dont get me wrong-like always ur video is enjoyable and well researched- but personally- im 36 and I feel insane to judge very young ppl acting like...very young ppl. to judge their behavior in the same way like media as a system but to their individual way they were abused and abuse others now obviously-if its just the way they received love by everyone around them -if they are coping, or just really didnt have time to go to therapy yet to get what is wrong about it...or maybe they still do not grew the strength to understand it..... thats why promoting Hollywood and all this shud be seen for adults as what it is -entertainment on the back of young ppl. what u also mentioned btw -with the millions of dollars someone makes its not excusing an abusive past- by the ppl that shud have protected this past in another but monetary way.

the parallel between jennette mccurdy and jojo is so sad... when i read jennette's book, i thought about jojo and realized she just doesn't understand how toxic is her mother and adults around her. it took jennette a lot of time to understand it in therapy and healing. i wonder if jojo will ever can do the same

I actually know the answer to the "How does asbestos wind up in children's products?" question! The makeup was probably made with Talc (like talcum powder) which is a naturally occurring mineral that is mined. The issue is that where Talc forms, asbestos also usually forms. So if you're mining Talc you're also mining asbestos and there's a whole process that has to happen to clean the asbestos out of the Talc. Wherever the manufacturer was sourcing the Talc for the makeup failed to properly separate the Talc and asbestos, so all the makeup made with that batch of talc was contaminated.

The talc/asbestos connection has been known for decades, which makes it so unforgivable that products are still being made with it. Johnson & Johnson has faced so many lawsuits for keeping talc in their baby powder formulation for years despite knowing that asbestos occurs in talc. They (and other manufacturers of talc based products) did the math and saw it would be more profitable to sell a dangerous but cheaply made product en masse and settle any medical/death lawsuits than to completely reformulate the product.

And guilting her into feeling like she'd be some monster for taking her own money? Evil. Them fearing she'd bolt is clearly then recognizing their abuse and being afraid she'll recognize it, too.
I feel like, while she probably does love her work, there's an element of compulsion and trains behind all that work. As a kid, I tried to always be working (homework, chores, a job, whatever, anything productive) to avoid getting in trouble or triggering abuse. I wonder if she has any similar trauma. @@Vi_Vi_1 I grew up in what I guess the USA considers a small town had a mom dad and older brother. My parents were incredible and even after more than a decade I have to fight back tears because they died too young and even now at 47 I still miss and need them. We were a tight unit best of friends with a healthy respect for their authority. We both played sports and my parents were beyond supportive. we both joined the military when we each hit 17 and they hid their tears and heartache in order to allow us to feel loved and supported while we fulfilled what we both felt was a calling. I say all that just to say I can not nor will I ever relate to or understand the level of mind fuckery JoJo has lived with. I will always believe she stopped maturing around age 9ish. I can say with full confidence that my 11 year old daughter (who used to be a JoJo fan) is more mature, understands what growing up means and so far has thoroughly enjoyed the whole 12 months of each age she has lived. We talk about anything and everything she knows and is comfortable with the fact that she can speak to me or her dad frankly even with rough subjects and she will never and I mean ever be made to feel ashamed or attacked she knows that when the time comes (please not for a long time) I will take her to the gyn hold her hand and request birth control. Jojo believes she is in a loving family that is so worried she will spend ANY of HER money because they already blew through the other 85% of the money so now they need the last 15% and to push her to clown level antics to make them money. A perpetual nine year old drunk on strings that they pull and control. And they don't care about her as a human or a daughter/sister etc. they see money signs dressed in terrible body paint, ugly costumes, bad acting, stealing other people's art, lyrics, music, and voices that's believes that sex/alcohol/swearing at her audience equals adult. Those parents should be investigated for gross negligence, mental, emotional, and I have a feeling physical abuse. She is an actual menace because she doesn't understand the world and how it works. Things could become dangerous she thinks she is a huge popular star on top of all and untouchable also infallible. If you ever see an interview with her watch how she never really answers specific questions. She just ignores and says whatever her mother (who is always lurking within arms reach to keep jojo in line in character and promoting at every second. They couldn't care less about her giving thoughtful intelligent on topic answers. She is a very very very mentally and emotionally ill/challenged/purposely stunted. The sad part is she idolizes this "bangers era" breaking point of Miley Cyrus, without ever understanding what made it reach people like it did. I am only a couple years older then Jojo, I remember that time vividly, it was SHOCKING, because that was the point, to be a complete shock and rebellion against everything she had been previously, not because Miley necessarily needed the money, but because she so desperately wanted to be seen as she was. Jojo isn't doing that. Jojo is not shocking us with something new and authentic, shes just trying to be shocking to be shocking. Her brand has always already been loud and shocking, so it's just getting weirder.
What would have been a shocking flip for Jojo would be to come out with some soft ballads and her new style be ethereal and romantic. We would take her seriously because WOAH- Jojo Siwa singing softly about an unrequited love? That feels as impossible as Disney's good girl country-pop singer Miley Cyrus swinging in on a wrecking ball completely naked.
    You see what I mean?
It's a minor point but it's just something to show Jojo has never had the chance to be authentic, to self reflect and understand what it is that really matters when someone breaks out of a mould.

See, this is my point too. JoJo is just shocking and pissing people off to do it. She just likes it because it makes her laugh and makes her feel good about herself. Essentially, she's just a public Internet troll that everyone gets to mock. The reason it worked for Miley, yes even though at the time people hated her too, was because she was going against everything she stood for before. And yes while JoJo is going against her child image by being sexual and adult, that's not shocking anymore. That's kinda expected now. Like you said, what's shocking for a rebrand depends on the individual doing the rebrand, not what's expected by society.

This video features some faces and videos of former child stars. As always, please be respectful in the comments! I know that the beginning of this video represents JoJo’s story a little bit differently than some of the other videos that have been out there. After looking into the history and background of Jojo, I could not move forward with a video just showcasing the commonplace narrative of Jojo and her many current controversies without first discussing the glaring and blatant childhood exploitation that took place and likely had distorted her thinking. I hope that I was able to properly showcase this, and that you’re able to see that aspect through this video. With peace and love :)

I am the exact same age as Jojo, and had a similar start. From before I could even walk, my mother decided i would be a rodeo star, like she didn't get to be because of an injury. And when Dance Moms came on, we started watching. I attached to JoJo, and to music, and I started to love singing and dance. But I wasn't allowed to go to dance class - instead it was riding practice and learning to rope and herding cattle. And as I grew older i began to make that my identity, always being shown off by my mother, always the trophy child, even when i started to resent it. When i didn't want to work, my mom would ask me what JoJo would do, tell me that JoJo's mom made her go to practice even when JoJo didnt want to. It started to make me resentful of JoJo herself. But i wanted my mom to be proud of me, so when my entire arm started to just go numb, I kept the injury quiet, because that was my riding arm. When it finally got so bad I had to go to the hospital they found that I now have a nerve injury that can't be fixed. And then I got older, came out as queer (not long before JoJo did, actually) and was disowned. I am doing physical therapy for my arm and shoulder, and it's getting better, and psychological therapy to help heal my mind. I'm doing better. I'm not ever going to be a singer - my experience growing afraid of being watched has given me horrible stage fright, to the point that i get sick at the thought of it. But I've discovered I love writing, and I'm going to school for that and healing, slowly. I feel bad for JoJo. That she never got the chance to find her own niche - and maybe it would have been dance! But who knows.

The fact that she just accepts that 85% of her money isn't there is pretty mind blowing... That would be, like Honey BooBoo, my first and greatest concern upon learning that only the bare minimum of 15% was put away and IDK where that 85% went otherwise. I mean, I also would not have a problem sharing the wealth around, but I would want to know that at least 50% of my earnings from ages 9-18 were put away for ME and I still feel like that's pretty low a % to reserve solely for the person who worked for it (the kid, in this case its JoJo) when the parents apparently had decent jobs or income of their own to put money away and stuff. Personally I feel like, after the costs associated with the job the kid is doing are taken care of, all but maybe 15% should be put away for the kid in the cooger account for their future to choose what to do with after 18 and that last 15% could then go to the parents/guardians to help them care for the kid.
That said, I know it depends on what the kid is making and what the family has and if the kid is the one supporting the family (which sadly does of course happen), but 15% is CRIMINALLY low when the kid is the one doing the actual job in the first place. I mean, at least 25% is closer to reasonable, but only 15%??? Blegh. Just feels scummy to me honestly.

(Yeah her mum ran the show but it was her face and name on it). She thinks it’s normal & probs won’t change in her opinions unless she gets actual dramatic help. I think she needs to step back out of the public eye and work out her own trauma and also the trauma she’s now put on other kids. She’s a victim, no doubt, but she’s also perpetuating the cycle of abuse. As a queer woman, I thought it was cool that she was able to come out and as someone who has a lot of trauma I hope she’s able to get the help she needs and becomes an actual person, not a living product

Very comprehensive video! Jojo Swia's mother needs a deep dive for sure. She was dyeing Jojo's hair blonde at 2 years old as well I think? Its really sad when you think about it because she is another child star that was exploited by adults (i.e. her mother, Abbey Lee) and was allowed to form inappropriate 'friendships" with adults (Colleen Ballinger, Shane Dawson, James Charles). And the brainwashing worked because she defends them still and has her own allegations of cruelty towards young girls. I can't remember but she was on a podcast and said something along the lines of being scared of therapy and as outsider looking in, she certainly could benefit from therapy to unpack the bullying & her chaotic childhood.

To be fair we don't know that they have spent it all, they haven't worked for years so whatever money of hers they have put aside they need to be able to make last for the rest of their lives. They are both still young enough to work, will that happen though is unlikely seeing as Jess having the job of owning/managing XOMG Pop isn't working out so great. She can legally consume alcohol. She is not a child so if she wants to make cringy music and wear black sparkles, I think she should without being completely bashed. Now I’m not excusing controversy or anything bad that she has done she definitely needs some accountability. What I’m trying to say is that she isn’t immortal, shes not going to be a child forever, so people need to stop with the whole, “Bring back the bows!” or “Bring back boomerang.” My goodness this poor “girl” (mental age) needs to grow and discover herself she’s not 12 anymore, leave that part of her alone.

I know that may never happen just yet because JoJo has to do that for herself first. I know it usually takes child stars like herself a very, very long time to break away from the spotlight and take time to themselves. But, I think that's what most of us wish.

It shows that she only sees children as something to profit off from. To treat as a worker. Willing to abuse, as an employee. Idk. Like. Unfortunately they didn't take off the way that they were hoping/expecting so JoJo has needed to stay involved. Also shows how little Jess actually had to do with JoJo being successful cause otherwise she would have been able to replicate it (also would have been easier if JoJo hadn't blown up her relationship with Nick)
