4:29 - This seems like the biggest issue with the rental system. A family or group who rents multiple craft can easily put the wrong paddles into the wrong locker. Imagine opening your door and only finding a SUP paddle for your kayak rental... Or a kayak paddle for your SUP rental. Other than that, it's a cool idea. There are so many state parks in FL I could see these being successful. I also wonder about liability with defective equipment that wasn't checked out before being re-rented, or inexperienced paddlers going out in general.
Not enough time at all! Here you can buy a yearly membership, but the fine print says 2hrs/day, up to 2 rentals per day. 👀 i guess you get charged if you go over so they really should make it like "1hr+15min" or something
Nice idea. Tech needs work. Keep the kayaks on the ground or add something that will lift the kayak and keep it flat so that dent won’t form. Still think it is a good easy way for someone who does not have a kayak to get on the water and have some fun. I think instead of the hour or day rental, do a half day or full day. Then there wouldn’t be an issue with time.
Nice review Steph, i think your round up of points at the end were spot on and the whole experience would benefit from some minor tweeks, no idea how old that instalation is but it would be interesting to see as time goes on whether the equipment condition degrades or they keep on top of it.
Nice review, thanks. If you don't own one at least you can get on the water. Low quality equipment/boat. Timer starts before you are actually on the water. I don't think you would have a very fun time. But better than nothing.
Maclay is upping their tech game! Agree the process needs some tweaks. Would be nice to pick your own number in case you can't lift, def need a seat, should unlock the locker and kayak rack at the same time.
Not sure I like this. I'm a pretty techy person, but I feel this just needs a bit of human touch. To help people get started To resolve issues To take care of the materials after they've been used
Thanks for the review. I think I'll wait until the kinks are worked out. Confusing directions, confusing gear, time penalties unloading/loading.....no thanks.
It’s a good service for people who don’t have the ability to bring their own or are tourists, But unsanitary, fairly expensive for the crappy materials you get, and lots of penalties for a overly complicated protocol
