I am a huge Magneto fan, and so will be running him exclusively in leadership to stay true to his source material (unless there are very compelling arguments to do otherwise!). One of the most powerful low-key abilities in the game, in my experience, is the ability to recycle strong cards back into the deck. This both slows down the rate of giving the villain encounter cards due to decking out, and effectively increases the number of 'good' cards per deck cycle. In particular, being able to selectively recycle can be immense. As an example, with Wasp, being able to flip down (I run her in Justice, mainly to exploit bumping up her thwart to then distribute how I wish upon a basic activation) and cycle in Prof X if confusion is needed, Vivian if I need to turn off a problematic side scheme that triggers upon defeat (of which there are many in the Age of Apocalypse campaign overall), maybe Ironheart as a cheap blocker, or Fury for card draw, never mind her signature cards on demand, is potent. I imagine with Magento this style of play could be even more effective. With X-Mansion and Mutant Education, alongside his alter-ego ability, being able to recycle key cards as the situation requires could be phenomenal. I think Pixie could be very strong with him, solely based on his AE ability. Noble Sacrifice is also a potentially effective way of getting a desired ally into the discard pile, so that the flip-down is even more effective. Overall, I agree that his event cards so far are perhaps more situational than most, however when said situations arise, these events are amazing. This situational effectiveness lends itself well to a style of play where those cards can be recycled, as needed, when required. Coupled with what will likely be a very resource-dense way of paying for his events (a la Deft Focus, assuming many are superpowers, as the article implies, X-Gene, his Helmet, and X-Jet), he will likely often be able to pay for two + events per turn. Lastly, the densification of his deck with his tools, alongside something like Mutant Education, further mitigates the negative drawbacks to his Magnetic Pull ability. Great video Nelson, thanks again for the good content!
as someone who hasnt the time or the creativity to create new decks (or cant decide WHAT to play) i really like this videos and would whish one for every hero :D
All great ideas! I think the Cyclops ally might be my favorite part of the pack 😂 love the character, love the art, love the card effect! Also glad to see our mutual affection for Quicksilver thought of the same pairing, but you inspired me with HOW good it could be!
The Quicksilver deck's idea is rad, but it is also incredibly expensive! To play Cyclops twice (first time + Make the Call) you must pay something like 8 ER. Maybe 1 form Friction Resistance, maybe 1 extra card from Alter Ego, maybe another copy of Rapid Response in hand instead of Make the Call (1 ER less). However you havo to build a lot more (Helicarrier, Quincarrier, Avenger Mansion, etc) or it's gonna be diffucult to play some Always Be Running too.
Oh 100% agree, I think the main deck idea is that Cyclops is going to be great with Quicksilver - the comboing shenanigans I think is more of a challenge to myself!
For deck 2? It was initially “Magneto goes home” but I think I have used that one before so I changed it to Hall of Heroes because I was hoping to trigger it a ton!
