It’s actually more like the 3rd time around. The manga timeline happens first in which kowaru treats Shinji with indifference but eventually falls for him, then they have their one-episode thing in Neon Genesis Evangelion, and then Kowaru meets him again in the rebuilds. Kinda sad actually how long Kowaru has existed without Shinji given he’s the entire votivation behind so many of his actions.
