Selene was the Black Queen. She was a Psychic Vampire and could control people. This is why she gets rid of an ally or they can't attack her, I believe.
Think I slightly misread Won't Stay Down, I thought it was repeatable for some reason. But it's discard, not exhaust. Still a very interesting card though with some strong potential!
Yeah, I was wondering why you thought it was so incredible. :) It seems solid, but I'm not entirely sold on it. You need to play it, and then you need to have an ally you want to pick up in your discard pile, and then you need to not have other cards you want to play more, and then you need to be in alter-ego. And you can only have one in play at a time so having multiple in your deck is iffy. I often play my X-Men flip-heavy so I'm sure I'll use this, but it doesn't seem overwhelmingly good to me. Cyclops on the other hand is a solidly top-tier ally. In a big multiplayer game that extra damage can probably get into the double digits without even building for it, just from basic attacks, attack events, and a couple of allies.
@@Anondod It pairs well with X-23 getting Honey Badger back. That was my main thought with Won't Stay Down. Instead of faffing around with shuffling Honey Badger back into the deck, you can just get her back immediately. It's a nice alternative to Suit Up, since Won't Stay Down can sit on the board until you need it. Suit Up is either something you hold onto or hope you draw it when you need it.
I'm liking the Cyclops ally with my favorite hero X-23. Adding an extra point of damage to every attack she is stringing together may lead to new 'damage done in one turn' records.

I'm so excited for this hero pack. Jean and Cyclops will bring Storm's leadership deck to a whole new level. In case you missed it, the article did specify that all 15 of Magneto's cards will have the magnetic trait. And Selene is a sort of immortal vampire villain. She consumes the souls of others to extend her lifespan. If I remember right, her durability should make her very difficult to hurt with an average attack. An ally just isn't going to cut it. 4/5 for theme on her textbox and 5/5 for the theme of her boost effect. I'm disappointed that this probably means we won't get a Hellfire Club scenario pack. They are my favorite X-men villains. Shaw and Selene are very well designed here, though.
So the "New" trait is a play on those new recruits being characters that were introduced during the New X-Men and New Mutants comic series' in the early 2000s. If you read Anole's traits together, it becomes New X-Men, so its definitely a reference. Some other New X-Men that are already in the game are Dust, Pixie, and Rockslide. I would expect that maybe the other 3 New Allies that will be alongside Anole will be Surge, Mercury, and Hellion
Noble Sacrifice is also really nice against the enemies that punish you for chump blocking, which we're seeing more and more of. Also really want to try it with Drax.
With the hero ability, his whole kit being magnetic and how discountable his cards are (helmet, deft focus) I actually think Magneto will have a great economy and despite nothing really standing out yet be quite a strong hero playable in any aspect. The cyclops leadership ally looks incredible, can't wait to add this to my Starlord deck and put some villains in the dirt.
Now that we have so many "mandatory" X and Mutant cards to run, it's time to return to Avengers and give the original heroes of the game a big boost in supports and other goodies...
They are holding back some key Magneto cards...I can feel it. I think he's going to be a blast to play with the economy jump started right out the gate
Definitely excited for Magneto - I really enjoy what his mechanics look like (I still wish it was Beast though). I like Noble Sacrifice quite a bit for him, since you can use it to discard an ally (and heal/get a tough), flip down, and shuffle that ally back with his response. Flipping down after healing and getting a tough is a little bit meh but it could be useful in some situations. The main card for me here is definitely Cyclops. Running Cyclops in an X-23 deck seems just stupid. Having a turn with Cyclops, Claw Mastery, using her claws for the +2 atk, and some readies on Honey Badger just seems stupidly insane. Like, that should not be allowed. Phoenix also looks really good for X-23, readying/healing Honey Badger is always great and having that 2 THW can let you focus more on attacking with X-23/Honey Badger.
I wanted Beast, but I liking his mechanics, and really liking the Leadership cards. We might able to guess most of his kit based on the Villian version treacheries, and other upgrades, thinking about the Bubble. 32:00 I like Phoenix with X-23 to heal and ready Honey Badger. 40:15 You could play Nick Fury and draw into this to sacrifice him for +3 HPs and a tough. more value than a chump block?
Excited for a new hero as always, but I regret that I start to see a trend regarding alter-ego abilities. Lately they seem to all be "search your deck for x or shuffle x cards into you deck", I dont really care for the lack of creativity, alter ego abilities should feel more unique.
I can see that! I like that the alter ego abilities are increasing the consistency that you can interact with the rest of their kit which feels pretty thematic - but totally get where you’re coming from

@@VillainTheory I thought they already had ruled this in Neb vs Neb = Allowable. But any self-Neb reference belongs to the Neb from the same deck. EG: Enc cards ref Neb means Villain Neb where possible. And Hero cards ref Neb means Player Neb where possible. Also otherwise taking the *Grimm* rule into account - worst case choice must be made.
Me and my buddy were discussing if Magneto will have a signature ally to Sidekick with or not. Sidekick leadership has been the most played build for my heroes, without compare.
It doesn't look like it. Signature Allies are normally card #1 in the hero set, but in this case Asteroid M takes that spot. Signature location supports are only #1 if there is no Ally, otherwise they are #2 in the pecking order
I personally don't think Won't stay down is nearly as good as you guys are hyping it up to be, to me even if I'm playing it on another turn it just feels like your making an ally cost effectively two more for an on play effects. I can definitely see some use but I only see it as being on par with what we already have in leadership at most.
Wish they did the armless M outfit instead of the imo ugly white suit but I’m glad he’s a hero But also making new heroes while Captain America and Doctor Strange still need reprints is insane, what are you doing FFG

She is Shadowcat's nemesis minion already, so it's possible they don't include her in the encounter set. I hope they do, though. Strangely, the nemesis Emma is not hellfire traited.
So Magneto is actually underwhelming to me. Aside from discarding his own deck, he doesn't actually do anything unique. And his ability makes him super kit focused and he has no aspect synergy that we are shown, which can get boring fast. Power level is fine (I agree with VT that metal shards is better than it appears) and the Leadership stuff is cool. The one saving grace is there are like 5-6 unique unrevealed cards.
I have to admit I am kinda disappointed with this. I would have preferred him in a villain wave where we get villains as heroes and hero scenarios. I really think either keeping the 50/50 split with Emma or just going with Beast would have been better. We don't even get an Emma Frost ally
I bet a few waves later, they will have a "return to" type expansion like Mad Titan's Shadow, which had guardians and Avengers that were missed. Or it could be another One off wave like Sinister Motives to cap off the xmen. To be fair, there are hundreds of xmen, and it'd be silly thinking that they are gonna be able to get every player's favorite character added to this game.

I do realize they can't get to all but having Magneto while still having 2 really popular main X-Men is disappointing, plus I really like the 50/50 male/female split and everytime they ignore it a hero I really want who would almost certainly have been the other hero is left out. (Sniff Mantis sniff)
I'm happy for him to be a hero but the lack of Emma and Beast does hurt, Beast especially as one of the originals. I was also half-expecting Mystique too. At least there's a chance for a solid X-Men box again further down the line with well-known heroes still. Fingers-crossed!

Spider-Ham & Ironheart have cards checking for other cards from ID set, and are not using the ID name in bold. Not thrilled to see yet more 'S-tier' (do we need to make a tier above 'S'?) Leadership X-men stuff. Makes me think we are seeing the finale of MC. RIP. :(
I will say I overrated Won't Stay Down a lot due to a misunderstanding. Cyclops is good but is a combo card, you can't just play it and do well. Definitely not the finale! There was a livestream today and Tony made a point of saying they've got some amazing stuff lined up and that he's excited for the future!

There is probably a rule against it but a Magneto vs Magneto would be interesting. You know due to a mishaphe splits into two?

Similar but different. Shaw absorbs energy to get stronger and faster, while Bishop fires the absorbed energy back out.

I don't mind a more balanced, less OP out of the box hero.
Kind of neat aside Beast, Jean, and Cyclops all being basic and Angel being Basic means Iceman can run a O5 leadership deck

He looks cool, and his mechanic looks like one I'm going to have a lot of fun with, but I still wish it had been Beast.

This is… pretty okay. Great for consistency & new players, but a little uninspired.
I kinda settled here too except there's hope. We've only seen around half his cards, so I'm hoping for some more stuff we can sink our teeth into!
