Happy Holidays, wishing you the best in 2025 ❤ On a sad note I just learned 😢unfortunately President Jimmy Carter passed away, very dear to my wife and I, sorry but a just thought I share this.
Hi Chanel!!! I'm a Chinese living in Argentina. I fully understand your emotions in the video. Last week, I experienced the same ups and downs. I miss the festive atmosphere in China very much. Almost every store and mall is filled with a strong festive atmosphere. I just went out with my friends and do some window shopping, its very happy. But the situation here is different. During the holiday season, even many shops are closed, like I can't even buy the food I want to eat. This makes me a little overwhelmed. I cried for hours at home😂 and I miss family very much. So last week, I went to La Boca and returned to being a tourist, going to places I haven't been before and doing things that tourists would do. This made me feel like I had fallen in love with Argentina again. I just want to share with you, I completely understand my feelings! Give you a hug, hoping that in 2025 we can all explore more new things here
Such is life in Bs As; it's dead In summer. In summer time most commercial and human activity moves to what we call "la costa" = the coast, which means all the resort towns on the South Atlantic Ocean.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for sharing!! The homesickness especially around this time of year is hard and I agree that doing some touristy activities helped me a lot too ❤️❤️
@@marianomartinez3008 You're really ridiculous. Which sentence did I say that I don't like Argentina? I just state the differences of the country and I miss my hometown/family. Is there a problem? Argentina is a great country, even though the current economic situation here is not good and prices are very high. But Argentina's cuisine and natural scenery are very amazing. Every country has its own good and bad, and everyone has the right to express their opinions. Do I have to be expelled from this country if I say something bad? jajaja
You made me sad too just watching you get emotional since I spent alone both Christmas and New Year (dead parents, not far away parents, but the sentiment is the same). Wishing you two and everyone who misses someone a great end of the year. Feliz año nuevo ! ☺
Yep! The shopping security bag is a must pretty much everywhere because of “mecheras”. Here in Chubut you either get those in a big supermarket or they force you to leave your stuff in a locker at the door
The dollar exchange rate in Argentina has been a rollercoaster ride since I can remember. Chanel and Mike hang in there and keep enjoying the city (Christmas time is always hard for people that emigrated; so much nostalgia!) Thank you for your blog that brings a little of Buenos Aires back to me and Feliz Año Nuevo!!! (btw: El Ateneo in Florida street for many, many years was the only El Ateneo store in Buenos Aires. To me it's the original one. I love it for its architecture and the memories.)

Thanks for the update on your life. I'm glad you and Michael got to connect with your family members virtually on Christmas. The gift your mom sent you was very nice--it's clear that even though you are far from your family, they are still thinking about you. If you decide to go back to New York next holiday season, I am sure your followers would love to see the vlogs. Thanks again for sharing!

My dear girl. I apologise for some of my fellow Argentians who are having arguments about politics in your chat. There is a big gap in Argentina regarding politics. I don't know if it is as bad between Republicans and Democrats in USA, but here the gap is huge and people get very upset while arguing. Saying that, I know that Argentina is more expensive now for expats but it was a necessary change for us, Argentinians. I wanted to tell you that it is very hard to spend Christmas far from family. It brings up a lot of memories and it is the time of the year when we treasure moments, share love and talks with our love ones. From the bottom of my heart I tell you that I am sorry that you have to go through this but what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. I send you all my love and understanding. All the blessings for this New year, happy thoughts, good health, prosperity and tons of love. Happy New year.
Hi Chanel! I really love your videos. You covered so many points of interest today. I’m very thankful. I really hope to get there someday, but in the meantime there are your videos. I’m learning so much. I think Buenos Aires is amazing! I find that your videos are the best & most realistic about what it is like to live there. I look forward to you traveling outside of the capital eventually, which will also be very interesting I think. You should really get an award for the quality of your work. Please continue what you’re doing. Thank you!
Chanel, I just got back from Baires where I travel twice a year. I Am from NY and currently living in CA. Although prices went up in the last year, i still find Baires more affordable than USA. You can rent an apartament for $500-600 in a nice área. For that money, you can only rent a room in a shared apartament in NY. Can you get a coffee for $2 , a steak at a restaurant for $15 in NY? Just to give you 2 simple examples. You just need to walk and find more affordable places to eat and do groceries. When you go to NY, Buy your sneakers there and your electronics; and you will be fine

Happy New Year Chanel! Great to see one of my favorite joints featured. I really like to recommend Lo De Carlitos to all non-argentineans since it's not a place that is marketed to tourists, but it's a pretty good representative of the argentine culture (and outside of the typicial asado-centric places). It's too bad that the original place in Vicente Lopez is no more, as it had a gigantic menu and a very special old-timey atmosfere. Regarding food items to bring to and from the US, I think it's something that's not discussed enough! Here are some items that I would consider: ARG -> US: Bizcochos de grasa, yerba, alfajores, dulce de leche US -> ARG: Maple syrup, beef jerky, mini pretzels
The first time I experienced Christmas as an expat in Europe was quite depressing too at first, I totally understand what you're going through. But next time I think will just return home for the holidays.
Great video guys!!! Its normal to be sad during the holiday season when you live abroad Channel. Even when you live for many years abroad that feeling remains Actually the melancolic spirit of the tango comes from the inmigramts in Argentina missing their born places but living abroad also gives you many great things and experiences that makes you grow If you can organize a visit to NY every holiday season or even during the year it will be great !!! I'd just reccomend to avoid the departure after December 17th because the tickets get too pricy
the thing with the lockers or the bags is a safety precaution. because there is a lot of shoplifting. It is a thing on other parts of Argentina. Businesses ensure that you don't carry something unpaid in your bag. Some experts in that have the "ability to steal things from their clothes. But the bag thing makes it more difficult.
Yep! I totally understand why it is in place, in the US I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my bag in a locker or in a bag so here in BA was my first time experiencing it
@@chanelmeyerr Yeah, I am from Corrientes. and here are those too on some places. but I avoid it every time. I can because I usually I bring a bag or a handbag with me and is. I don´t know the word to engorroso. it is engorroso to do it every time when one is out for shopping on diferent places. On some places I can get in on others some security people ask that I let my bags on the lokcers.
If I were already in San Telmo looking for chori on a nice sunny day, i would just go ahead and cross to the costanera and have it looking out to the reserva ecologica/river :)
In case you are interested in reading books in English, there is a very cute bookshop in Belgrano R (Conde 1990) called "Kel" that is worth the visit. Very nice neighbourhood by the way.
Hi Chanel how are you happy Sunday afternoon to you and I hope you having amazing day and you are amazing supporter happy new year to you and I hope that 2024 brings you a love
Hello chanel! So the small markets that don't have thoose machines with sensors in the main door normally gonna ask you to leave the bag in a locker or behind the checkout counter. For example if you usually go to dia they don't ask for that cuz they have those machines. About "sabores express" they were in the news a few days ago cuz police raided some branches and find a big amount of undeclared money and illegal GUNS!! like shotguns.. so its funny that they found such a shady things in that kind of shop!!! So, Happy new year from a gossip guy!
I want to visit BA soon for a week. What should I do and know so I have a great time? Not so much places to visit but rather logistics and house keeping things so I don’t wish I had known about them before I arrived. Thank you. Love your content.
Outside of the money things I mentioned in this video I'd say download "Cuando Subo" or "moovit" to help with public transportation, if you're coming in summer be prepared for possible mosquitos (bring your own repelent). If you're looking for restaurants on google maps prices may not be up to date or you may not be able to find a current menu, this is where finding a restaurant's instagram helps. (Also tipping is ~10% if you wish) If you need an international phone chip while you're here I suggest going to Claro in Alto Palermo (bring your passport) and they will get you one there. Have fun!!
Clearly it's the expected move, spend Christmas and New Year's there because your family and the way of celebrating them is totally different... but the rest of the year in Argentina. Hey, you have to come back and keep living here.. pinky promise hahah
12:30 some things have changed, yes. the “official” exchange rate used to be an unrealistic 60% lower, and with the changed implemented by the new president, it has caught up to the “blue” exchange rate. Things are more expensive, yes, but they are expected to cheapen (when converted to US dollar) and it has become easier and much less of a scam to buy stuff with your US dollar credit card, like you said yourself, you don’t carry cash and stopped using Western Union because using your card is worth it now. lots of exciting changed await us Argentinians happy new year!
I'm watching and seeing if I was in these. Lol I have been here since November. I was at this place a couple of weeks ago. My cousin was helping a lady with a camera. What that you?
The economic instability of the last few years made Bs As super affordable in dollars but as the situation gets back to normal it will get pricy, it’s not a historically cheap city by any means (except rent perhaps vs US or EU).
Safety tips are intended for people who come from rural areas. Everyone living in a 16/17 million metropolitan area knows that they shouldn't put their money in back pockets, no matter where in the world you are.
If you think things are expensive in Argentina…don’t come to Canada! Lol. I’m spending about $2500/month CAD just on groceries, for two people. It’s insane. Trying to arrange things to move to AR this year!
If paying by credit card, you may want to ask whether the business charges an extra fee. Yes, prices are up a lot recently for many foreigners as the US$ has devalued (I hear by 2/3rds ! in the last 18 months !).
We drink tap water at home unfiltered and order bottle water when we’re out but I think it’s relatively safe to drink although many recommend to drink filtered water
It's drinkable without a problem but it doesn't taste good at all unfortunately so, some people ended up buying bottled water. Another option it's to buy that kind of purifier that you can connect to the tap and it filtered the bad taste and increase the quality.
I’ve noticed in many expat groups they mentioned how expensive Buenos Aires is getting for restaurants and transportation. Do expat jobs increase salaries on a regular basis ?
BA is not the best place to spend the holidays, especially if your family is so far away. I told you guys before; holidays, you have to go back home and I'm from Buenos Aires and I can't even feel the spirit of Christmas when I have to spend the holidays there. US is a completely different place. You can feel the magic of the holidays the minute you walk out your door. And if you add family gatherings that's the whole package. Cry if you feel so Chanel, let the emotions run their course but next year you know what you have to do, greetings from Lake Limerick, WA
The holidays are always a hard time when we are far away, just grab a plane and go to NYC don’t wait that long, u need it and it’s fine. To hell with the rest.
If one day you come to visit the city of Rosario (cradle of the flag, city of Messi, Che Guevara, Fito Paez, etc etc) let me know if you want and I will be happy to show you the city!
If I come to Argentina on a student visa to learn Spanish and stay in a hostel, how much will it cost me there? can I afford my living and food expenses to work there part or full time ? pls pls reply it will help me a lot and this is my life turning point.
What happens is that these holidays are pure marketing, it is pure commerce, materialism, mass consumption, and that is why other countries decorate all businesses to attract customers and increase sales. In Argentina, merchants are not so excessively devourers of people's pockets during these holidays.
The bag thing is national because of the lack of honesty hshahs

best regards from Poland. I visited BA in 2021 (4 months trip). This city is AWESOME!
❤️❤️❤️ Gracias for sharing this!
Remember to use sunscreen!
😂😂😂 I know I got burned so badly!!
the thing with the lockers or the bags is a safety precaution. because there is a lot of shoplifting.
Gracias!!
¡Excelente 2025 para los 4!
Les deseo mucha salud, laburo (trabajo), amor y felicidad.
¡Saludos!
Feliz año!! 🎉Que tengas todo lo que deseas ❤️❤️
Hi Chanel how are you happy Sunday afternoon to you and I hope you having amazing day and you are amazing supporter happy new year to you and I hope that 2024 brings you a love
happy New Year..guys.best wishes .🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year!
felicidades !!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy new year’s🎉🎉🎉🎉 have you been to JAY’S American in Palermo??????
Loved Michael's Funkos lol
Also, have you tried any casa de pasta yet?
Hello chanel! So the small markets that don't have thoose machines with sensors in the main door normally gonna ask you to leave the bag in a locker or behind the checkout counter. For example if you usually go to dia they don't ask for that cuz they have those machines.
About "sabores express" they were in the news a few days ago cuz police raided some branches and find a big amount of undeclared money and illegal GUNS!! like shotguns.. so its funny that they found such a shady things in that kind of shop!!!
So, Happy new year from a gossip guy!
Visit other place of Argentina. Try to go to the Calafate and see the Perito Moreno. You will love it. ❤
Rincon Norteno's Locro is really good
I want to visit BA soon for a week.
Have fun!!
Sabores express seems to be the single unifying constan of every neighborhood in the city no joke
Chanel whe you want to buy a choripan , just go to the costanera there are a lot of food truks and there are delicius.
Happy new year wish you the best 2025 here in Argentina
Thank you! And Happy New Year to you too! 🎉🫶🏻
Clearly it's the expected move, spend Christmas and New Year's there because your family and the way of celebrating them is totally different... but the rest of the year in Argentina. Hey, you have to come back and keep living here.. pinky promise hahah
😂😂 Haha yes!!
12:30 some things have changed, yes. the “official” exchange rate used to be an unrealistic 60% lower, and with the changed implemented by the new president, it has caught up to the “blue” exchange rate. Things are more expensive, yes, but they are expected to cheapen (when converted to US dollar) and it has become easier and much less of a scam to buy stuff with your US dollar credit card, like you said yourself, you don’t carry cash and stopped using Western Union because using your card is worth it now. lots of exciting changed await us Argentinians
happy new year!

Wow the costs have risen so much since my last visit. How do you do it as a teacher? Do they increase your salary to meet the higher cost of living
Yes! And usually they’ll tell us if we have to pay more with the card usually it’s around 10%
BIG question.. can you drink water in Argentina? Is it safe to order drinks with ice ?
We drink tap water at home unfiltered and order bottle water when we’re out but I think it’s relatively safe to drink although many recommend to drink filtered water
It's drinkable without a problem but it doesn't taste good at all unfortunately so, some people ended up buying bottled water. Another option it's to buy that kind of purifier that you can connect to the tap and it filtered the bad taste and increase the quality.
wen things get hard surraunded with friends. it will be easier.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video,
Now everyone is moving to Brazil for the prices lol
Cheers
Habrá vlog navideño?
No:(
I’ve noticed in many expat groups they mentioned how expensive Buenos Aires is getting for restaurants and transportation.
Crying is ok ❤
Is buenos aires safe?
🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 Y sí estoy de acuerdo jaja!!
altos funko pops del final
😊😊😊
I am going to Argentina , can I use dollars to shopping or in a restaurant ?
US dollars? I have never done this. Some few local places may allow this, but I wouldn't count on it
22:11😆😆😆
The holidays are always a hard time when we are far away, just grab a plane and go to NYC don’t wait that long, u need it and it’s fine. To hell with the rest.
Flying to NYC is expensive, bro...
I'd love to be friends with you guys!
❤❤❤❤❤🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🙌🙌🙌🙌
Feliz Año Nuevo! 🎊
The first one speaks decent English! Anyway there are better destinations in the world from the UK.
Buenos Aires is more safe than New York!
mi gusto over sabores express any day
My fave is brozziano 😋
The bag thing is national because of the lack of honesty hshahs
Chanel!! Everyone leaves the city during vacation time, you are about to seee an empty city day after day, I recommend an Airbnb in Mar del plata. LEAVE THE CITY, trust me!! Pinamar, Mar del Tuyú, Mar de Ajó, al of them are good options. TRUST ME, Leave the city!!!
EDIT: My mother is old, I need her to leave for ever, I miss her every day.
EDIT2: I hope you guys get your DNIs soon.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ This year we’re planning on traveling more in the country!:)
I like buiding old
WHAT?!?!?!?! 10K for a chori??? are they nuts? I pay 3k for one in a parrilla near my house and they're delicious
I know 😭😭 My local $3k chori is my fave! I can’t justify spending $10k 😭
