In Italy, because the Health Care is free, the doctors always get to the source of the pain and always explain the food benefits and what we must eat, no processed food what so ever!!
Maybe YOUR doctor! it's false to say that every single one of them is doing so! I live in Italy and in my experience doctors don't care at all about the source of your pain. They're just trying to alleviate the simptoms, that's it.
Your statement is a logical fallacy. First, even if it were 'always' so, it has nothing to do with free healthcare (not that it ever actually is free, as you are paying for it your whole life). It is 'free' in the UK but it's utter trash. Second, it has nothing to do with the individual doctor's approach. Third, you're generalising based on a single experience; the general truth seems to be much more dismal, and you were simply lucky to encounter a truly educated doctor.
@@HenIchaer Well, that's a pile of crap. All governments that have socialized medicine have a zealous interest in not having to allocate their limited resources on chronic diseases. In France, school kids are only allowed to eat whole foods rather than the processed garbage the states continuously feed our victimized kids. The point that was made about Italy being concerned about preventative measures is spot on and the other Italian refuting that point simply because he has an idiotic doctor is probably true but only anecdotal and not representative of the consensus in Italy.
Italy seems a beautiful country. Great to read that your doctors have focused on food benefits and how to eat better for health. Also, focusing on basics the patient can do such as eating better is a good way to reduce costs for the health system especially as you said the patient doesn’t pay when they go to the doctor. Hopefully more and more doctors will focus on preventing illness as well as reversing it to the extent possible by encouraging the patient to do what they can for health. Thanks for sharing your experience! ❤
I stopped taking sugar, and eating processed foods years ago around 5 years ago. It’s really hard, your body shakes and pounds etc, but it’s just your system cleansing itself. Afterwards you’ll feel better, healthier, lighter and fitter.
Dr Sebi a man who didn’t go to medical school was talking about healing the gut to heal any disease! And to use food as medicine. Good to see doctors talking about this as opposed to a pushing prescription meds!
I learned several years ago to shop "only" along walls... that's your veggies, fruit, meats, dairy. I always hit the raw nuts and seed isle. I have stopped bagels, donuts, ice cream, processed foods, no more fast foods and am trying to cut back my sugar. Since june 2022 to feb 2023 I've dropped 21 pounds and no longer obese. Still over wt. But i dot plan to stay at this wt.

I listen to a LOT of health and fitness podcasts, but this is one of the most broad ranging yet concise I've come across to date. It basically covers everything. When people next ask me what wellness and health podcast to listen to, I'll recommend this one in a heartbeat.
I lost 65lbs eliminating processed carbohydrates from my diet. I don't eat anything that comes out of a box that's labeled. No bread, no white rice, no sugar. It was a challenge at first, but eventually, I learned to bake and substitute sweets with natural ingredients like dates, cocoa, coconut sugar, and almond flour. 😋 Eliminating processed carbohydrates and sugar also cleared up my fibroids.
This is great. I love Dr Hyman. I quit sugar and processed foods recently and I know I’m going to feel so much better. Hopefully lose weight as well but my goal is to feel alive and vibrant.
Dr Rangan thank you, over 6 months ago I found one of your videos about low carb ect, I was very ill and felt like I was waiting to die, I had pre diabetes, autoimmune diseases, i couldn’t get out of bed on my own ,I was a vegetarian…..I’m now zero carb, can walk over 8 miles a day ,my blood sugar is 4.8 in the perfect range,o and I’ve lost so far 54lb in 6 months,I feel 20 years younger x
I have healed my own autoimmune with raw veggies and fruit diet in the form of smoothies and salads. You can do 3/4 raw and 1/4th of the day cooked vegan gluten-free diet ..
@@NS-815 I was a vegetarian .. I couldn’t now eat any fruit or certain vegetables it would make my blood sugar high and I would be diabetic again, but I’m so happy for you I’m glad you’re feeling better x
All of us are responsible to make sure the foods we ate will benefits our bodies. Like your podcast I learned a lot and thank you very much and all of your guests.
1959 was a good year to be born. I grew up eating natural whole foods and have lived at 8,000' less than three miles from tow different wilderness areas. I work at 9,000' - 11,000' and play at up to 14,500'. I have a very physical job and my co-workers, at half my age, aren't as strong and healthy. I go backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering nearly every week with guys half my age and they often have a hard time keeping up. I completely agree with what Mark is laying down. I'm not even trying to live longer, but want the best quality of live while I'm here.
Good info. One common theme stretches across the history of metabolically healthy people to this day - whether their diets are primarily animal based or plant based- reliance on whole, unprocessed foods.
Processed sugary food has become a form of entertainment…a legal “recreational drug” and…good grief…it is all over the place and heavily marketed to children EVERYWHERE! Also…food/eating/breaking bread with loved ones is an important cultural ritual.
I think a big part is also played by the the packaging. I grew up in Italy and all the vegetables, fruit and animal proteins didn’t come in plastic packaging like now here in America. You went shopping and you got the food you choose in paper bags. The food would get to the grocer in cartons or crates. The butcher would get his animals hanging in the refrigerated truck then butcher them and sell the pieces in butcher paper (you can find that here in America still in a few stores). Beside the fact that the food in Italy is regional and seasonal the fact that is not constantly in contact with plastic I think is really important. Things are changing there too regrettably and many things are becoming more premade and industrial.
Good points - packaged foods are more profitable, so that is why it happens. The only antidote is educated consumers - we can shop for the food that is not packaged and processed, but it has to be a conscious choice.
I think you make an excellent point about plastics and packaging. Fresh food needs fresh air. To me there is no doubt it changes the quality of the nutrition. Still, whole packaged foods are better than fully processed. It’s nice to have a bit of a garden even indoors to get maximal benefits from herbs etc.
Why does no one talk abot Canenne? Cayenne pepper has the power to soothe inflammation and bloating that comes from allergies, food sensitivities and infections. 7. Works as Anti-Irritant. Cayenne pepper benefits include its anti-irritant properties, making it effective in easing ulcers, upset stomachs, cough and even potentially stop diarrhea. It's good for heart disease, too!
One Frankfurter was labeled 1480 grams of sodium. Panera also has high sodium in their foods. Olive Garden chicken paragons dinner has 3880 grams of sodium.. I used to love that meal. No more.
Fabulous discussion. I really enjoyed this, much more than I do Dr. Hyman's. Thanks a ton Dr. Chatterjee. Love your podcast; it's my favorite health show 100%.
What's amazing is that society is okay with being poisoned slowly by the food companies in the name of money. It's ironic people demonstrate for all kinds of issues but yet when it comes to their health and their childrens health they look away and don't care. The obesity in children has doubled in the last 5 years. Also what quadrupled in the last 20 years is mental illness and it has a lot to do with the processed food intake and the environmental stress society is under these days.
Exactly but the main reason is ignorance. There is hardly anyone in the media telling the truth about processed food and sugars. It needs to be shouted from the rooftops but there is deathly silence. Governments also keep quiet despite knowing the truth. I guess they fear that if everyone stopped eating junk food the economy would suffer badly. That may be so but eventually it would recover and most people are not going to change overnight, if at all.
@@dennisward43 Society has been so dumb down that l don't have much hope for change in the future. I work with the public and its sad to see how screwed up their priorities are. In fact l am also getting tired in educating my doctors who have zero knowledge of nutrition, vitamins and how important they are. One is a cardiologist the other General practitioner. The good thing is that the GP is starting to take the vitamins l suggested to him and he feels better. The cardiologist nice guy but clueless of the importance of vitamin D3, K2 and nutrition. I had to send him some studies from England to educate him. If people depend on the media to educate them they are in huge trouble since the media is owned by the food companies and the pharmaceutical companies. The government is a lost cause too. We elect officials to make the right decisions and to protect the public but yet they sellout to the cooperations for money and power. What makes it even worse is that the public knows of how corrupt the officials are but yet accepts it and no consequences for the officials. Now the fashion industry including the media advertise that being big is beautiful in other words being fat or obese is the new beautiful look. Its really sad. :(
55:00 this is fundamental when we look to groups/communities of people to try and learn from them. We cannot cherry pick elements and presume that these will yield the results we want - we must appreciate the entire bio/eco system and mimic as closely as possible in our own world.
That's not possible because not everyone is born into a loving family. My "family" all despised each other ... Pedophiles, Thieves, Liars and Frauds, everyone of them except for my mother. What a great "family" hey?
@@Peekaboo-Kitty Sad to hear you've had a struggle with your biological family. Nothing in my comment demands that you create / participate in a community that is made up of your relatives. Carb and sugar addict here!!!! I’ve been watching The Carb Addiction Teacher playlist and learning strategies to help me. Have you discussed food/ carb or sugar addictions? Thanks so much 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm so disgusted with modern food companies and their garbage, we need to force them to use clean ingredients by using the power of our shopping dollars!!
When you remove the bad stuff hunger is intense, but the addition of whole fruits, vegetables and liquid (water, tea, unsweetened coffee) satisfies and the drop in weight also satisfies.
Those things are a prescription for failure. 95% of low-fat diets fail. Why would you even begin to embark on something like that? I get that vegans feel bad when they see how mass-produced animals suffer, but one does not equate with the other. We need lots of fats to be healthy and on the animal side, our ancestors ate loads of eggs, fish and insects at a minimum.
If you cook your own food from minimally ingredients, working with the flour, butter, herbs/spices, meat, eggs, etc. will go a good way toward satisfying your senses, which will both increase your satisfaction and decrease your cravings... Very simple example: pouring hot water into instant coffee mixed with powdered creamer and sugar... is less satisfying than grinding your own beans, and paper-filter brewing your coffee, and adding some fresh cream (no need for sugar).
Something else, the more processed food consumed, which is nutritionally deficient due to all the processing, the body is 'forgetting' how to digest and extract the naturally occuring nutrients found in food stuffs in their natural state. Also you need to eat a lot more of the processed foodstuffs in order to absorb sufficient nutrients for the body's needs.
Even if you eat processed food all day long , we still don't get nutrition from it. It is high carbs to manipulate our blood sugars to rise and crash ; inducing cravings.... (and ensuring higher food sales ). Nutrition is deficient in such "food" , and it is a shocking fact that Government Authorities are allowing such 'Carbage' to replace a nutritious Staple Diet .
I am so glad that I was endowed with common sense right from the start of my life. At the age of 17 I was already vegetarian and I gave up sugar entirely, including coca-cola and liquid crap like that, and for a time I even became macrobiotic. Now I have been sugar-free for over 20 years, I live on organic foods and I only eat what I myself have cooked, rather frugally I have to add. I am 42, but people always think I must be some 30 years old at most. Common sense paid off.
But that is a very difficult thing to achieve, you must really have insane self discipline skills. I wish I could one day be able to say, I don’t eat sugar for over 20 years already. Good for you
@@imaanadams5987 Well this is not everything, BTW: I usually start my day at 3 am. with a cold shower right after waking up, then I meditate listening to sutras, and after that I do calisthenics and yoga for almost 2 hours before taking my breakfast. If I could free myself from sugar, then so can you and everybody else. It is a matter of willpower, really. Start right now, take the determination to quit sugar completely and forever, don't let that filthy poison ruin your body, for it is the only one you have, and none other. Take a first step towards freeing yourself from that sweet drug which is slowly but steadily corroding you from inside.
So how do you play the game of eating socially ? If im invited to say dinner or a lunch, i always plan a way to fit in. My eating habits have only changed the past 2 years. If im at a party where there are drinks, i always have a glass with water or selzer with a lemon and straw. I never speak how everything in the room is eating and drinking poison. Only if im asked or the subject comes up.
@@resslerartstudios Well, I have to start with the fact that I am an INFJ, which implies that my social life is extremely restricted and scarce. But in the very rare event of a social gathering, I somehow try to find solutions to problems arising eventually. Alcohol is out of question, partly because I am intolerant to it, so in this aspect there can be no compromise whatsoever. But if I ask for a tea, I also ask them to bring me honey instead of sugar. Wholemeal bread and veggies are luckily staple options in most restaurants and other places of the like, so that makes things easier. I do not talk about food issues, I am no preacher. Everybody is free to eat what they like. The infos about healthy and unhealthy foods can be accessed almost everywhere, so it is up to everyone to decide what to do and what to consume.
I’m not plant based, but I eat very little meat (I just don’t like it) and am lactose intolerant, so don’t get any dairy. Recently, I’ve made sure to have a (plant) protein smoothie everyday, and I do cardio/strength training every single day. The difference is amazing!

Great info as I have been trying to change our food habits for the entire family. What I don’t understand is why are the companies allowed to “confuse” us by printing ‘whole grain’ etc to make the product seem healthy?
Probably food industry lobbyists are writing the regulations if there are any. Just like "safe catch" tuna brand has as much or more mercury than brands half the price. After reading Consumer Reports review of canned tuna another food to avoid.
It would be really great if you could split your podcasts into chapters like Rich Roll does. Splitting into chapters would make it so much more accessible and easier for me as a neurodiverse person to engage with the information. Can you cater for me please?
Dr. Chatterjee and Dr. Hyman, two of my health heroes. Thank you for educating us. I loved this podcast. I do not have a science background and I get stumped at protein intake. I am an omnivore and love all animal proteins. How do I know if I am eating too much or too little? Can you explain how to calculate protein in a food? When you say 0,8gm per 1 kilo of weight, how do I translate that into what and how much to eat? I am assuming that 200gms of grass-fed beef or lamb or salmon does not equal 200gms of protein, correct? Thank you.
It’s true. My mom was married to a man for 25 years that was obsessed and addicted to bread and he thought it was good for him. All his baked goods were white bread, white sweet rolls I mean it was ridiculous. My mom ate them all the time and I told her she didn’t have to eat that stuff But if it was around she was going to eat it. She blossomed to 160 pounds and a size 16 at 5 foot two. He passed away three years ago, and I grabbed a hold of her diet. I took it all away all the sugar all the bread. Within Six months she was down to a size 14 and another six months she was down to a 12 and then a 10 and now she’s in an eight. She’s no longer addicted to bread and sweets. In fact she doesn’t even like it anymore. As a sidenote, it wasn’t until he passed away that we realized she has dementia. She’s been diagnosed with moderate dementia. My brother, on the other hand was addicted to sweets And he ate them morning and night. He is now 70 with dementia and in a facility. She just lives in her own home and I help care for her but she’s just so weak and tired all the time that she’s very easy to care for. She will be 89 in July and has no arthritis. No auto immune just a couple of heart issues that she’s had for quite some time.
I gave up processed food for lent. I've lost 3.5lbs already. Only thing I'm really missing is Diet Coke. Otherwise very satisfied and not hungry at all. Can't wait to see what happens after 40 days. I might never go back.

Hi, great video and so interesting. Could you talk about the different types of sugar please? We all know refined sugar isn't good, but what about fruits, honey and maple syrup? Thank you. Ella
Fruits, honey and maple syrup was the natural and healthy go to carbs by our ancient ancestors, enjoy them, but make sure the honey and syrup is raw and organic, very easy to get hold of online or locally to you if you can seek out beekeepers near you 😊
Berries are the best fruit to eat. Fruit ok but some still have a high sugar load. Use honey and maple syrup sparingly as they still have a lot of sugar .

I appreciate all the free information Dr. Hyman and others put out for those of us who want to learn how to eat so we can keep our health. I bought the book Young Forever. Really good information. There are too many individuals out there trying to profit in helping others. I know of individuals who will charge you 200.00 before they will even give you information! It’s horrible! Thank you Dr. Hyman for all the information for sure!
Dr Chattergee, in the interests of a balanced approach, how about interviewing the Drs who advocate carnivore? Many of us were ALREADY eating as Dr Hyman recommended and found our illness resolved on carnivore, then issues return very quickly when we add plants back, so it's clear plants were the issue. Whether that's the plants own natural defense toxins or the chemical pesticides, or the lack of nutrients due to poor bioavailability and well documented soil depletion due to modern farming practices. There are a growing number of case studies and self reports of carnivore healing autoimmune disorders, gut disorders, metabolic disorders, cancers in remission, lifelong severe neurological disorders, severe depression and bipolar in remission. I didn't even have a diagnosed condition, healthy weight, regulat exercise, but I still had widespread joint and muscle pain, histamine intolerance, igE allergies, rosacea, IBS, chemical sensitivity and chronic fatigue, burning mouth syndrome, biliary dyskinesia, anaemia, low FT3 and hypothyroid symptoms, hypermobility, deficient magnesium, deficient copper, deficient transferrin saturation, deficient iodine, lower than optimal selenium, zinc, b12, folate, vitamin D. All on Dr Humans way of eating - with no gluten no dairy no eggs, low carb. 95% of my issues have cleared up on carnivore. I would also ask where is the evidence - that isn't an epimedial study confounded by healthy user bias or a rat study or an in-vitro study - that demonstrates we need phyto nutrients from plants

Thank you, Dr. Chatterjee, for this talk to remind or inform people who did not know yet about the direct correlation between junk information processed stuff and the resulting genetic presentation and dysfunctions that follow!
You would have to ask you morally corrupt state representative. i.e Senator,Congressman. They are the ones who get bribes & kickbacks(they call it campaign contributions, but we know better than to believe that)from the companies that produce the crap that end up in our supermarkets & unfortunately in us & our children who count on adults to feed them nutritious foods. The lobbies for both the food & beverage industry as well as big chemical companies that make the crap that is put in our food give large amounts of cash in exchange for favors that benefit the industries. When it comes to studies on food products almost all the research on that product is done by the manufacturer of that product & if test results show that it may be harmful then they call in the favor. The politicians work out a way to allow the dangerous products to be marketed to the public by changing standards of guidelines or by simply changing the definitions or meanings of certain words or phrases. Like what is considered added sweetners or sugars? That is always changing to include this new stuff or that stuff. F.D.A doesn't test foods or beverages like they should, but that costs money & if Washington can put that money into their pockets then they will. Regardless of the damage to the health of it's citizens.

yes we are all unique and react differently to various food groups. However the way we have evolved over 2.5million years is clear. Its not to eat highly processed foods. I want to know if it's at all possible to ease my way off this blood thinner using a plant based diet. Please help me with this???
I have clotting issue due to an autoimmune disease. I can’t recommend getting off your meds but I can tell you some things I have done: 1. a daily clove of minced garlic eaten on an empty stomach after letting it rest 10 min. Or a clove of garlic muddled in hot water with a squeeze of lemon and sipped on an empty stomach. 2. Grapefruit juice ( ideally fresh) 3. Vitalzyme… expensive but wonderful!! 4. Pu-ergo tea. All of these are blood cleansers with other specific benefits. But when your blood is clean and without a burden of toxins bacteria or autoimmune stress I have found it clots less. Oh yes and when I drink water I try to have a bit of lemon in it. My organs seem to really love it. Deep breathing for good tissue oxygen and yoga added in when I can. But really trying any one of the above are likely to really be beneficial. Also working with a doctor who works with your efforts as a team is emotionally very helpful too.
@lauragesicki5499 Thank you so much for your reply, and I really appreciate the remedies given. I will definitely try at least one or two of these. The only one I'm unable to try is the grapefruit due to the blood thinner I'm taking called Eliquis. That's the one fruit I can no longer have. My Hematologist has run several tests to figure out why my blood clotted, causing the massive pulmonary embolism several years ago that almost took my life. So far, he's discovered at one point my fibrinogen level was high, but last blood testing, thank God it's in normal range. No other reason found so far. Bless you and thank you for this information.
There are a number of contradictions in what he's saying. He says that ultra processed food is harmful yet recommends protein shakes which are ultra processed. He says that muscle building and eating high levels of protein as you age are important for longevity. But talks about long lived people in the blue zones. These people aren't doing resistance training and loading up on protein shakes after their workouts. From what I understand, the diets of blue zone people consist mostly of locally grown whole plant foods with small amount of meat, fish and dairy depending on blue zone.

Why do you suppose the UK population is so sick and fat, then? Is our NHS broken?
I stopped taking sugar, and eating processed foods years ago around 5 years ago. It’s really hard, your body shakes and pounds etc, but it’s just your system cleansing itself. Afterwards you’ll feel better, healthier, lighter and fitter.
That's great. I'm curious to know if you ever crave sugar and/or processed foods, even after 5 years...

I have endometriosis and an overactive thyroid, I wonder if I changed my diet would it help with these conditions

Another great interview on this channel. Dr Hyman looks and feels younger now than when I listened to him 10 years ago. Great job.
Good info. One common theme stretches across the history of metabolically healthy people to this day - whether their diets are primarily animal based or plant based- reliance on whole, unprocessed foods.
Agree..but some have more absorbable protein than the other which is crucial as we age. 🙏
Processed sugary food has become a form of entertainment…a legal “recreational drug” and…good grief…it is all over the place and heavily marketed to children EVERYWHERE!
Also…food/eating/breaking bread with loved ones is an important cultural ritual.
Shared and have nothing else other than praise for this video collaboration
So wonderful to see you both here. Looking forward to reading your new book Dr Hyman 🙏
It was like that in the UK too when I was growing up.
Thank you for your wisdom. I’m a Type 2 diabetic and I sure need to change my lifestyle.
Interesting interview! I love the positive mindset of both Dr. Chatterjee and Dr. Hyman!!

@@dennisward43
Society has been so dumb down that l don't have much hope for change in the future.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING....I TOTALLY AGREE!!
When you remove the bad stuff hunger is intense, but the addition of whole fruits, vegetables and liquid (water, tea, unsweetened coffee) satisfies and the drop in weight also satisfies.
When you are hungry go and exercise. Exercise reduces hunger because it suppresses the Hormone Ghrelin.
It takes a good 2 weeks for those nasty cravings to subside (addiction/withdrawals).
Meat all the way
Those things are a prescription for failure.
I think another great guest for an overall health/health service chat, would be Dr Suneel Dhand. He SEEMS, genuinely passionate.
Excellent idea
Yes! I have appreciated his integrity and service to humanity over the past 3 years.

Correction "planet wild" brand has the high mercury levels in their tuna disappointing considering the high price point for their product.

Thank you.
Basically just focus on eating real food, nothing processed. Eat meat and fresh vegetables.
Thanks, live on

Hi, great video and so interesting. Could you talk about the different types of sugar please? We all know refined sugar isn't good, but what about fruits, honey and maple syrup? Thank you. Ella
Honey is 40% fructose, which is only metabolized in the liver. So not good
Fruits, honey and maple syrup was the natural and healthy go to carbs by our ancient ancestors, enjoy them, but make sure the honey and syrup is raw and organic, very easy to get hold of online or locally to you if you can seek out beekeepers near you 😊

Dr Chatterjee - I would be interested in you interviewing David Montegomery about his book ‘What Your Food Ate’
If I spend too much time listening to these podcasts, I won't be spending enough time taking exercise:)

You’ll be amazed if you find out more about how they mess with what we eat with low quality fake things to mark up for profits. What I’m trying to say is, don’t even trust the labels on the packages, people got jailed for saying the wrong things in communist countries, yet no big companies even got fined for killing people indirectly. When there are money involved, a lot of things can be bought, that includes test results of “safe food”

If I am constantly sick when I eat plants, aren’t I hurting other humans?🤔
Hi Tim Barrett: there are some problems with completely plant based diet as Mark mentions. You will need to supplement your B12 and you need different combinations of plants/ nuts to get all the essential amino acids. Animal flesh has all the essential amino acids.
I actually save money not filling my cart with processed junk and replacing with fresh whole food items, including some organic.

Please help to be able to come off blood thinner by eating plant based. I'm officially plant based eating and have lost weight...YAAAAAY! I'm truly excited about this and have been enjoying different plant based meals. I just never hear about helping patients on blood thinners after clot formation. I want to know if it's at all possible to ease my way off this blood thinner using a plant based diet. Please help me with this???
I have clotting issue due to an autoimmune disease. I can’t recommend getting off your meds but I can tell you some things I have done:
1. a daily clove of minced garlic eaten on an empty stomach after letting it rest 10 min. Or a clove of garlic muddled in hot water with a squeeze of lemon and sipped on an empty stomach.
2. Grapefruit juice ( ideally fresh)
@@hammyluvyoung9640 bless you too and enjoy a long healthy happy life!
