo or video and do I bump the zoom to 2.0?
@@WilliamsPhotosVideos The sun will be small with a GoPro wide lens, so do not zoom, as what happen around you is more interesting as totality begins and ends. Shoot as wide as possible is likely best. At 4K the sun is will only be around 16-18 pixels (at 2x zoom only ~35 pixel across.)
@@0dan0 alright I’ll give it a try with the lens that it came with, was gonna try a
UV ND Filter. But might not work
@@WilliamsPhotosVideos No need for UV or ND, neither will add any image enhancement.
I just placed a GoPro 12 on the a small tripod into the gras, set it to 4K, wide, linear, horizon stabilization, normal 30fps video and was surprised by this great result: ruclips.net/video/FYVPN2e5o5c/видео.html
With the normal video recording you have the advantage to capture the nature sound changing during the eclipse.
Yes bc everybody wants to see a solar eclipse througha fish bowl...
Yea I know I do
It has the option to disable the fish-eye view.
The fuck is your problem why are you on this video then 😭😭😭
Again, another useless video by someone who thinks they are just the smartest. I held my GoPro up to the QR code and NOTHING happens. Yes I have labs installed. Are you supposed to be recoding the image, take a picture or what????? How can you leave out such a MAJOR step!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed. Doesn't really give a good step by step
@@davidchaves8952 I just spent the last hour getting my GoPro 10 Hero back into the state I had it before trying all this crap. First, I found the information to setup my GoPro 10 to run without batteries and straight from USB. Something the A-Holes at GoPro totally F'up. Why wouldn't you do that??????? At any rate, I kept getting prompted for updating the firmware, so I finally gave in. Well guess what, that totally blew away the use without batteries. So now I had to search for the firmware to back it back down. This took 20 minutes or so. When I finally got this setup, my mode for the Dash Cam was completely gone so I had to redo that. I also lost connection from my Samsung Phone with the GoPro app and had to do that over. All this with just trying to get a SIMPLE setup for recording todays eclipse.
Are these people patting themselves on the back for their posts? Going around bragging how many hits they get to the friends to impress them or what?
How to capture solar eclipse on gopro:
Throw it away.
Go buy a real camera or a drone
Gopros are action cameras stop using them for videography.
Btw the batteries in these high dollar pos wont last long enough to record the whole thing...
Gopros suck.
If u need a real action camera buy a dji osmo!!!!
Give us $4000 then we will buy these "real" cameras.
