This seems like a really fun challenge! Endings that are missing a "wow" factor and POV switches that end up confusing always throw me off, too...these sound like interesting premises other than that, though!
I loved seeing your critical brain at work! This really allowed me to see the pros and cons of these books as you read them, and I can't wait to see what you think of your competitors' recs for the next two weeks as well!
I laughed when you said it felt like you'd been reading Nightbirds for 20 years, because that is spot on! I like that we both felt similar about the books, but came at them in different ways.
Oh my gosh! I hated the way the author used different terms for the titles. It was so confusing because Dame and Sire are terms that exist with different meanings!!! Especially putting it in a "Jazz" setting made using the title Dame wrong so infuriating!
They both are! I think they kept me going and interested! I liked Isles of the Gods a bit more, but that is normal to me because of the premise of the book!
I feel that reading burnout atm, loved hearing what you thought, I think Nightbirds is definitely going to be a miss for me, sounds like it's frustrating, can't wait to watch the other weeks 🤗

I have never heard of either of those books- they sound like interesting premises!
