The big problem with this though is it would require a complete redesign of the interior, which I don't think CIG would be willing to commit the time to.
@artuno1207 @artuno1207 - i think that if CIG isn't willing to commit the time towards redesigns that they are attributing to 'tech debt, then they are going to have a problem, and likely waste a lot of money either way, which is going to be a problem regardless. And I think that is part of what many view as a problem, in that they could stop a lot of dump or worstumany times stupid decisions, if they just hired someone competent whom could or would point out dumb design or mechanic considerations. Preferably the fore as it would at least inure them against the latter. Real-world military is decidedly harsh when it comes to implementation approval for ideas. It took them decades, lol but they eventually figured oufowhat amounts to a gamers ideology of pass fail. Build thing, weigh against costs, how well does thing do what it's supposed to do, can it do other things (bonus points), idiot proof thing, give to troops to try to break thing, more idiot proofing, ergonomics, how bad ass does thing look (if used for combat), nifty acronym (if it's used for reports). Sometimes there is a stage 2: what else can this be used for that it's not supposed to be used for 😂, further improvements, is there something that does the same thing cheaper and or better? But that's usually down the road after money is spent. Considering that many designs are supposed to be hundreds of years old, they should have essentially decades at least for most designs, of product reports and design notes. Which is pretty much thr gamer design notes our community has. Things they like or don't like. Aka, stip designing dumb shit or we won't use it. Real world this happens. For instance, thr F-117 stealth fighters, mostly flown at night, ever painted baby sky blue. Pilots wouldn't fly them unless ordered because they wouldn't be caught dead in baby blue planes. Lol.or that most weapons systems and improvements are given to special forces and stress tested and design tested to cull bad design and use ideas. The military actually takes into account consideration of people whom know that field to point out stupid stuff and learned to listen. This in game should be hyper focused when humanity is fighting for survival. Sorta like how a game is fighting to compete stuff to get into production . They are just making more work or wasting time and is pissing off players whom want to enjoy the game.
Thing that I like in it: -Asymetric design -More actuallt usable space unlike most other Crusader ships -The overall Crusader design cues. Things that I hate: -The engines are too small -It is too blocky -That wing over the wing thing is stupid and looks silly.
The gun needs to be a size 5 version of the Ion gun without the charge up. 1 more shield, power plant, and cooler. Make it $75 stand alone and $90 with game package.
Sloping the wings is a good idea, but other than that, I'd just pull the cockpit back till the front matches the depth of the weapon. Usable internal space isn't impacted very much that way, and the overall will look more balanced.
One of the problems i have with CIG is that they do not focus group their products until launch. Any senior artist would tell the intern that created this that he needed to go back to the drawing board.
Much better, for me the issue with the normal design is with the in between space where the missiles are. You could just mount this in the wings. They could have easily made it so the cockpit was centred, with the space they had. Also I would change the cockpit to match other crusader ships. The glass should wrap over the front more instead of just looking blunt like a hornet
My biggest issue with the Intrepid is how much of the ship is dedicated to emphasizing that single size 4 gun. It just doesn't work the way it did with the Ares which had a custom design for its size 7 weapons. It feels like this ship was rushed out the door to meet a quota when it really needed a few more months of cooking to get it right.
CIG Should learn to come up with a ship design contest with out stating if they will use it or not for a particular ship but it would give them fresh ideas that they can incorporate on their designs..
I love this ship. I actually like that it’s not what my brain wants. The contention it causes makes me unable to look away. Like your concept looks nice but it loses that contention AND it would require a redesign of the interior
I love the sloped wings idea. But for the rest of it, I think the only other improvement would've been a second size 4 weapon. I'm not suggesting this ship should be able to go out and complete ERT's etc. But one size 4 isn't much to fight off pirates with. Plus, it's a starter ship clearly designed to be a multi-role. So yes, while 1x S4 will enable you to do VLRT/LRT's, it's not really got enough punch to make it worthy over an Avenger. For me, I don't hate it, I just find it puzzling. I had high hopes it would a top tier starter/small ship to compete with the Nomad. (Say 2x S4, 16 SCU cargohold). But hey ho, it is what it is.
Thanks man! I appreciate the Kind words, I think there's a lot of good elements to their design, it just needed a little more time in the designers hands I think, I do think it looks really nice from a side profile as it is right now though, but this ship could've been such a banger, it's a shame they went with such a divisive design.
The odd uniform flatness of the rear "biplane" section is largely because of the pivoting thrusters, which I personally find to be pretty stupid. Ships this small/light basically always have enough thrust authority in every axis to not need a dedicated VTOL mode; The standard downward-facing maneuvering thrusters are enough. And even if we ignore that, the actual location of these VTOL thrusters makes no sense. They'd cause the ship to pitch downwards. The ship has no believable way to counteract this torque. If they simply removed those VTOL thrusters and instead sloped that area it'd look a lot better. This area - the tips of the wings - is also *always* swept *forward* on Crusader ships. This is what gives Crusader ships their signature "truncated diamond shape" profile, when viewed from above. The Intrepid is the only Crusader ship to not follow this design language. I'd also bulk up the housing around the single gun to more closely mimic the silhouette of the cockpit, at least when viewed from above. They could also remove the slant or sweep from the center missile section, and possibly mount the missiles directly underneath the gun.
I do like the Intrepid, but it definitely has it's flaws that keep it from being cool. I 100% agree if the wings were more winglike and followed the slope of the engines, this ship would look way, way better. I don't think the asymmetry is terrible, and with it now having the size 4 weapon it's much better than it's first iteration, but your design is much better take on it. And if space was an issue for the gun, the area could just be elongated a little. It doesn't need to be pancake shaped. Ultimately I like the Intrepid, but every fan design I see is more appealing than it
I'm a big fan of Crusader and I love starter ships and while I love the interior of the Intrepid, I passionately dislike the exterior. However, your version is definitely an improvement.
The main problem this ship has is that its interior is just as wide as the Spirit. The cockpit is much thinner but the rest of the ship is very wide. You can't just make it thinner and call it a day because the interior just won't fit. Yes, your change to the wings might work, but the way you moved the gun and the cockpit completely deforms the living space and the main hallway. Move the ailerons closer to the wing openings more towards the tips like the Spirit has them. Make the cockpit wider towards the center of the ship and simply move the gun more towards the center equally. Don't make the ship's core thinner as you can't do that due to the interior. Finally, instead of lowering the wings, make them inclined by raising the top back of the ship a bit more. Make the flat top of the ship somewhat curved and add elongations to the white part that go past the thrusters on the back like the Spirit has them.
Take a look at the video where the camera flies through the main hallway, that wall next to the opening door is super thick, they could've made it thinner and resolved the thickness issue that you're talking about, yes the interior would have to change, slightly, but you'd still get 90% of what makes it good and get to improve the design overall quite a bit. I do understand your concern though , I initially thought so as well, but the more I look at the interior they could've definitely cut some space out
@@faintanomaly I don't think there's enough spare space inside to do the changes you've depicted, but they could surely have done something. I probably didn't make myself understood with what I'm saying in the second paragraph, but mainly you can modify the appearance without changing the interior at all (except for the cockpit) if you widen and elongate the cockpit towards the center line. Move the gun closer to the center and raise the middle of the roof instead of curving it into the ship. You'd make the ship a little bit larger but better looking, then you just improve the shields and that's it.
this dose look better but is still dont like those double leyerd wings, just move the air intakes closer in line with the engins and maybe just remove the 2nd layer, not sure if it even needs vtols
I'm not a fan of the design of the Intrepid. I say get rid of the hallway, centralize the cockpit on the ship and have it open directly into the habitation area. Have another rear door open on the aft section. Combine both cargo bays into a single cargo bay of 6-8 SCU and dedicate the aft section to components and cargo. They can keep the door to the cargo bay itself and that may reduce some resources in that section (1 instead of 2). Keep the side entry on the ship, but it opens directly on the habitation area and also add a cockpit entry similar to the Ares.
Does the interior still work, though? This is the challenging bit, IMO, and you can tell that Cig really struggled to make it work at all. Take a close look around the two cargo bays on the Intrepid. The corners are sticking out. (It is very ugly.) Cig tried to mask it, but not very successfully.
100% I think they should've just sacrificed a little on the interior size, mainly the wall separating the hallway from the living space, that wall is so thick you can see it in the flythrough of the ship in the video towards the end
100% they could've double stacked the 4 SCU on each side, there's enough room above it, and if not then they could've streamlined the design, that space above the cargo area is very unnecessary
As much as I like these ideas, you are forgetting the gun needs to be in its position to allow the gimbal to shoot its full range on the gimbal. the closer you get to the cockpit with the gun the less the gimbal can fire to the left, so using manual gimbals or precision targeting mode you will suffer ability to hit your targets. This is a flaw the Ares has as its not Gimbaled at all and uses a fixed assist version to allow it to use the PTM.
Great point ! Well the gun can just move to the right until the gimbal has its required range of motion. Mine would also just be a concept, i know there’s issues with it, thanks for the comment though!
When the pilot of an intrepid meets the pilot of a titan, the intrepid pilot is a dead pilot ☠️ A single S4 Vs 2xS4 and two S3... even a burrito would understand that there is no story!Cheers 🌯
If they made the Intrepid do fill a role for Starter, they should improve de interior, Titan have 2 S3 weapon, more fuel, shield and coolers. Cutter a just to old to comprare but you can fit "alot" of cargo inside, C8X Pisces I have no ideia about. The visual of Intrepid is kind cool but the real problem for me is the components
I think the titan has 2x3 under the wing and another 1x4 under the nose. There’s a build for the intrepid that is actually really good though. A lot of people don’t know about it. You stealth build the ship, cause it’s only size 1 components, you can get the emission’s down to 3k , and stay undetectable up to 1.8km. You turn the ships weaknesses into your advantage. Run a ballistic canon and your ammo also lasts a long time. It’s loads of Fun to play like this. I’ve even completed Medium difficulty missions, flying in atmo is a dream.
Oh and if you can, get the black concierge paint, then you’re also invisible in space, it’s such a good loadout, the black paint also helps the ship look loads better.
Excellent redesign, much better than the reality. Glad some people love the ugly duckling, shes just not for me. If they ever go overboard and super piwer it with a bespoke size 5 or bespoke size 4 (that out performs other size 4s) that might be enough to outweigh how much its exteeior design really puts me off personally. Dont see that happening though XD
u change exterior but what about interior after this transformation answer is it will be fuked up one thing than u can do with it is add some shape between gan and capony thats all
The reason for making the wings flat is, again, the interior. There is a lot of empty space between the cargo cupboards and the ceiling, but they would have had to make new interior assets with a sloped roof, which probably needed to be within budget. The ship generally feels very much like a "parts bin special" to me.
I agree, but they should've stole more from the MSR and the C1, those ships were very successful from a design point of view, sleek and slim even asymmetrical in the MSR's case, a MINI MSR would've knocked it out the park, just get rid of the double story "The smuggler tunnels under the ship" and shrink it down. Would've been soooo good
I agree that the ship's individual components look great, but all together it looks like a mess. Most likely a ship created by committee. I really like your redesign, If only CIG could do that.
Thanks man! Yah like some other commenters have said, it feels like a Kitbash, some things work and other things just don't lol But it has been growing on me over the last couple days, I just wish it was like a mini MSR without the Tunnels
I'm happy that they chose to use the cargo areas as pass through areas. I'm tired of dumb CIG designs for "balance" that habe nothing to do with game real world decisions. stupid designs are stupid, stop designing them that way. As someone whom dealt with military QA and idea approval implementation this tells Me they don't have someone working there with that background or they would stop doing it. Lol. But! I don't dislike the ship design. It certainly doesn't feel like a Crusader design though. It feels like someone whom plays 8-bit games would approve as a test bed idea for onboarding newbies. More a "ok here is your design idea, prove to me you can make a ship! But take these complaints and design language into account, go!" Type of thinking. Not someone whom has been designing ships for years or for a particular manufacturer sort of thinking.
It is better looking than a lot of ships lts third place behind avenger and 100i its not pretty but inside is bast starter in game... im glad they made gun size 4 but if it wants to be like ion it needs size 5 why cant they add more missiles under wing or be unique and over top missile racks im not a fan of missiles 900 years in future but 2 on a ship is pointless i like how this ship is an easy 12 scu cargo hauler
Its not cocky to think your design is better. Many modelers do a better job than CIG with their redesigns. Redeemer is an example of something the community created and CIG screwed it up. II do like your version better, but in general this design is terrible. Spend your money as you like, but do not buy this for any sort of combat. The offset is dumb and there is a very good chance they will go back to the S3 gun over the 4. They only upgraded it after initial feedback slammed it for having no firepower and they have to sell it in a week. Get it because you like the style or want a shuttle/cargo starter.
To each his own man, I love the MSR asymmetry "can" look good if it's done well. I think they should've launched this with the black oblivion paint, they would've sold 20x more, it looks really good with that paint. Take a look online
This is not No Man's Sky Armchair designer... THIS IS STAR CITIZEN! And your design looks nothing like Crusader. Which completely misses the point. Put in an application to HELLO Games. But leave our ships alone dude. 🙄
This ship doesn't even remotely follow Crusaders design. It's too boxy with too many sharp lines compared to other crusader ships. The cockpit being just a long rectangle makes it worse. No man sky or star citizen the remade atleast made it similar to the Ares line with C1 Spirits wings. Hon estly this ship is so ugly all it has is nice interior and it's overall color scheme being that clean white and black. Too many problems that led to am outrage of the community. If cig wants to sell garbage then that's on them.
@@icytail5302 Too me it's just a shame that they didn't knock this one out the park, it would've sold so well, I mean a crusader starter sounds like it should be one of the sickest looking ships out there, but then this design came out and it just divided everyone.
@icytail5302 The Wells Temporal Science Vessel from Star Trek Voyager looks nothing like a typical Intrepid Class, Constitution Class, Galaxy Class, or any Federation Class Starship. But it's still Starfleet. Why? Because of design queues. The Crusader Intrepid is in the same design boat. Just because the Wells Class doesn't have a saucer section doesn't mean it isn't Starfleet. And just because it doesn't look like it's a direct ascendant of the Ares Star Fighter doesn't mean The Intrepid isn't Crusader.
Every fan remake I've seen of the Intrepid has been better than what we are actually getting. Full stop.
This is honestly SUCH an improvement its crazy how even if you just get rid of the weird gap between the cockpit and gun it looks so much better
wow, i was thinking the wings where to thicc and bulky, but just sloping them down also makes them look a lot more sleek.. nice design!

I think I would put panels over the top of the engines to give it more consistency but other than that I think I agree with your changes.

If you don’t like it go create your own space game
Hey man, like I said in the video there's a lot to like about the ship, and many people love it just the way it is. It's just a bit of fun.
@ ment no disrespect from my comment. Just some fun for me. I like to criticize criticism.
@@smashingveto7778 All good man o7😁
You should send this to CIG. Much better design!
Thanks man🙏🏻🙏🏻
It is better looking than a lot of ships lts third place behind avenger and 100i its not pretty but inside is bast starter in game... im glad they made gun size 4 but if it wants to be like ion it needs size 5 why cant they add more missiles under wing or be unique and over top missile racks im not a fan of missiles 900 years in future but 2 on a ship is pointless i like how this ship is an easy 12 scu cargo hauler
Your design is a massive improvement. The Intrepid as released is a huge disappointment
I just hate the asymmetry.
To each his own man, I love the MSR asymmetry "can" look good if it's done well. I think they should've launched this with the black oblivion paint, they would've sold 20x more, it looks really good with that paint. Take a look online
200 % better bud
Thanks man ! Appreciate the kind words
i still preferer the original
I think it's important to have ugly ships. Just like ugly cars exist. It grounds the world and makes it more real and relatable.
You have a point, but I think that's why the drake starter exists lol!
The asymmetry makes me dislike the original. It doesn't follow most Crusader designs
That shit is uglier. The cockpit just needs to be shorter or wider and and add some details so it doesn't look so unfinished.
There's one one problem with it, it's too ugly.
Still really ugly.
Get rid of the asymmetry and then it might look better.
Horrible looking ship. Takes up too much room in my Polaris. I will just use t for an upgrade later on for something better.
This is not No Man's Sky Armchair designer... THIS IS STAR CITIZEN!
And your design looks nothing like Crusader. Which completely misses the point. Put in an application to HELLO Games. But leave our ships alone dude. 🙄
Can’t please everyone I guess, thanks for the comment though
