Thanks so much for this video, it reminded me why I don't feed my bees, man that is a lot of work...and money. I have to say I'm the laziest, cheapest beekeeper out there. God's peace brother.
Morning Joey, feed the bees, feed the bees. Hey thanks again for the syrup mixing video a while back. I agree it doesn't matter, bees eat it, I think the only time it matters is late season if your local climate is wet. It's just food either honey or sugar syrup. Blessed Days buddy...
Yeah the pine straw works well. I just wanted to do something different. lol I've used the apple cider vinegar before. They say it is good for the bees.
It seemed to work great until it got way overloaded with bees. If I had something a little thicker I believe it would work better. The thing with the bucket it takes them longer to get the syrup out. That is kind of what I was wanting to do right now. The tote lets them empty it out fast. lol
Joey, hello from Oklahoma. It's a lot different from Denham Spings, LA 😅 That's why I like to watch beekeepers from the old state. I did learn something new. You taught me something about that half bucket tilt. You should look at the bucket float at Dadant. I use them. It's nice to take a few out. If you have drowning, you need more bucket so they don't drown one another Have a blessed weekend.
Hello from Louisiana. lol I will have to check the bucket float out. I was actually going to put more feeders out around the main yard. Too many hives for just one feeder. Thanks for watching.
Hi Joey, I used old comb frame wood to make a trellis type float the size of the container at the bottom and then put a little bit of pine needles on top and it works great. Just a idea you might want to try..
Good video. Except for my first year, the heaviest feed I use is 1:1. I think that works here in the south. That mixer makes me jealous. Im still mixing in a pot and stirring with a spoon. That method of judging 1/2 full is pretty neat. It gets less accurate with the taper of the bucket but is close enough for bee work.
I would think that would work but it may get sticky and nasty and have to be replaced (o just watched to the end and see it didn’t work at so well). Pine straw is easy to just pitch out and get more for free usually. Maybe if you have an old plastic queen excluder you could sacrifice for this? I’m thinking that would float and give them lots of access to the syrup below and could be reused and even cleaned if necessary. Thanks for sharing!

"lot of work and money" You got that right. Thanks for watching.
Great video Joey! Your syrup barrel is exactly what I need to build. Making syrup is definitely one of my bottlenecks.
Thank you. The drum does make it easier and faster if you are needing more than five gallons.

Morning DC. Thanks, I agree, it's food either way. Thanks for watching.
Never had a problem with this feeding system the pine straw works great. I also put a little apple cider vinegar in the mix keeps it fresh. 👍

Good morning Joey.
Good morning. Thanks for watching.
It looks like that worked great, Joey! Open feeders always result in mortality. I like your bucket idea. I may adopt that.

Hey Joey. Great video. Tractor Supply has those lids and rings. God bless you friend!
I picked some up from there a few days ago. They had three. Thanks

Only way to find out if it works is to try.thanks for sharing, Joey
Yes Sir, that is true. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the response. Good thinking. Found a bucket with Gamma lid. Going to put some out tomorrow
I was able to find three a couple days ago. I will be making a few more myself.
Mr. Rawles, tell me you have a video on how you made that fantastic contraption!
I put a link to my video in the description. Thanks for watching.
Lots of work!!!!
Yep, always something.
My Daddy taught me the same thing about judging the half-container or a liquid!
It is surprising to me how many folks don't know that.

Good idea, Thanks.
Great video Joey. I need to rig up a sugar water mixer like that, it makes short work of mixing.
It does really making sugar water much easier. Thanks for watching.

I think you are right. They can cure it down pretty fast here. Yeah the taper container will through it off a little.
I would put some double bubble under the sheet it makes for a great wick! No more straw!!
I might give that a try.

I am going to keep looking for something a little thicker and also more like a board. That should work better. Thanks for watching.
So did the pine straw help with the dead bee issue?
Yes the straw is better but I was just trying to do something different.
Joey is it important to have the feeder a certain distance from the hive?
I just like to keep the feeders far enough away to cut down on drawing robber bees and other pest to the bee yard. I have fed as close as 50 yards.
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
