  • Earthing a 230v mains powered electric fence energiser.
For demonstration purposes we use two 1 meter earth bars spaced 3 meters apart.
    Earthing:
This is the most important and perhaps most overlooked aspect of an electric fence. Remember that the electric fence will not work if it is inadequately earthed. With our most powerful mains operated energizers, use at least one to five one-meter earthing rods. It is important that the earthing rod is set in firm ground in a damp place and that the entire earthing rod goes down into the ground. The cable to the earthing rod must be properly secured/screwed into the rod.
Good earthing is very important for getting maximum capacity from the fencing system. Use earthing rods placed at three to four metres between each other. For best results, the rods should be placed in humid ground.
CHEETAH High Power Energisers Put Power and Reputation on the Line. We have a CHEETAH energiser suitable for any fencing operation - permanent or temporary.
Made in Ireland and of the highest quality you can rely on Cheetah.

Please, how far should the first ground stake be from the energizer (which is near the fence about 50 metres from the house)?

I have some high tension double insulated cable (with a 1.6mm aluminium core) to go from the ground rod to the controller a distance of about 4m underground. I have tried to connect the cable to the ground rod, the aluminium core snaps at the point where it emerges from the double insulation. The broken off pieces of aluminium core do not break when I twist and bed them. It only breaks at the point where it comes out of the insulation. I have been very careful when stripping back the insulation. I do not understand what I am doing wrong. Please can you help? Thank you.

Different companies and different countries call these things different things. Electric fencer, electric fence charger, electric fence energizer etc...They're all the same thing. Parmak had some old units back in the 1990's called the Mark 5 & Mark 6. They would say Parmak Fencer on the front case and then down at the bottom they would say fence charger lol, they had both names.

      Hello James,
A "fencer" is the combination of "Fence" & "Energiser". There are plenty of variations depending on the country you are in.
