Pretty cool mod. I enjoy watching your videos with them DIY loopstick antennas. The D-109 is a good radio and also very sensitive on all bands. Have a good weekend Gary.
Does extending the telescopic antenna not work for MW reception you are testing? Just curious why you didn't use it in the video. I'm new to this so just started looking into how I can recieve Vietnamese stations from the UK.
@DevineOne, the telescopic whip antenna doesn't have any effect on MW reception in the D-109, because it isn't part of the MW circuitry. The MW loopstick connections go directly to the DSP chip as the only antenna for MW reception.
Thanks Vertak Shop, the coil inductance is 350 microhenries. The loopstick construction is described in the article posted at dreamcrafts.box.com/s/xu7drqxg7epmljm4yu4579hcrin9em6p
Saulius, this external loopstick was a complete replacement of the internal stock loopstick, which was removed from the cabinet. The 7cm stock loopstick was replaced by a 19cm external loopstick.
You are the reference in radio modifications. congratulations. Brazil 👍
Perfeito, Thank you very much! The best of DX to you! --Gary in Puyallup, WA, USA

Thanks Danny, it's really lots of fun to convert these cheap portables into AM-DXing thrillers!
Will you be making this antenna for sale? I don't see anything like it on the market.
These Mods are Excellent! Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks! And thanks also for your great videos and radio reviews 🙂
As always, Gary, you don't disappoint. Very interesting video. Tnx. 73
Thanks VA7BC, your comments are appreciated! Best of DX to you-- Gary

@@DXerGarythank you for your reply and explaination.
Wonder how old super radios would compare?
Great job, Harry!
What is the inductance of the coil?

How about using the antenna like you're supposed to on the left radio?? That's what they're there for. It's not a legit test...
Seasparrow, I did use the antenna on the left radio-- three times (for each relative strength test).
It's probably better to make a stand for antenna, then drill a socket in radio case. Then you can connect and disconect it rather than gluing it.

just buy a bigger radio with a larger antenna.
хватит на эти хреновые приемники делать обзор
Thank you, but I'm sorry I can't translate it.
