  • Both of these are phenomenal sanders. It all comes down to which one fits you best! Please comment below which one you prefer and why. If you'd like to see me compare other sanders to these two, let me know!!

    You're the first video I've found that compared the 3M and Festool, thank you. Plenty of 3M v Mirka or Festool v Mirka but no one doing a head to head of these two.

    Risk damaging it by wrapping the cord? I suppose that goes for the other 95% of corded power tools have attached cords.

    3M is JUNK - I have bought 2 of these in the last 5 months and they both died. Read the reviews on the 3M website. I talked to the service people at 3M and they confirmed that there all several design issues with the control board. Stay away.

    When it comes to run down times you are not comparing apples to apples. One is a 5” and the other is a 6”. The larger one has more inertia and will therefore have a longer run down time. I own the 5” 3M and it does have a very slightly longer run down than the Festool, but much shorter than the 6”3M.

      I don't have the 3M, but the Mirka Deros 150/5 does have a much faster brake, it stops very quickly. The 3M in the video looks like it does not have a brake.

      The 5 inch takes about the same amount of time to stop ... maybe a second quicker. Not much.

    Did the 3m require you to power on in to adjust the speed? That seems like a bad design.

    those little accidental turn ons with the 3M paddle is what i don’t like that kind of switch.

    There are many alternatives these days to mirka and 3M and they come with many issues , for a 3rd of the price you can pick up the maxxt sander which they improved on quality control and you get 2 pads 6 and 5 inch and its on par with mirka and 3M but festool is on another league on its own and very dependable brand i own 4 different sanders and they never gave me a problem in 10 years of heavy use but not abuse , my last purchase was the maxxt sander and its been holding amazing and hope it lasts long

    I've got that Festool sander, and the Mirka Deros instead of the 3m, but I am curious about the 3m. It seems over priced tbh. If I'm dropping almost 500 and + on a sander I'd rather it not have its country of origin be Taiwan, but time will tell I suppose on the overall quality of the sander.
    The lack of variable speed in the paddle switch is an odd choice since the 3m is similar to the Metabo, and the Metabo is also similar to the Mirka and surf prep.
    Also not a fan of the cord on the 3m. I much prefer the Festool one cord for most tools, but I have that same complaint with the Mirka. Of course having the Mirka that problem just makes me think I need more Mirka cords lol.
    Also not a fan of needing an attachment to fit Festool hoses sucks because those are the hoses I have LoL. The Festool hose connects nicely to the Mirka without an adapter.
    If I came across one for sub 300 or - I'd be tempted to buy one just to put hands on it.
    Do the Mirka Deros pads fit on it? Do they have a weighted 125mm pad for the 150mm so it is both a 125 and 150 mm 5 stroke sander like the Mirka?

    I dont have a nice sander or dust extractor yet. I was planning to buy the 3M sander, and a festool dust extractor. I did not realize that an adapter was needed.

    I got a feeling that 3M sander is nothing more then a Mirka and its obvious that the 3m sander is quieter because it starts at 4000rpm while the Festool it starts at 6000rpm. The only fault that i can say about the festool is its lowest rpm. Sometimes the 6000rpm ist to much!!!

    • @jimd6192
      @jimd6192 10 месяцев назад

      Even worse, 3m is made in Taiwan and its price is too much for no quality reason. and the mirka in Finland.

    So you failed to talk about the sanding radius which is 3mm on festool but i dont know what 3m is.As an owner of 8 of the festool 6inch i can tell you i wish they were hard wired as the festool connection eventually fails and new cords dont resolve issue

      The plug connector in the handle of the Festool is an easy fix. Iirc it's a sub $20 part and swaps out without much hassle.

    Thank you for the review. Can you tell me what the 2.5 on the top of the paddle means? I've usually seen them with a "5" on the paddle.

    • @vasili70
      @vasili70 Год назад

      That notes the orbit of the sander. It has a 2.5mm orbit. The 5 is a 5mm orbit. Generally speaking, the smaller the orbit, the finer of a finish it delivers. That finer finish does comes at the expense of time. The larger orbit is more aggressive so it is faster, but leaves a little rougher finish.
