Consider reading Warbreaker or the Stormlight Archive after you finish Hero of Ages or the new Mistborn series, they take place in the same universe on different planets, and are also top tier epic fantasy. You may already know all that but on the off chance it's news to you, you can't go wrong with Sanderson's Cosmere. I have read these books so many times over, I love Well of Ascension (although can't stand Zane).
This book has one of the most badass moments in all the trilogy and that is...[SPOILERS] Vin's defeat of Zane. I loved how she turned burning atium into a weakness. It is so beautifully smart and my favorite scene in this trilogy is their entire fight, from the TenSoon reveal to Zane's death. It actually made me feel sorry for him. Also how surprised were you by the Kandra being the Kandra reveal? It made me wanna kick myself that I didn't see it coming.
Wtf, you’ve got book reviews on Mistborn?? Just finished this book and went looking for discussion only to find your video! Hell yes. I’m loving this series, it’s the first fiction I’ve read in like 5 years. I’m pumped to get to hear your thoughts!
You're a full-on booktuber now and nothing will change my opinion about it. This is my least favorite book of the trilogy, too much Zane (who I just don't like to read about). For me, the true star of this book is Elend. I love his arc and the way that he changes throughout the book.
I like the book on balance but I do think it's the weakest in the trilogy, mainly due to pacing issues, where it stands in place for an excessive part of its duration, but the good parts - the ending in particular! - are great enough that they more than make up for my problems with it. And yeah, Sazed is just wonderful. My favourite character in the trilogy beyond a doubt.
@@persephonekore7738 Interesting. I thought the ending of the trilogy was a brilliant bringing-together of everything that had happened and been introduced before. People's tastes differ. Who knew, huh? :)
I loved, loved, loved Zane, possibly because I've never seen a character with father attachment wounds portrayed in such a way quite like this; the madness, the voices, the hatred he had for his father, yet the control the father had over him was so great. It was also fascinating that he was a mirror to Eland and gave Vin yet more choices to make. I could be reading too much into it, but I felt like Sanderson also explored attachment issues with Vin and Eland. I was glad when they finally started talking, though. 😅🤣 I loved Sazed's character so, so much, and I wish I could just research old texts with him all day... :swoon: I could relate to so much of his questioning of his faith/place in the world. Brian Sanderson's world building has *ruined* me. This sequel has so far been my favorite--I think the Kandra and what happened with him was by far one of my favorite character developments, even if pieces are very sad. I grew up on Agatha Christie mysteries, and those are some of the only other mysteries where I also get to the end/conclusion *with* the characters. If you have other authors to recomend that also have this skill, let us know if you have time! 😊
_The Final Empire_ remains my favorite of the trilogy because it's such a strong introduction to this world (and also because I love Kelsier). That said, I really admire _The Well of Ascension_ for being a solid continuation of the series, something that only gets stronger by book 3 IMO. *Also, I just love the kandra. They're a really cool fantasy race :-)*
Sanderson is one of my favourite authors - so glad you're enjoying his books! He always comes across as a genuinely lovely person in interviews as well.
I would recommend reading the first 3 books in the Wax and Wayne series before reading Mistborn: Secret History. It's a bit spoilery for wax and Wayne book 2 and 3.
@@SKOceanicFE That is probably true. I unfortunately have bad memory these days and it was a few years since I read any of these books so I did not remember that.
I really liked it but I would love prequels to the first book. Something about that original tone and world was so interesting to me. The inquisitors, The Steel Ministry, Rebellion, this feeling of dread and bleakness in Luthadel and a ragtag bunch plotting to tear it all down. I would love for another set during The Lord Rulers reign
I liked Zane, and I dislike how he became a stereotypical villain. I know the moral was "trust is the key to love," but there's a lot more to it than that. Zane was everything Vin needed, but only for one side of her. She is a Mistborn, she is a Skaa, but she's also a Noblewoman, whether she likes it or not. And she is a budding scholar. Zane should've revealed Oreseur was a fake, the Atium should've been real and whole, and Zane should've come clean about everything as he fully trusts Vin. Vin, horrified that he'd done so much just to win her over, still appreciates his honesty. He says she'll be the one to save him, and he'll save her. They are both broken, and they need each other. They are thieves, liars, and murderers, it's just who they are. They were never meant to have friends or lovers who were Nobles. Now, I know Vin has no reason to have or burn Gold right now, but it'd be nice if a part of her, the skaa and thief part, wholly agreed with Zane. But her noblewoman side is what makes her hesitate. She is more than her past, more than what Camon made her, and Ellend would accept her, all of her, if she gives him the chance. She's afraid of showing her full thief side to Ellend, but she ultimately chooses the uncertainty of Ellend's love over the certainty of Zane's love. Vin still offers to fix Zane, but he refuses, and says he'll prove his love for Vin the only way she could understand. He attacks her, commanding TenSoon to his side. Then it proceeds as normal. And by the end, she is certain of Ellend's love for her.
SPOILERS a bit after I read the moment where "oreseur" told Vin that he didn't think humans could trust, but she proved they could, I took a second to be like, hold on, this guy/gal/nonbinary pal served Kelsier, who is not only like, the most trusting guy ever, he's also is literally the one who taught Vin how to trust. I get what the moment's going for, and it's good for Vin's arc, but it's a weird oversight in the writing, especially since this book is so focussed on Kelsier's legacy. I was so close to figuring it out and I just didn't get it
You should also check out Graveyard Shift by Angela Roquet. It is another series but you could read the first book and leave it there if you wanted to. The world building is spot on and I love the play on religion and politics.
I did enjoyed the book but I didn't love it like I did with Sanderson other books way of Kings words of radiance and warbreaker and skyward plus it's a slow book to me but I do love vin 🤠🙂🤔😳🥰

Oh yeah, and we call the huge endings to these books the Sanderlanche. I'm sure you can see why, they all do it! :P
Warbreaker is great because it's short but fascinating and there's a lot of politics.

I really can't wait to hear your reactions to the Stormlight Archive if you ever tackle those!
Gotta get yourself booktuber glasses and sweaters now, it's the law of mistborn reviews.

I absolutely agree with you review! I'm starting a third book soon - can't wait!

Weird I thought the ending of book 3 was the weakest point on the trilogy 🤷♀️ also yes Sazed is awesome

Late to these reviews but so happy you're reading Sanderson! He's been my favorite author for about 8 years now and I hope you enjoy the Cosmere!

I think the audio desynchronizes around 8:30 mark.
Once you are done with the first 3 books you really need to read “Mistborn; secret history” also.
I would recommend reading the first 3 books in the Wax and Wayne series before reading Mistborn: Secret History. It's a bit spoilery for wax and Wayne book 2 and 3.
@@SKOceanicFE I agree, most people say read Wax and Wayne 1-3 before secret history
