Hey everyone, happy Halloween! In today's video I'm attempting to make my Halloween costume this year zero waste, by creating a dark academia themed bunny shironuri look 🐰 Wow that was a mouthful to say. But here's how I tried to make it as zero waste (or sustainable) as possible.
This is a relaunch of my infamous (is it? idk) shironuri 白塗り series which I started in 2016. Now I'm restarting it in a new format, focusing on every part of the process - from the makeup, to sourcing the outfit, plus other stuff I make to complement the costume. I'll also go into any difficulties or discoveries I make along the way. Can't wait to show you what I've been up to!

I commonly focus on topics such as discrimination, sustainability, how consumerism impacts people. As an artist who uses makeup as an art medium, I believe beauty isn't shallow - and I hope to help you make more ethical choices along the way.

i felt the same! halloween is my fave holiday but this year has killed me creatively. i usually paint my face every day of halloween with different looks, but this year i only did one look on halloween day. glad to know i'm not alone!
Didn't know there were white foundations with sustainable packaging! I clicked so fast because I love the sub-culture fashions of japan but I want to be sustainable. And this is such a cute look!
I love this!! The embroidery on the ears is beautiful, the fade is really nice 🐰 also, a tip from someone that sews a lot by hand (I don't have a sewing machine) and also embroiders and cross-stitches: get a metal thimble! It makes your sewing life a whole lot easier :) Abby Cox has a great video on thimbles if you're not sure how to go about getting one that fits you well
Funny you should mention that because I just came across her channel a few days ago! I'll need to look that up x
Love the zero waste aspect of this!
OMFG I can't WAIT for episode.2!!!!
really hope you go out in the world in your looks!! would love to see that
I think you did amazing!
I was going to make myself a karasu-tengu costume (use a jinbei pattern I bought when I lived in Japan, black fabric a friend gave me and thrift some other fabric for the kobakama), but I didn't prepare enough in advance and Inktober, so I just finished a black half-circle pinafore with cat face front pocket, threw on a striped 3/4 sleeve t-shirt I'd made a few years back, black tights and my mini horn hair clippies I bought at a Halloween store while NYC about... 8 years ago? I love them, they're so easy to put on and you forget they're there. To the point where I actually ran an errand to the courthouse for work and I forgot to take them off lol
I love that you didn't bother to mention most of the brands, just described the colors and what you were doing. Yes, using up what we own is always more sustainable! The final look was sooo cute, like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland!
so gorgeous i can't wait for more videos like this!!
Love the bunny ears 🦄
So beautiful! I really want to try my hand at embroidery this year, I just started needle-felting this past month and have fallen in love with textile art. I'm excited to see your future work as always, this was so lovely and calming and as always, informative
Minsooky you are so skilled and this concept is so amazing. I really love your make up and the lighting setup . In addition to that this zero waste approach is splendid. Your 2016 video was the first of it's kind that I've ever come across and made me fall in love with your artistry. Please stay healthy and happy. Much Love, Sugar ❤❤
Why thank you, much more to come of course 🙂
