I saw the original and I love black and white cinematography and I can't believe I saw couple of youtube reviewers say" B&W is not my thing" !??? What? It's beautiful!!!!

Ripley is a great miniseries . With great acting and cinematography , Andrew Scott is so wonderfull in this show , I think the show deserve some Emmy awards in my opinion . Because everything in this show is top notch quality content 🔍🔍🔍 .
Love it! Filmed in black and white shows off all the beautiful architecture and scenery in these beautiful places.
It is imperative that Andrew Scott receive an Oscar, Globe or Emmy one day. He is utterly brilliant. ❤

I'm thinking the pace was showing his character and creating empathy for him. The meticulousness and difficulty of disposing the bodies made me more invested in him not getting caught. If all he did was easy then who cares. The show really focused on the tasks of climbing the stairs, preparing phoney passports, cheques and letters etc. I loved all the Italian hotel clerks.
Superb. An awesome adaptation of an awesome novel, and loved the fact he had the balls to do it in B&W.
You could almost pic any random screenshot from any episode and you’d have a print you’d be happy to hang on your wall. The cinematography was perfect.
And loved the Caravaggio theme running through the show.

Well done on every level. Casting was superb. So much easier to believe this talented Mr. Ripley sliding into evil deeds then sweet baby faced Matt. One could see his rage being surrounded by these no talent rich kids when he was brilliant cunning, and lacked only the funds
Andrew Scott has succeeded in is mission to be despicable enough to make my skin crawl. I am having a hard time continuing on to the next episode.
brought me back to watching Hitchcock films as a kid, episode 5 was nerve racking AF though!

This was such a beautiful show especially with that black and white but damn was it so slow 😩 could've been done with 5 episodes
I know, right? I appreciated that it took its time with everything, but the first two episodes may as well be just one episode combined.

Talented Mr Ripley with Damon and Law is a great film and one of my all-time favourites, so I was excited about this adaptation and how they will tell Ripley's story again but with a new look and new perspective on the character. I think Andrew Scott was phenomenal as Ripley, a cold, merciless, and conniving con man/killer who clearly was chasing a lavish lifestyle through other people in means to get a satisfaction that he believes he deserves. But what makes this performance stand out to me more than Damon's, even tho I love Damon's portrayal as well, is that this Ripley is completely cold, he is not needy or begs for attention or approval. He is just a bad guy. Some may say a narcisstic sociopath or psychopath. He barely showed any emotion whatosver to the people he hurt or killed, the only thing he cares about is making sure he is in a good place and anything else does not matter unless he is feeling great, other people are just toys in means to get what he wants. But he also appreciates art and life in his own way, but the sad part is that in reality, he is a loner, a runner and seems like he never was truly loved for who he is as a person I mean I could go on and on but I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Oh, and also, he is definitely less charismatic than Damon's version. With Damon's portrayal, he was oozing charisma in this one. Ripley is just a creepy, calculated manipulator with a look of a complete Psycho. Either way, I appreciate both performances and like both of them in they own ways, I think the Damon's movie version is more of a entertaining film but this one is definitely more for film buffs and people who appreciate authenticity, amazing acting, masterful cinematography, outstanding sets and great writing. Also, this one feels like straight out of the book, I imagine reading one of those books and imagining these scenes playing in my head while I am reading one of these pages, this even feels like a book but I can see how this series won't be for everybody and that's understandable. It's a very neo-noir/psychological while the movie was more of a fun thriller. Don't get me wrong the movie was still very well made, but it was definitely more colourful in it's approach and more for mainstream audiences than the show Ripley, I can see some people absolutely be bored by this but I really enjoyed it overall. Would give it a solid 8/10

It was specific from the beginning that it was a mini series. There are 8 Chapters and a Duration of approximately between 50 and 55 min. More than enough

If you can’t cast Andrew Scott then you don’t know direction and acting at all ❤ he is the best as Moriarity he was insane in Sherlock
Utterly and totally briiliant and oustanding masterpiece without a shadow of a doubt ...those who say it is slow are undoubtedly Avengers universe fans hehe
My only mistake was going on to watch the toe curlingly awful Matt Damon and Jude Law ( could watch her forever tho ) version...like eating what our American friends call jello after a Michelin starred dinner :):)
I'm guessing PH could have felt put down by Brits in Europe because Freddie is cast nastily ( has a Brit passport ) and the landlady says she dislikes them ...PH famously ghastly as a person
