Boy do I remember those days when I was young and could not afford a good snowmobile I worked on them for hours and hours just like you did to get the damn things running but what a good feeling when you do get it working and in the long run you're only becoming more mechanically inclined. Good for you...
Just got my 1980 Pantera all fixed up with working electric start now, it’s always a great feeling getting it done yourself. Sweet sled at a great price! Lucky guy! Good work so far!
It’s nice to see this , these old sled are what shaped the sledding world today . Keep em running and they are fun to work on. I have an old 76 Pantera I am fixing up , lot of fun . Good job man👍
This video so took me back to the 80s when I hook an old 70s Ski-Doo out of a field and bring it home, working on it out in the yard at -10F! Good times!
Had one of those. Good sled. Those older sleds need their maintenance done regular but run good if you do it, unless something breaks obviously lol. Good on you for revitalizing an old sled.
I just traded a guy an AR for a '97 ZR 500. I'm gonna watch all your vids so I can get everything figured out. I'm a pretty good mechanic but know nothing about snowmobiles. Your vids should help. Thanks.
So in my years of wrenching on these, a resistor like that is never part of the ignition circuit. Usually it's used in the hot grips/thumb warmer circuit. and it did look like wires running to the throttle. In later models the TPS switch isn't in the throttle itself, but is inside the piece the throttle connects to mounted on the handle bar and uses three wires, connected to a plug. usually shares the same wire as the kill switch. One common wire, and one for TPS and one for kill switch. Common to just get unplugged when TPS fails, but causes kill switch to not work, unless you wire it out. Another giveaway for hand grips/thumb warmer is the switch wired in, which one could be seen tied to that wiring. Cool old ride though, keep that radiator clean, those 530's were known for overheating but were screamers....
For the 20:1 ratio guys the oils have improved dramatically over the years . That is why you see 40:1 or 50:1 . 40:1 is perfect . And everyone is so scared dumping a shot of either in the cylinders . Anything running on gasoline handles either like a shot of candy . It is used to coax a diesel to life ... that’s where you gotta watch things ... it’s more like a snort of cocaine for a diesel . Big difference !
Good job man !!! Fuck some of the negative comments , and everyone is a mechanic yet has no videos of jack shit on their channels. Your enjoying what your doing and that’s awesome. The douchebag with the orange Chevy avatar sure likes to knock you down. He has confidence issues I guess😆😆 keep up the good work bro 👍
RUN AWAY! I bought a 1988 Wild Cat. Big POS. Check to make sure the lighting coil is not wired in series with the regular coil like mine was. I had FITS trying to figure out why the hell mine wouldnt work even with a brand new CDI. After messing with it and having it cut out for no reason. Someone told me the damn thing was wired in series with the saftey cut out switch and the lighting coil. They were 100% correct. After fixing my problem that took me most of the winter to figure out. I rebuilt the engine, new track, shit loads of money later. On a 600 mile ride in the UP of Michigan, it sucked a reed and destroyed a cylinder. After all my work. Replace those reeds with carbon fiber so it will not do that. I went to Skidoo after that and have been a happy camper every since. I went on to opening my own repair shop eventually. I mostly did Artic cat, Polaris and Yamaha.
That motor wasn’t known to be the best anyways. Every brand has their ups and downs. Every ski doo I’ve owned has broke in some way, shape, or form. Everything breaks eventually, no matter what brand😂
you can do this with a air hose and a piece of fuel line, hose, etc.. laying around. Blow air into the tank while sealing around the air hose with a rag so no air can escape. In essence, the gas will exit through the line,( hose or whatever you use to drain the tank.) the pressure from your air hose blowing air in the tank will force the fuel out the only exit available, hence the fuel line, garden hose.

Your running way to fat , Change the jets to maybe a 150 ,Find out thru GPS what altitude your place is at then get the jets to suit the machine if your jets are to big it`ll smoke if to small hard starting and run way to lean watch the plugs if really dark it`s fat to big if white or grey always watch for silver spots that`s the piston melting use bigger jets , The plugs should be buckskin color Tan Makes a giant difference some Artic cat belt guards have a guide for your jets ,Just turn the carbs upside down unscrew the big nut remove the brass jet ,,Buy 3-4 different ones if you have big hills a giant drop in altitude will crater that engine if not getting enough oil to engine jugs running premixed fuels .I ran A-Cat for years .Best way to check plugs is get machine hot , Run under load fast as you can for 200 ft or more TURN KEY OFF AT HIGH REV LET STOP without lowering rev this says what the plugs just got at peak performance adjust from there .You might get away just moving the E clip on the jet needle too up 1 notch this will lean the fuel at micro setting when your at one end of the slots and needs more change jet up or down needle should be center .
Watch next week's video to see me repair the steering and go for a ride
You should be premixing the gas at 20 to 1 ratio. 50 to 1 is to lean and you will destroy your crank shaft and piston skirts.

How ever a little camera shy, it never ceases to amaze me how good this guy is at sorting out problems with engines.

I had a 79 liquid

Im glad that you did extra oil into that thing it runs good asswel
Very satisfying to watch!

nice

Remember to put wear rods on it ,that will help you steer besides protect your skis .Thanks for the video, well done,al

is that a disc golf basket? right on man!!!!!
yea buddy!
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 that's righteous! I get out that way once in a while...maybe play a round or 2
Only steers left...but keeps going straight LoL
Great vid
Is the fuel pump still in the temp spot to this day?
The reason why it idles is so it can warm up quickly
Be careful raising and lowering your oil:fuel ratio. More oil can lean in out too. Use what was used in it.
alright ill be careful
Well nice job starting it but didn't it already run?.
Ive never seen anyone put straight up oil down the cylinders and try to run the engine on it.... usually a oil/fuel mix will ignite better...
it was a mixture
All I ever used was strait gas and it started right up aha
Carson Baker you never use just gas in a 2 stroke unless it has electric fuel injection
I just poor the whole gas cans in the cylinder nip the throttle and pull ten times
Where'd you get them mailman pants?
Please do more sled videos! -fellow Vermonter
How about the recoil rattle?

Sounds like the clutch is rattling
it might be
Hey. I was wondering what the cost to repair it was including the price to buy it?
it was about $300 total
50:1 should be good enough
Was that a piece of maple tubing you were using to drain the fuel tank?
yep
How did you siphon out the gas?
you can do this with a air hose and a piece of fuel line, hose, etc.. laying around.
My sleds have never started on first pull after cleaning the carbs hmmmmmm
i put fuel down the cylinders
What year
Oil? Should have used gas. Gas is a lubricant. Pilot JET plugged.
no straight gas does not lubricate enough. this was a gas oil mixture
Straight gas is not a good lubricant. If he ran that engine is straight gas he would have score dup the cylinder walls.
Yet No video Of It Running..... 4 Days now....

Am I in trouble because I just wanted to make how to do videos for cars its pretty basic like kids could watch for education
Low compression, it shouldn’t pull that easy
He had half the plugs out..pretty easy to pull
Get a skidoo suit...then you can truly work ouside n not shiver
And a yamaha sled. Then you can ride instead of wrench.
I Subbed
It's an '87
If it has 1986 on the tunnel it is an '87 model. Also the seat stripe says it is an '87.
If its a 530 then its a 6000 not a 5000
it was engine swapped
